Questions to Rule Quiz Tick the correct answer. You can seek the help of the "Rules of Golf 2016" and other Rule Books. Enjoy the rule quiz. 1 The sun is shining, and you and your two friends, Anne and Martin is ready for a great day on the golf course. How many clubs may you max. carry in your bag? You and your two friends are now ready to go to the 1st hole. Who would really tee out first? It should Martin as he has the lowest handicap It should be you, because you won the draw you made at the driving range Ladies first - so Anne tee out first 3 It's your turn to tee out. You choose your driver and go into the tee box on the first hole. But from where may you tee up your ball? You may tee up from all the area that is cut. You may tee up max. 2 club lengths behind the markers on the tee box You may tee up max. 4 club lengths behind the markers on the tee box 4 You hit a perfect drive and the ball lands in the middle of the fairway 200 yards out. You approach the ball, and can see that it lies in a puddle. What can you do? You must play the ball where it lies and hope for a super shot, so you can hit the green You can choose to drop the ball out of the puddle without penalty You have to go back to the tee and hit a new ball
5 You hit the ball onto the green. You put, even if the flag is not removed from the hole. Your putt is going in, but does that count? Yes, it counts, but it costs two strokes - but the hole is finished Yes, that counts. No penalty stroke and just move on to the next hole No, it does not count, you have to remove the flag, replace the ball and putt again. Remember to add two penalty strokes to your score. 6 On the next hole you are unlucky to land in the fairway bunker. The lie og the ball is good, so you choose a 7-iron. You take your stance and accidentally touch the bottom of the bunker with your iron. Is this allowed? No, you may not ground your club. It costs you two strokes Yes, your may ground your club in the bunker Yes, you may ground, but only in your practice swing 7 The ball is in the middle of the fairway, but it is almost covered with leaves. What do you do now? You gently lifts away the leaves, so the ball does not move, because you may remove loose leaves and branches without penalty As you may not remove loose leaves and branches, you have to play the ball as it lies You can choose to drop the ball two club lengths backwards without penalty 8 You have hit your ball into the woods. You all search for it, but it is nowhere to be found. Is it now lost? If 5 minutes have elapsed the ball is lost You have been looking for it for two minutes, and you want to go on, and tell your friends that you give up the ball and declares the lost The ball will be lost when you have finished playing the hole 9 Your little walk in the woods is forgotten and you are ready to tee out on the next hole. Your drive lands unfortunately in the very high rough, and you and your teammates are not quite sure where it landed. You choose to play a provisional ball, which lands nicely on the fairway. You find your first ball but it lies in a bad position. What do you do now? You continue play with the provisional ball as the first ball lies in a bad position You must play the first ball as it lies. You can declare the first ball unplayable.
10 The ball landed on a small gravel road that borders the 15th hole. What are your options? Paved roads and gravel paths are obstacles that allows you to drop the ball two club-lengths from the nearest point that is not on the obstruction, and not closer to the hole You may play the ball as it lies When the ball lands on roads and paths, it also means that the ball is "out of bounds" 11 Your shot from the fairway landed on the green of the hole parallel to the hole you are playing. What do you do now? Play the ball as it lies on the putting green Dropping a ball with one penalty stroke off the putting green Dropping a ball without penalty off the putting green 12 On the 16th hole 150 yards from the tee there is a lake on the left side of the hole marked with yellow stakes. You hit your drive and you can see that the ball is heading towards the lake. However, because of bushes and tall grass outside the stakes you cannot see if the is in the hazard. What do you do now? You choose to hit a provisional ball, which you can play if you cannot find the original ball You go to the lake, where you hope to find your ball. If you do not find your ball, you have to estimate a crossing point and drop a ball on the line that goes from the hole through the crossing point and as far back as you want. When you come to the hazard you can see your ball in the water. You drop a ball with a penaltystroke within two club-lengths to the side not nearer the hole next to the place where the ball is. 13 From the tee you can see an area marked with blue stakes. You are in doubt about what the stakes really means. What should you do if the ball is in the area? You must drop out of the area with one penaltystroke You must drop out of the area without penalty You may play the ball as it lies. 14 You take your stance close to the ball and swing your club, but accidentally hit the ball that rolls 10 meters to the one side. What now? It counts as a stroke, and you have to continue playing from the new position. As you had no intention to hit the ball, it must be replaced without penalty The ball must be replaced with a penalty stroke
15 You have hit the ball from the tee box on the 17th hole into a water hazard marked with red stakes. You can see it on the bottom of the water hazard, but cannot play it. Now what? You can drop a ball without penalty outside the water hazard You may under penalty of one drop a ball on the line from the flag through the crossing point for the water hazard and as far back as you want You can with a penalty of two strokes drop a ball within two club-lengths from the crossing point to the water hazard 16 You have hit the ball into the rough. You go out in the high grass to look for it and find it because you accidentally kick it out from the place where it lay hidden under the leaves. The ball rolled down a hollow. You must play the ball from the new position with one penalty stroke because you moved the ball As the ball now lies in a bad lie there is no penalty, but the ball must be replaced The ball must be replaced with one penalty stroke 17 18th hole is a long par 5 where you have to use the driver. There is a clear view of the first 300 meters, and there are white stakes on the right side. But what do these white stakes indicate? White stakes means "out of bounds" and therefore your ball is lost if it lands outside the white stakes. You must therefore set a new ball in play from the spot where you hit you stroke. White stakes means that there may be opportunities for small ponds, so be aware when you are looking for the ball White stakes means "out of bounds", however you are free to drop a ball where the original ball went out of bounds without a penalty stroke 18 Martin is getting ready for his second shot from the fairway when you suddenly hear someone yell "Fore". How do you react? I turn around to see who cries and hope that I can spot the errant ball You sit down squatting and holding your arms over your head I play on, because I feel that the cry was not meant for you
19 You realize that the team behind you is waiting for you. What do you do? We will not let them through. They can wait a bit. We pay the same fee as them We choose to let them through as we can see that they play faster than us Since we are on the last hole, we play on and finish the round 20 When you stand on the 18th tee, you can hear thunderstorm. Anne wants to stop play and go towards the clubhouse. Martin is most willing to finish the hole. What do you do in this situation All must agree to stop It is up to Anne if she wants to play the last hole You play the last hole, because there is only one hole left
