This guide is designed for both students that come from an educational system other than the Spanish system as well as for non-spanish students that are not resident in Spain and that would like to enroll for any of thhe Undergraduate, Graduate or Advanced Career and Technical Education Programs taught by Universidad Europea de Madrid or the Undergraduate and Graduate programs of the Universidad Europea de Valencia and Universidad Europea de Canarias. All the above-mentioned students are included under the concept of the International Student. The guide is divided into the following sections and corresponding explanations: 1. UE admission process. 2. The international student in Spain. 3. Other useful information. 4. Annexes. The section UE admission process sets out in simple terms the steps that have to be followed by the student from an educational system other than the Spanish system, from the admission application to their enrollment. This admission process to the university in Spain, as a member state of the EU, differentiates between students from an educational system of another EU Member State (and, as applicable, countries with which Spain has signed reciprocity agreements) and those students that come from an educational system other than the above. 5

In the section The International Student in Spain, the item referring to the Student Card - NIE could apply to all students that are not Spanish nationals, while the item relating to the Visa will only apply to those students that are not nationals or residents of a Member State of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein. In the section Other useful information, you can find information regarding the languages courses offered by UE to its International Students, financial aid for study and grants, the University Dormitories and other areas of interest that International Students may find useful. Lastly, the Annexes include information regarding LEGALIZING DEGREES as well as information and explanations related to the UE admission process. As part of our personalized service provided to all our students, we have set up contact addresses and telephone numbers to help answer any question you might have regarding the content of this guide. 6

Depending on the program you choose (Undergraduate, Graduate or Advanced Career and Technical Education) and its study format (campus-based or online), the UE admission process is set out below. This is generally as follow: MAKE an appointment ADMISSIONS tests fees a. Make an appointment to take the admissions tests (* Not applicable to Graduate programs). b. Submission of the required documentation. c. Admissions tests. d. Academic fees. Enrollment and Welcome. 8 In each section below we set out the differences existing in the process as a result of the choice of program (campus-based format, semi-campus-based or online): Undergraduate, Graduate (Qualifying Master s Degree, Specialized Master s Degree and PhD) and Advanced Career and Technical Education programs or the country of origin of the studies that the International Student has undertaken as a legal requirement for admission (degrees from educational systems of EU countries or countries with an agreement signed by Spain and degrees originating in other countries). In any case, the international student will have to demonstrate its requested legal access requirements in a delay of maximum 45 days since its enrollment date. If the documention is not given in time, its enrolment can be cancelled as he wouldn t respect the university legal access conditions.

Universidad Europea (the one from Madrid to be acurate) was the first Spanish University to establish a special procedure for the Admission Process that evaluates the elements relating to the academic and professional success of each student and identifies their specific training needs. The outcome of their process helps in the preparation of a Personalized Learning Program. To start the Admission Process for Undergraduate and Advanced Career and Technical Education programs, you first have to make an appointment via INTERNET in the section on Admissions and Enrollments at e-appointment. In the event that you are unable to attend the admissions tests on the date and at the time indicated, you must notify the Office of Student Affairs and New Admissions 48 hours in advance by sending an to ads@uem.es so that a new date can be assigned to you for taking the tests. Before attending the appointment, the International Student has to fill out the Admissions Application and submit the required documentation that will vary depending on the legal admission requirement of the candidate (see the following section). In the event the International Student does not come to Spain prior to the start of the program and is not yet in contact with a UE advisor, this situation must be notified to ads@uem.es and a request made to the UE Admissions Offices to assign an advisor that will explain the steps to be taken. If the International Student does not come to Spain prior to the start of the program but has a UE Admissions Advisor assigned to them, the student must notify the advisor of their situation so that the latter can explain the steps to be taken. 9

B1. Undergraduate programs: This section is divided into two parts to distinguish between the following student profiles: I. Pre-university Students being admitted to the first year of an Undergraduate program in Spain. II. University students or Holders of University Degrees. The required documentation for all students (campus-based study format or online via UE s PERSONAL UNIVERSITY ) will be as follows: Admission Application for Pre-university Students being admitted to the first year of an Undergraduate program or Recognitions Application for University students or Holders of University Degrees. This document can be issued by the university of origin (signed by the Rector of the university or by the competent authority) or by the Ministry of Education of the country of origin. 14 Curriculum stamped by the Secretary at the Center of Origin. Certificate of Accreditation* from the University of origin regarding the studies taken / completed, including studies that have been started or taken. Only in the case of University Degree Holders, the International Student must submit a sworn declaration confirming they have not simultaneously presented the documentation to the Ministry of Education to have their degree recognized. In cases in which the Ministry of Education has already started the recognitions process for the university degree of the International Student, the latter will have to accredit the said situation and must fill out the document that certifies the waiver of the process, pending decision by the Ministry of Education.

All documents must be stamped by the Secretary of the Center and be duly certified (educational systems of EU Member States) or legalized (educational systems of countries outside the EU), depending on the educational system of origin of both the student and their degree. (For more detailed information on the legalization process, please see the ANNEX on LEGALIZING DEGREES). The University will evaluate the individual situation of the International Student and will advise them about the possible recognition / validation / adaptation. The corresponding Provisional Recognitions Orientation will have no official validity and will be for information purposes only. The official recognition / validation / adaptation will take place when the student, once admitted, confirms their enrollment at the University and is subject to the accreditation of the Official Certificate, the Academic Programs and the Certificate of Accreditation of both the university and of the degree program studied, as well as fulfillment of the legal requirements as provided for under current legislation which is required in each case (especially where the official transfer of the transcript from the University of origin takes place for those students coming from Spanish universities). Specific admission processes In addition to the general admissions process set out above, there are specific processes at UEM regarding which, if the International Student is interested in them, information can be requested from their UEM Admissions Advisor or by writing to ads@uem.es 15

The specific admission processes are: a.admission to the University for adults over 25 that have no legal admission to the University in Spain. b.admission to the University for adults over 45 that have no legal admission to the University in Spain. c.admission to the University for adults over 40 with work experience that have no legal admission to the University (only for degree programs that permit this type of admission). d.admission to the Bachelor s Degree in Medicine. e.admission to the degree programs taught by the School of Sports Science. B2. Graduate programs: Introduction: The aim of accredited Graduate Program tuition is for the student to obtain a specialization through their academic, professional and research training based on educational programs that lead to the achievement of Master s Degrees. The University and its Graduate Schools offer accredited degrees that are recognized by the European Higher Education Area, in addition to qualifying Master s Degrees to work professionally, specialized Master s Degrees and PhD programs. 16 A qualifying Master s Degree is a degree program with an advanced level of specialization that qualifies its holder to undertake regulated professional activities in Spain with a curriculum that includes the conditions established by the Government for the corresponding professional work.

A specialized Master s Degree is a degree program offering an advanced level of training with specialized or multidisciplinary characteristics, geared towards academic or professional specialization or towards promoting the creation of research tasks. This type of program does not enable the holder to undertake professional activities that are regulated in Spain. Either of these Master s Degree formats provides access to PhD programs in accordance with the European Higher Education Area. In addition to the above-mentioned accredited degree programs, the University and its Graduate Schools offer private degrees. These degree programs include training geared towards the development of skills, abilities, aptitudes, competences and knowledge whether for initial training in a professional environment or for educational or professional improvement, to update knowledge or achieve specialization. This section applies to students or professionals that already hold degrees and that would like to undertake a Graduate program (qualifying or specialized Master s Degree, PhD or private degree program) at UEM. The required documentation for all these programs (campus-based or online study format through UEM s PERSONAL UNIVERSITY oferta-academica/uem-personal) is as follows: Admission application, completed and signed. Up-to-date résumé. Europass Language Passport. Photocopy of your Passport, NIE (Foreigner s ID Number) or National ID Document if the student is an EU national. Certified copy (degrees from an educational system of an EU Member State) or legalized copy (other countries) of your university degree. 3 passport-sized photographs (3x4 cms) Even though these are quite similar, there is a special section entitled specific documentation for Phd programs. To submit this documentation, please see the Annex: where and how to submit documentation Admission Process The admission process can be carried out in person at any of the Universidad Europea Campus locations (Madrid, Valencia, Canarias), via to your designated UEM Admissions Advisor or online at the following web address: oferta-academica/postgrado/admisiones 17

Admission Application This gathers together the personal, academic and professional information on the candidate in a generic format. You can obtain your application form: In person at any of the Universidad Europea Campus locations (Madrid, Valencia, Canarias). By , applying to your designated UEM Admissions Advisor. Online at: Résumé This should contain concise information regarding the academic and professional profile of the candidate. The following link offers a recommended format: es/cvprofesionaluem. Europass Language Passport This type of Passport can be obtained via: aprendizaje-de-idiomas. Certified or legalized photocopy of your university degree If the candidate has chosen an accredited Master s Degree (whether qualifying or specialized), they will need to submit a certified or legalized photocopy of their university degree, depending on the educational system in the country of origin of the degree. 18 In addition, in the case of qualifying Master s Degrees, the candidate will need to accredit their Bachelor s Degree that enables them to be admitted to the graduate program. The UE Admissions Advisor will confirm each specific case.

International Students or professionals with degrees issued by accredited European Union universities should apply for a certified copy of their university degree. It is an essential general requirement that a copy of the university degree is submitted that has been certified by the University of origin of the said degree or by a notary. It is also possible to deliver the original document to the Campus locations at Villaviciosa de Odón, Valencia or Canarias where the certified copy can be validated. Together with this certified copy of the university degree, a *Certificate of Accreditation will be required from the University of origin for the studies that have been completed, as well as accreditation of the degree itself. Depending on the country and language of the degree, a sworn translation of the same may be required. In the event that the degree is not available (for example, because it is in the process of being issued or has been mislaid), a copy of an academic certificate could be submitted that accredits the completion of the studies including all the ECTS Credits corresponding to the university degree program. This copy of the academic certificate is subject to the above-mentioned certification requirements. *Certificate of Accreditation: A document stating that both the university and the degree studied are officially accredited according to the laws of each country and that the studies taken are authorized. This document can be issued by the university of origin (signed by the Rector of the university or by the competent authority) or by the Ministry of Education of the country of origin. If the degree program that facilitates admission to the graduate program is issued under an educational system outside the European Union it will be strictly necessary to legalize the degree (see the annex on legalizing degrees). If not, the academic certificate must accredit that the credits leading to the achievement of the university degree have been passed, a process that will vary depending on the country in which the degree was obtained. Specific documentation for PhD programs (Regarding the legalization process, see the annex on legalizing degrees). In addition to the above mentioned documentation, the candidate that has taken accredited Master s Degree studies or has started their PhD studies at a foreign university or institution must submit the following: Certified copy (EU Member States and countries that have agreements with Spain) or a legalized copy (other countries) of the university degree together with a sworn translation of the same if required. Letter from the University that has issued the Master s Degree in which it states the characteristics of the degree in that country (accreditation) and the level of studies being accredited, as well as how such a degree gives direct access to the PhD in the country concerned. This document has to be signed by the Rector or the General Secretary of the University. In this case, it will be necessary to provide a copy of the curriculum of the Master s Degree taken. 19

In the event that PhD studies have already been started, the candidate must submit a letter from the University of origin, signed by the Rector or the Secretary General that accredits the level of studies achieved that enables the candidate to be admitted to carry out their doctoral dissertation in accordance with the university studies system of the country concerned. In the event of submitted documentation related to studies taken at a foreign university, so that your confirmation of enrollment is valid, candidates must submit their original documentation once they have been admitted. B3. Advanced career and technical education programs. (These programs are offered exclusively on the Villaviciosa de Odón Campus (Madrid) of the Universidad Europea de Madrid and on the Campus of Universidad Europea de Valencia). What is an Advanced Career and Technical Education program? The Advanced Career and Technical Education programs (ACTE) are accredited higher education degrees within the educational system that qualify students to work in a qualified position in a range of different professional fields. These are mainly geared towards all those students that, as holders of High School Diplomas (Recognition of your High School Diploma studies), are looking for an intensive training in a profession with the guarantee a two-year career program offers them when the time comes to enter the job market or simply an alternative route to being admitted to a Bachelor s Degree program with an interesting credit recognition plan. The documentation required to be submitted by those students that would like to undertake any Advanced Career and Technical Education program is as follows: Admissions and enrollment application duly filled out and signed. Two passport-sized photographs (3x4 cms). Two photocopies of your passport, NIE (Foreigner s ID Number) or National ID Document if the student is an EU national. Recognitions orientation. Enhancing the possibility of international study periods. Offering the chance to study courses during the summer trimester either to get a head start on work for the next academic year or to catch up with other courses that have fallen behind. The entire academic offer for BACHELOR S DEGREES fall under this layout for a quarterly structure (except for the Bachelor s Degree in Medicine, the Bachelor s Degree in Dentistry and those degree programs that are being terminated or that are compatible with working hours, if required). The remaining degree programs will follow the semester / annual or modular structure. Confirmation of your enrollment means: Confirming your schedule and group. Choosing your schedule, if more than one is available. Accessing the Virtual Campus using the corresponding passwords. Confirming enrollment The day of the admissions tests, the Office of Student Affairs and New Admissions will provide the candidate with all the documentation and forms needed to confirm their enrollment that same day. If the International Student does not go to the corresponding university campus in advance, this documentation can be sent to them via regular mail at the address indicated. Once the ENROLLMENT has been filled out and the payment receipt obtained corresponding to the Study Place Reservation (+ UE Accreditation Service, as applicable), this documentation has to be submitted in accordance with the Annex: where and how to submit documentation. Enrollment is provisional and is subject to verifying the legal conditions for admission to university students and other currently applicable standards. 27

The Admissions Advisors will advise of the specific characteristics of each program in accordance with that approved by the university under the current Standards for both undergraduate, graduate and advanced career and technical education programs. In the event of any discrepancy, the provisions and conditions of the Standards shall prevail. Amendments to Enrollment Your UE Admissions Advisor will answer any questions you have on this issue. Delayed enrollment The deadline for enrollment is established as up to 6 weeks from the start of the Program. Once this period as expired, the Dean of the School will have to authorize the students enrollment. Tuition The annual amount of the tuition is calculated by multiplying the number of ECTS Credits for which the student is enrolled by the unit cost of ECTS Credits, except for those programs that have fixed prices. The UE Admissions Advisors will advise you regarding the official fees table and will notify any specific characteristics of each program in accordance with that approved by UE under the current Standards for both undergraduate, graduate and advanced career and technical education programs. In the event of any discrepancy, the provisions and conditions of the Standards shall prevail. How is the tuition paid? 28 The academic fees corresponding to the tuition may be paid via the following payment methods: Bank transfer or deposit in account (see the Annex: bank accounts fto make payments to the university) at least 15 days prior to the start of the first course.

This payment method does not release the student from the requirements to submit the duly filled out bank direct debit form. Direct debit. For this option, the International Student must have opened a Current Account in Spain (see the Annex: opening a current account in Spain). Payment methods The payment methods will be the following: Annual Payment. All students that select this payment method will benefit from an early payment discount (See: 3. Other useful information / B. financial aid for study / Early payment discount). In no event shall this discount apply once 30 days have passed from confirmation of enrollment. Monthly payments. Payment of the tuition can be made by spreading the tuition amount over the student s in-session into equal, monthly pro rata installments, where the start of the in-session is the start date of the first course and ends on the final date of the last course. The UE Admissions Advisors will advise you regarding the specific characteristics of each program in accordance with that approved by UE under the current Standards for both undergraduate, graduate and advanced career and technical education programs. In the event of any discrepancy, the provisions and conditions of the Standards shall prevail. Delayed payment until August. Monthly fees until August. Possibility to delay your payments until August. - Enrolled Students of the full 1st course: 11 monthly payments, paying the first monthly fee in October and the last one in August. Medicine undergraduate: 12 monthly payments from September to August. - 2nd year Enrolled Students and forward: 12 monthly payments, paying the first monthly fee in September and the last one in August. The university admission advisers will indicate the needed requirements and included programs in this option. In the event of any discrepancy, the provisions and conditions of the Standards shall prevail. Flexible monthly payment. This is only available to students that are enrolled for a program structured into trimesters or semesters, whose schedule is compatible with working hours or programs offered by UE s Personal University. The amount payable will depend on the amount of tuition for each trimester, semester or module for degree programs that have schedules compatible with working hours. The tuition amount is calculated by multiplying the number of ECTS Credits for which the student is enrolled by the unit cost of ECTS Credits corresponding to each degree program (see specific academic fees table). This payment method is compulsory where the student has enrolled for various trimesters or modules or degree programs with schedules compatible with working hours that are 29

not consecutive. In the event that the candidate s application is refused, or in the event that the course does not take place due to the minimum number of students failing to enroll, such circumstance shall be notified to the student or students involved and all the amounts paid to Universidad Europea de Madrid S.L.U (entity in charge of the Universidad Europea de Madrid and of the Advanced Career and Technical Education of Madrid), Iniciativa Educativa Europea de Canarias S.L.U. (entity in charge of the Universidad Europea de Canarias) and Universidad Europea de Valencia S.L.U. (previously known as Iniciativas Educativas Educa S.L.U., entity in charge of the Universidad Europea de Valencia and of the Centro Adscrito a la Universidad Europea de Madrid)) shall be reimbursed. To be able to select the above-mentioned payment methods, except for the early payment method via bank transfer or deposit in account, it is absolutely essential that the student has an account at a Bank or Caja de Ahorros [Savings Bank] in Spain (see Annex on opening a current account in Spain). If such an account is not available, the International Student must select the early payment method as described above. This will be a condition precedent to Confirming their Enrollment (see Annex: bank accounts for making payments to UE). General conditions for Enrollment and Tuition. The University reserves the right not to teach a degree program or to delay its start if the minimum number of students is not achieved. In addition, it reserves the right to make changes to the location and campus on which it is taught. For courses that do not reach the minimum number of students to form a group, the University may organize the tuition under the tutorial format where the student receives supervised personal academic followup. Such circumstances will be duly notified to the student and the University will be released from any corresponding liability. Some of the new degree programs or those that have been adapted to the European Higher Education Area may still be pending definitive authorization by the academic authorities. In this case, should the University be unable to teach these degree programs due to the lack of final authorization, the University shall be released from all liabilities that may arise from such a circumstance. Notwithstanding, the University will offer the student the possibility of studying any other accredited degree programs that have already been authorized and that form part of the official academic offer for corresponding academic year. In the event the student decides not to study any of the offered programs, the University will reimburse the amounts paid. In the case of Direct Debit payments, the return of a correctly issued invoice will incur a cost indicated by the corresponding financial entity. No payment will be made for travel nor accommodation expenses for any degree program that includes study outside our Madrid, Valencia or Canarias centers under its curriculum, unless such studies form part of the degree program. 30 In the event of any discrepancy between the information provided by a UE Admissions Advisor and the Standards for Undergraduate, Graduate and Advanced Career and Technical Education Programs and these Standards regarding the admission of International Students, the content of the latter shall prevail.
