3 Word From the Organizing Committee More recently, Critical Care Medicine has been growing driven by the quality of its scientific production, by focusing on patient safety and the crescent availability of education and training in this area. In this context, the International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine for Latina America (ISICEM-LA) has become a forum of excellence in education, allowing knowledge interchange between Latin-America institutions and the top Critical Care Medicine research centers. This can be shown by the increasing number of participants (average of 25% per event), the quality of the abstracts accepted and published in Critical Care Magazine (impact factor 4.61) and the quality of the scientific program. Consequently, the responsibilities of the Organizing Committee and the sponsor institutions, Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital and Free University of Brussels, in maintaining the high quality of ISICEM-LA have also increased. In order to achieve this goal, we invited well-known speakers and discussed with them the scientific program. The Scientific Committee, with Brazilian and International members, aimed to bring what are the cut-edge and most innovative issues in Critical Care Medicine as well as to address fundamental questions from daily practice. We also improved the infrastructure and logistics of the event, reserving the best auditoriums in Hotel Transamerica and offering a better commuting system for the participants. Additionally, we establish partnerships with important pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies which will exhibit their latest products and give us a glimpse of the near future. These partnerships allow us to maintain and improve the excellence of ISICEM-LA. Therefore, this year great speakers and researchers in Critical Care Medicine will gather in São Paulo during 4 days at the ISICEM-LA again. This meeting will be complete only with your participation. We are sure this Symposium has grown because you recognized on it an opportunity to learn, teach, exchange ideas and especially to take to your institution concepts with the potential to improve the quality of care you provide. Join us! 7 th International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine for Latin America 3
