1 SENIOR RECOGNITION AD PACKET 2016 PROWLER YEARBOOK Senior year and graduation is a big deal to both the student and to you as a parent. We are offering special senior recognition ads in the 2016 yearbook. The senior ads are offered to the families, friends and teams/organizations of the soon to be graduating seniors. These ads will give parents, grandparents and even teams the opportunity to tell their graduate(s) congratulations and to show how proud of them you are in a special way. This package explains the available sizes of ads, prices, design sample and submission guidelines. Please read carefully. The deadline for submitting senior recognition ads November 2. The yearbook will be distributed in the spring before the seniors graduate, so you will have the opportunity to show your pride and love before your child takes that huge step to the next phase of their life. Please direct any questions to the yearbook adviser, Margie Raper, at raperm@friscoisd.org. is the fastest way to receive a response. The yearbook is a learning lab for students. Students gain real world skills by working with customers, designing the ads and completing a product that all are happy with. Thank you for this opportunity to help Wakeland students and their learning experience. Yearbook staff members will you design proofs upon completion of the ad. Proofs will come 4-6 weeks after the order is complete. Please understand the yearbook is a production of the Wakeland Student Publications. It is a learning lab that is student-led, student-driven. Please let the receptionist know you are dropping off a senior advertisement. In-person drop offs will be accepted from 2:30-4:15 daily and 12:15-2:30 on A days.

2 TWO WAYS TO PURCHASE A SENIOR RECOGNITION AD 1. JOSTENS online. or jostensyearbooks.com (look for Wakeland HS, Senior Recognition Ads). Order and pay at and select Create Parent Ad. You may only purchase online with a credit card. Jostens Customer Service will allow you chunk your ad order into three payments upon direct request to customer service. Message, photos and order form must still be submitted to Wakeland High School for ad creation by November Return completed this ad packet with order form, photos, and message by November 2. Within five business days, a MISC FEE line item will be added to your student s MyPaymentsPlus account. Pay using MyPaymentsPlus. MPP will allow you to break up the total cost of the senior ad into up to five payments. You have to indicate on the order form if you would like MPP to do payments. AD SUBMISSION GUIDELINES PLEASE READ! Ad message, photos, order form and payment must be turned in all together and by November 2 deadline. Please DO NOT turn in a pre-designed, completed ad. This is a learning lab for students. Part of their learning experience is working with a customer and learning design concepts. Custom fonts/typefaces are not allowed. But all recognition ads are custom designs based on the photos and message submitted.!!! No photos from websites like Facebook or Twitter.!!! Sites like these compress photos so the photo size is only 72 dpi which is not high enough quality for printing. We prefer to receive original digital picture files. Only.jpg or.tif files can be used and the resolution must be at least 300 dpi. (Some portrait photographers will send these directly to us if you let them know why.) Ideally we would NOT like photos to be ed. ing photos does compress and compromise quality. Please send in photos on a USB drive or file share the photos with us by using a site like DROPBOX.com to wakelandyearbook@friscoisd.org with the SENIOR S NAME as the FOLDER NAME. If files have to be ed to wakelandyearbook@friscoisd.org with the SENIOR S NAME IN THE SUBJECT LINE. Select vertical [tall] photos for vertical spaces and horizontal [wide] photos for horizontal spaces. The yearbook staff will crop or scale to fit the designated space. If you would like us to consider your cropping suggestions, please write those on the order form. Writing lightly in pencil, put the student s name on the back of each photo and indicate where you want the photo in your design (if more than one photo is included). Please no nudity in photos (regardless of age in the photo) We really would not like to accept your hard copy, original images. The school, yearbook staff and the yearbook company do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged photos. To help insure this, please make an appointment to bring in your hard copy photos, we will scan them in front of you, and hand them right back to you. Hard copy photos must be in color and printed on photo quality paper. Computer/inkjet printouts of photos cannot be used. Do not cut, glue, tape or staple original photos.

Indicate payment source for ad MyPaymentsPlus or Jostensyearbooks.com (Please note you must request a MPP option and the charge will show up on your account 5 business days after ordering.) 5. Return complete order by November 2 for original pricing to yearbook office. Size of ad with approximate measurements and cost: (check one) 1/9 page (3 x 2.5 ) to 2 photos, 2 to 3 lines of text + valediction 1/4 page (4 6/8 x 4 ) $ to 3 photos, 2 to 4 lines of text + valediction 1/2 page (4 6/8 x 8 ) $ to 5 photos, 2 to 6 lines of text + valediction Full page (9 7/8 x 8 ) $ to 8 photos, 2 to 10 lines of text + valediction Free custom options: Cut-out photo (not available in 1/9 & 1/4 page ad, not available with background photo option) Please mark photo as cut-out photo. Choose a clean, high resolution portrait to cut-out the subject for an extra dimension. Background photo (not available in 1/9 page ad, not available with cut-out photo option) Please mark photo as background photo. Choose a clean, high resolution portrait to have as a background to the ad. Please consider your message on your ad and how visible the text will be on the background. Additional fees/penalty fees: Late ad orders after November 2 deadline $25.00 (late orders will only be accepted till November 10) Ads not submitted complete with all photos, message and payment will be considered late. Additional photos over the ad space limit - $10.00 per photo Changing photos after the deadline - $5.00 per photo *All penalty fees are due by ad proofing. Payment for an ad does not constitute you purchasing a yearbook. Purchasing a yearbook is done separately. You may also purchase a senior parent recognition ad online with a credit card at or use MyPayments Plus. Wording and photos must still be submitted to Wakeland High School. 4 LLEN WAKELAND Message from parents goes here. This is 12 point font. Consider readiability. 2 to 10 lines of text in 12 point font written in Microsoft Word or Google Doc about three inches wide. Strongly encourage the message be from the heart. We strongly encourage you to type exactly as you want it to appear. Avoid symbols like &. We will put the word and. We also avoid hyphenation in the paragraph. We will correct grammar and spell check. Names are always difficult to spell check. If you use words or phrases that are inside jokes, that s fine. We might flag it for a follow-up question, but it is okay. Always remember less is more with senior ad. The best ads usually have the best photo choice. Be picky with photo selection. Don t forget the valediction. Love Mom & Dad Full Page Ad w/full background photo example Helpful tips-a background photo will limit the number of photos you can put on a full page. Keep in mind the cleanness of a background in the photo. Will it allow text to be put on top of it AND be easy to read? Is the background at least the physical size of a full page or is the digitial file full resolution, at least 8x dpi, to be placed without having to be enlarged to avoid pixelation?

To help readiability of the message, we will put the parent message on a color background due to the difficultly of reading text over a busy background. Keep in mind the cleanness of a background in the photo. Will it allow text to be put on top of it AND be easy to read? Here we added a color box behind the text to make it work, but that did limit the number of photos and the amount of text.

6 Suzie Wakeland Message from parents goes here. This is a 12 point font. A full page senior ad gives you the option to have 1 to 8 images on the full page ad. Please keep in mind the number of photos will cause the photo sizes to decrease with the number of photos you want to place. To have a dominant photo and secondary smaller photos, you will not be able to have the maximum of ten images. One thing that helps is look at your ad like the size of a plain piece of paper. The more photos, the smaller the images. Also we will design and layout at the senior ad based on the photo shapes you give us. Vertical photos will go in vertical spaces. Horizontal photos will go in horizontal spaces. We will not crop images unless instructed to do so. Love, Mom and Dad Full Page Ad w/collage example Helpful tips- Every ad submitted is a custom ad. We take the number of photos and the message provided and design your ad to what looks best. We will send you a proof upon completion. Please consider the more photos on a layout, the smaller the photos will be. Also we will be loyal to the shape of the photos. Vertical photos will go in vertical spaces and horizontal photos will go in horizontal spaces. We will not crop images unless you instruct us to do so.

If you want more text we can make the font size smaller or the photos smaller. Clean background portraits with high-resolution work and look best for the cut-out option.
