4 ADVANCED CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS ADVANCED CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Jan 4-Jan :00-5:00 Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600 m swim. Course # 6684 Fee: $ Junior Lifeguard Club Pre-requisite: Bronze Medallion Bring card first day Sept. September 15 - Nov. 3, 2016 Thursdays 3:45-4:45 pm The Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) offers serious fun for kids 8 years and up who can swim at least 25m and tread water for 2 minutes. The Jr. Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water but who want more than "lessons Course # 6696 Fee: $64.00/youth Pre-requisite: age 8 and can swim 25 m of the pool and tread water for 2 minutes. Red Cross Babysitter s Course Friday 3:30-6:00 pm, Saturday 9:00-5:00 Dates: November 18 & Basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth years old. Participants learn how to provide care to younger children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Course also offers youth the training to promote themselves as a babysitter to prospective parents. Course # 6520 Fee: $45.00 person Bring Lunch and Snacks Bring a doll if you have one Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Nov 10, Nov 12, & Nov :00-5:00 Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500 m timed swim. Course # 6518 Fee: $136.00/person Pre-requisite: aged 13 or 12 with Bronze Star Red Cross WSI Skills Assessment Oct 24 stroke practice 3:30-5:50 Nov 10: 1:00-4:30 pm full assessment This is the pre-requisite for the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course. This assessment ensures you have level 10 swim stroke abilities and water safety knowledge. This assessment must be done prior to taking the WSI full course. It is recommended to be done before you do your co-teach hours. You will also receive your WSI manuals and online access code for the online course. 5 ADULT PROGRAMMING Pound n Plunge September 19-Nov Mondays 4:30-5:30 pm Join this fitness class using weighted drum sticks on a yoga mat that will get your body sweating up a storm for 30 minutes. It will be followed by a 15 minute targeted aquatic isolation workout and cooldown. Bring: a yoga mat, your swimsuit & towel. There is a limit of 8 per class so sign up early! Course # 6685 Fee: $75.00 Drop in Rate: $10.00/ class Red Cross Adult/Teen Basics September 13-Nov Tuesdays 8:45 pm-9:30 pm This class is planned around the goals of the participants. This is a beginner class for those of you who are uncomfortable in the deep water and want to learn basic front and back swims, treading and there are a variety of water safety skills you can choose from if you desire. Course # 6628 Fee: $55.20 Red Cross Standard First Aid/CPR C September 20 & Tuesday & Wednesday 9:00-5:00 Comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Course # 6571 Fee: $130.00/person Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Recert Friday November Time: 8:00 am-12:00 For those Water Safety Instructors needing their mandatory recertification course every two years. There are both wet and dry components. Bring: Suit, Whistle, towel and current WSI certification card Course # 6630 Fee: $70.00/person ADULT PROGRAMMING Lifesaving Society NL Recert Friday November Time: 12:30 pm-4:30 pm HIGH FIVE PHCD Friday Jan :00 am-6:00 pm For those of you who need to recertify their Lifesaving National Lifeguard Award that is due every two years. Course # 6519 Fee: $70.00/person Society This is Canada s only quality assurance Program for Sport and Recreation Leaders that are working with youth aged 6-12 years old. You will learn about the scientifically validated five principles and three design guidelines that should to be incorporated into youth programs to ensure a quality experience. Course # 6633 Fee: $75.00/youth Pre-requisite: aged 15 +

Aquatic games like inner tube water polo, underwater Hockey and other fun games. Followed by a pizza party and other fun games. Course # 6694 Fee: $25.00/youth Tot Time Days: Monday & Wednesdays 9:30 am-12:00 September 12-September For children between the ages of three and seven who are toilet trained. Come join us for games, crafts and swimming. We ask that they be sent with a peanut free snack and swimsuit under their clothing. Course # 6631, 6632, 6688,6690,6689,6691 NEW FEE: $15.00/child Pre-requisite: aged 3-6 and potty trained Prerequisite: aged 9-13 and can swim in the deep end. Be able to swim 1 length of the pool. Christmas Drop n Shop for Youth Date: Saturday December Time: 9:00 am-4:00 pm Lots of wintery Christmas crafts and games followed by swimming. Children need to dress for the weather and bring their own peanut free lunch and snacks. Christmas Drop n Shop for Tots Date: Friday December Time: 9:00 am-12:00 pm Christmas crafts and games followed by swimming. Please send kids with their suits under their clothes. They must stay within arms reach of the child. POOL PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS Aquafit: All our classes are drop in, there is no registration necessary. Shallow Aquafit: In waist to chest deep water you will be lead through a variety of exercises that will work on your cardiovascular fitness as well as muscular strength and endurance for 45 minutes. Deep Water Aquafit: Participants must be comfortable in deep water to participate. With the use of an aquatic belt our instructors will lead you through a great 45 minute workout. : Our 5 lanes are designated as follows: two lanes for faster swimmers, 2 lanes for medium swimmers and 1 lane set up as a leisure lane for those patrons wanting to use the Aqua belts and do water walking and other types of aquatic exercises. The leisure lane is also a good spot for those who are just learning how to swim, and need to practice. Equipment that is available for lane swim includes: flutter boards, flippers/ fins, aqua belts, and pull buoys. Lane & Tot : During this time we have the 5 lanes set up for lane swimmers while the tot pool, hot tub and water slide are open for families to come swim with their toddlers and babies. : The main pool, tot pool, hot tub, and water slide are open to the general public. Kids under the age of nine must be accompanied by a responsible adult in the water with them. The ratio of adults to children under 9 is 1:3. Family : All children must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. Lessons: The Olds Aquatic Centre runs Red Cross Pre-School and Red Cross Kids swimming lessons. If your child has never been in swim lessons before or took a different program we can screen your child during a public swim to see what level would be best for them in which to register. H20 to Go: Drop- in rates apply to this program. One of our certified instructors will post a swim workout that will work on all strokes. Program will work on endurance, speed, timing, breathing and other swim techniques. This is not for beginner swimmers. College : This swim is for Olds College Students only.
