2 Please read the instruction manual and these supplementary instructions carefully before installation In all cases the installation should comply with the recommendations given in BSI Standards Publication BS8511:2010 Code of practice for the installation of solid fuel heating and cooking appliances in small craft. Health and Safety Precautions Care must be taken when installing the stove such that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act are met. Handling Adequate facilities must be available for loading, unloading and site handling. Stove weight including packaging = 70Kg. The appliance, connecting flue pipe and chimney should be installed by a competent person. Ventilation The ventilation requirement for the craft and the fitting of ventilators should follow the guide lines give in BS 8511: 2010 Annex A The effective area of fixed ventilation V, in square millimetres, for accommodation spaces containing combustion appliances should be calculated from the following equation: V = 2200U + 650P + 550H + 440F where: U is the input rating of all unflued appliances, in kilowatts P is the number of persons for which the accommodation space is designed H is the nominal output rating of open-flued solid fuel appliances, in kilowatts F is the input rating for all other open-flued combustion appliances, in kilowatts NOTE Room-sealed appliances are excluded from this calculation. Siting the appliance The stove should not be positioned where it may cause an obstruction or impede escape routes. The stoves location should not create a fire hazard or cause damage to surrounding materials. The stove should be separated from combustible materials in the surrounding structure by the minimum clearances given in table 1 or by adopting the methodology given in BS 8511:2010 section 7. Any combustible material in the vicinity of the stove, whether exposed or covered, e.g. by tiles, should be protected to ensure that its surface temperature of the combustible material does not exceed 65 C above ambient temperature. In situations where the stove is to be fitted adjacent to a non-combustible structure, there should be a minimum clearance of 25mm between the stove and the structure. page 2

The 12mm thickness can be a single sheet or may be constructed from non-combustible layers. Example, 6mm thick cement board finished with 6mm thick ceramic tiles. The hearth should extend 150mm to the sides and the rear of the stove unless it is adjacent to a suitable surrounding structure. The projection of hearth in front of the stove should be at less 225mm, this distance may be reduced by surrounding the hearth with a non-combustible upstand. page 3

4 Securing the stove The stove must be adequately fixed to the hearth or the craft structure to prevent movement. Hearth fixing brackets are supplied with the Morsø chimney system. Fixings to secure the bracket to the hearth are not provided as hearth material will vary. Hearth fixing brackets Fit the hearth fixing bracket to the back face of the rear legs Placement of smoke hood In some cases Morsø stoves come readyequipped from the factory with a smoke hood, as shown in the diagram below. NOTE: The smoke hood must not be fitted if the chimney is less than 4.5M. The chimney system used on a typical boat installation is likely to have an effective height of 2 2.5m and the smoke hood must not be fitted. Ensure that the firebricks, riddling grate assembly and baffle plate are positioned correctly. Alternatively the chimney system should meet the requirements of BS 8511:2010 section 8. Height The connecting flue pipe and or chimney should not be less than 2M from the appliance outlet to the chimney terminal outlet. The chimney terminal should be minimum 600mm above the deck when the craft is moored. The termination may be shorter when the craft in underway but may not be less than 150mm above the deck. page 4

Insert the deck plate, ensuring it is the correct way up. Male connection up - female connection down. page 5

6 Locating the deck plate cont... Apply water tight sealant around the location holes and insert fixing bolts. Once the bolts are tightened and the deck plate is secure seal around the edge of the deck plate and around the chimney pipe where it passes through the plate. The Chimney Apply the self adhesive gasket provided around the outside face of the inner chimney pipe. The gasket should only be used on the end of the chimney that connects to the stove collar. The gasket will form the seal between the chimney and the stove; no other fixing is required. However the chimney and collar can be drilled and fixed if preferred. Connect the two 1M lengths of chimney system together. The chimney connection is telescopic and the internal insulation used in the upper chimney will compress as the sections of pipe are assembled. Locate the stove on the hearth in the approximate position (do not drill the hearth fixings at this stage) Locate the assembled chimney system onto the cast iron flue collar of the stove. Adjust the assembled chimney to the required length and connect on to the deck plate and fix with a clamping band. page 6

7 If required a clamping ring can be fixed around the telescopic joint, however there is likely to be a considerable overlap at the point and therefore the joint will be structurally sound. This joint is designed to move and will overcome any issues relating to expansion and contraction associated with a stove installations and the natural movement of the craft. Note: Combustible materials around the chimney such as the cabin headlining must have a minimum clearance of 60mm from the chimney. The connection onto the stove can simply be left or if desired a clamping ring can be used to finish the joint. Finally connect the external chimney pipe and terminal; use locking bands as required. Note: For travelling configuration remove the external chimney and attach the terminal direct onto the deck plate. page 7

8 Commissioning General An appliance/chimney installation should be tested by a competent person before final handover to the user or client to ensure that it is safe, fit for use and capable of providing the expected performance and service, in accordance with the method stated below. The tests and checks given should be carried out before the appliance is lit for the first time. Physical checks The competent person should check that: a) the installation is in accordance with the design, including material specifications, flue length and diameter b) the manufacturer s installation instructions have been followed c) there is no damage to any components d) joints between the appliance and chimney and within the chimney system are secure and in good condition e) the separation of components from combustible materials conforms to manufacturers instructions or BS 8511:2010 f) the appliance and chimney can be fully cleaned, once the installation is complete Smoke evacuation test This test should be carried out to ensure all the smoke is drawn up the flue to atmosphere. It should be ensured that the chimney is complete and any removable section is in the operating position and secured in place according to the user instructions. All doors, windows and closable vents in the cabin should be closed and any extraction fans within the cabin should be switched on. Before commencing the test, the flue should be warmed for at least 10 minutes by a gas blow-lamp or similar placed on the grate. A smoke pellet, with a burn time of approximately 60 seconds or more should be lit and placed on the appliance grate. The main fire door and ash-pan door of the appliance should be closed and the primary and secondary air controls should be fully open. The installation should be checked to determine if smoke is being emitted into the cabin; after 30 seconds, a check should be made to ensure smoke is issuing from the chimney outlet and from no other point outside the cabin. If any smoke is emitted into the cabin from any point on the installation, warm the flue for a further 10 minutes and repeat the test. If any smoke continues to be is emitted into the cabin from any point on the installation the appliance should not be allowed to be lit until the fault has been corrected and the test repeated and passed.
