2 Today s architecture is unimaginable without glass as building material. Modern spacious buildings, flooded with natural light require specially designed functional glass materials. Laminated safety glass can combine in a single sheet of glass which is indistinguishable from normal glass all the many different design requirements of a modern window such as control of light and solar gain, energy conservation whilst ensuring the safety of building users and providing security for the building and the building occupiers against a wide variety of threats.

3 Laminating Process Depending on the properties required from the glass at least two sheets of glass are permanently bonded together using an extremely tough transparent interlayer of Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB). Each sheet of glass is carefully washed before being assembled together with the PVB in a environmentally controlled clean room. After assambly the glasses are permanently bonded together under heat and pressure in an autoclave. This assembly method allows many different types and thicknesses of glass and different thicknesses and colours of interlayer to be combined to provide a single glass with very specific properties for a host of different design applications. 5 Physical Attack Glass Glass for increased security against housebreaking and burglary. Testing of the resistance against break by mean of a cutting striking tool: With an automatic hammer and axe, weighing 2 kg, a hole 400 mm by 400 mm is made in a glass panel 900 mm by 1100 mm. The number of strikes required to make the hole are counted. For class P6B more than 30 strikes need to be made, for class P more than 51 strikes and for class P8B more than 71 strikes.
