The Chief Judge of the Provincial Court is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and is responsible for assigning Judges and Judicial Justices, and designating court facilities for the hearing of cases within the jurisdiction of the court and for providing administrative direction to Judges, Judicial Justices, and Judiciary staff. The Office of the Chief Judge (OCJ) is the administrative headquarters for the Provincial Judiciary, and is based in downtown Vancouver. PURPOSE OF POSITION The Systems Support Coordinator/LAN Administrator, working in a team environment, is accountable to the Manager IT Services and Strategic Planning for the provision of second and third level end user support for the Provincial Court Judges, Judicial Justices, and judicial staff throughout the province. As the senior technical member of the systems team this position provides technical leadership and guidance to the other members of the systems support team. The position is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of the Provincial Judiciary Windows server infrastructure and end point client devices (computers, printers, peripherals). SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES / DELIVERABLES Provides technical, software, and hardware support for the Provincial Court Judiciary (PCJ): Providing second and third level support to resolve hardware, software, and systems issues, or escalate as required; Resolving hardware issues in PCs, notebook computers, Smartphones, switches, printers, and peripheral devices; Resolving systems issues with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office suite, , Internet Explorer, OCJ internal programs (Rota, Timebank and TSS), and ministry applications (JUSTIN, CAS, iexpense, ESS, etc.); Creating, testing, and maintaining current OCJ hardware images; staging computers; Upgrading software to current supported versions; Responding to hardware and software failures and taking the necessary actions to get users operating normally; Responding to, assisting, advising, and resolving users hardware and software queries; Providing instruction and assistance to users requiring basic setup and maintenance; Maintaining OCJ Helpdesk application, and tracking problem calls to ensure timely resolution and follow-up with users and ensure calls are satisfactorily completed and/or escalated; Communicating with government IT groups, systems contractors, software/hardware vendors on technical matters to resolve issues; and Responds to helpdesk calls and s, providing and third level support for members of the judiciary. 2 Provides systems support functions for the PCJ client/server infrastructure by; Monitoring performance of servers, storage and network; Design, develop, enhance and maintain judiciary Active Directory architecture; Design, develop, enhance and maintain judiciary server infrastructure, including (Exchange), firewalls, file & print servers, SQL server, and virtual server environment; Maintain and support iscsi SAN infrastructure; Develop and maintain a secure network infrastructure; Develop and maintain the judiciary wireless infrastructure (Wifi, Blackberry s, cell phones); and Participate in the design, develop, enhance and maintain judiciary alternate recovery site. Recommends the acquisition and disposal of hardware and software for the judiciary by; Analyzing user requirements for hardware (ex. PC s, peripherals, printers, MFDs) and software (Office Suites, custom applications); Determining the appropriate allocation of new and existing hardware; Testing and analyzing hardware and software to determine compatibility with business requirements; Recommending the type and quantity of hardware and software within budget allocations; Analyzing the lifespan of current systems, identifying obsolete and aging systems for disposal, and recommending replacement options; and Ensuring all judicial data is removed from disposed hardware in accordance with accepted practices and policies. Ensures judicial data is protected by; Developing and enforcing data security; and Developing policies in accordance with ISO and ISO 27001/ Participates in a team environment by; Attending and actively contributing to team meetings and discussions; and Keeping team members informed of outstanding issues. Performs additional duties as required, such as; Performs other related duties as required. Skills and Knowledge Advanced knowledge of current hardware technologies, including reassembly, imaging and configuring of computers, and printers; hardware troubleshooting techniques; Advanced knowledge of server technologies and best practices; Advanced knowledge of virtual server environments (Hyper-V); Advanced knowledge of networking technologies and best practices; Preferred knowledge of web technologies (IIS 6 and 7, Microsoft SharePoint Server); Preferred knowledge of database programming languages (MS SQL and Reporting Services); Certifications in A+, Network+, CCNA, and MCSE are preferred; Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Group Polices, Scripting, Powershell, Remote Access technologies (VPN and Remote Desktop Services), Windows 2003/2008 Server, BES, Symantec Backup Exec, and Sophos Antivirus software; Preferred demonstrated knowledge in the following Microsoft technologies: SCCM, SCOM, VMM, Lync 2010, WSUS, Exchange 2010, Sharepoint 2010, TMG; Exceptional oral communications skills, able to communicate effectively and empathetically with Judge and other users in person and by telephone; Strong writing skills, able to change style and depth depending on audience; and Proficient in the configuration and use of desktop O/S (Windows Vista/7/8) and Office suites (Office 2007/2010); Abilities Able to analyze, document, and resolve hardware, software and systems problems; Able to organize and prioritize work, work independently, make good judgment calls; maintain confidentiality, work within limits and meet deadlines; and Able to work in a team environment.
