21 Sculpture workshop The course deals with the sculpture and the essential problem of space as penetrating and completing forms and phenomena. Students analyze space relations, units and tensions; they search for the right material shape for them and study the right techniques to express them. In the centre of the space is the Man everything is subordinated to. Outer surrounding which has been perfected since the beginning of the world both in micro and macro scales is the reflection of human spiritual and physical conditions, his possibilities and limits, desires and sacrifices. Sculpture is a far reflection of the man. Just as he does, it exists in three dimensions, has its scale, weight and material and is influenced by the power of gravitation and; as the Man is, it is influenced by time-effect. If we understand the nature of the sculpture, we can also understand the complicated relations between the Man and his surrounding. Sculpture is the materialized form of something, which itself does not possess any form but only meaning. When discovering the huge variety of sculpture means you reach the value of meanings. Then you express those meanings using various types of techniques and sculpture materials such as metal, stone, clay, gypsum, plastic as well as their combinations. Each student makes one sculpture during a term, which becomes an element of the collection exposed in a local art gallery. The Man is the one and only reason for whom the space is converted through architecture, design, communication. Careful observation of a human body as a perfect and harmonic form created by Nature. Expression of physical and psychological similarities (mimesis and emotions). Attributes of the choice of techniques, means and methods. Use of the creative activities of the human mind (analyses, synthesis, reduction, expression, deformation, abstraction). BASIC S: Drawing. The history of art. Form modeling. Photography. 21
