New PE equipment will be ordered using money raised by the School Football Initiative event that took place in Summer Term School will collect Tesco vouchers and use these to order new PE equipment which will be used by children at EY and KS1. Class Moves programme will be further developed in PPA sessions that are covered by PPA staff. Let s Move programme will be further developed. In the Zone training for lunchtime supervisory assistants. To purchase gym equipment for reception. To repaint playground markings in liaison with comprehensive art staff and comprehensive pupils to increase physical activity at playtimes.

6 Year 5 & 6 residential visit to Borfa House. Staff to participate in 3 Peaks Challenge. Encourage pupils to be more adventurous and try new sports. The school council will be used to identify the interests of different year groups. Mrs S Thomas to work with the school council to develop new activities with the aid of healthy school grant. (Such as Pilates). To utilise the skills of current staff members to offer a wider range of extra curricular options. Approach a number of staff to enquire if they are willing to take control of specific year groups to widen opportunities for pupils to participate in football, rugby, squash and other sports. Where appropriate to use outside agencies to encourage physical health and well being (the forces, sports development officers, the Hideout First aid course, Heart start). To introduce 10, 20, 30k club (based on 30, 40, 50). To involve all staff in 10, 20, 30 club. Roman theme day. Staff to participate annually in Race for Life. Whole school class-based 15 min activity before starting work. To hold a Physical Activity Week culminating in whole school marathon. To purchase wet weather clothing to encourage outdoor play. To encourage physical development in the EY s. To encourage PA in After School Club. To use the awarded Food & Fitness Grant Bid to buy, install, utilise and make full use of wooden playground equipment purchased. An annual sponsored fit day for all children. To use playground/field in Melin Park for P.E activities. After School Fit Club.
7 Forest School Activities. To set aside 30 minutes each week where staff can participate in a Pilates session. To build into school timetable 10 minutes each day for either a power walking session or skipping session for pupils and staff. To continue and develop the after school ball skill club for Year 1/2 children. To possible arrange a mini fixture in the summer term with teams from our school or against a local infant school or the Year 3s in our Junior school. To teach skipping techniques to children to enable Year ½ children to participate in BHF Skipathon. To hold a SFI ABC day. This involves dancing and various other game station activities. To use the local sports centre for PE/Game sessions with the Access to Leisure Scheme. The children will walk to and from the centre and then have 30 minutes physical activity. Continue netball club new intake of children. Yard markings linked to In the zone activities. Orienteering activities linked to Sainsbury voucher scheme. Year 6 Children to coach Year 2 ( Neath Abbey infants) and year 3 children in football skills. Year 3 children to compete in a match v Neath Abbey Infants. Continue to promote 3,5,10 club as a golden time activity. Staff v pupils matches in football, rounders and cricket. Summer Term. All classes involved in fun afternoons in Skewen Park, including a nature walk. Whole school to be involved in swimming lessons (Years 1-6) Participation of pupils in Key Stage 2 to be involved in lunchtime rugby and Dragon Sports clubs.

Children to participate in Red Nose Day marathon (sponsored). Continue with walk a mile on Wednesday (introduce nursery and reception with 1& 5 miles). Sponsored Event to be held in school. Gardening- each class to be responsible for developing/ maintaining own vegetable plot. Walk to School- record how pupils travel to school for 1 week (use maths). Discuss benefits of walking to school. Yoga/aerobic sessions. Use Healthy Schools grant as a starting point for developing outdoor play area suitable for KS 2. Use school Fun Day to generate money for play area. Organise whole school sponsored walk (including staff and parents) to raise money for KS 2 play area. Finalise design for KS 2 play area. Set up KS 2 play area. Primary Schools to visit Catwg and pupils to explain and present the work they do. Involvement in Food Co-op DVD for RRU. Allotments to be started and developed within junior classes.
9 Whole School awareness on re-cycling through lessons and visits. To spend food and fitness grant of 1000 on outdoor play equipment Set up and run a 30, 40, 50 Club. To develop the 30, 40, 50, club introducing certificates for 5miles, 10miles, etc - show certificates in assembly. Create a 30, 40, 50 display to celebrate children s achievement. To develop an orienteering course within the school grounds for use during curriculum time geography/ green time. Staff meeting to share ideas and link to curriculum Orienteering: mark out a course that children can follow children will follow set of orienteering clues and devise their own Improve outdoor play by varying the games played in playground each day (timetable). Learn different playground games / skills. New playground equipment to be provided. Collect and spend Tesco Vouchers for playground equipment. Fun & Fitness after school club for KS1. Jump Rope sponsored event (British Heart Foundation). To hold after school Dragon Sports Club for KS2 children. To hold after school general Sports Club for KS2 children. To introduce skipping as an activity throughout the school. To organise 30, 40, 50 course to two other areas of the school. To introduce Jump Rope for Heart activity as part of the Yr5 and Yr 6 curriculum. Member of staff to attend Jump Rope 4 Heart training.
10 To make provision for weekly swimming lessons for all KS2 pupils and extend swimming lessons to Year 1 and 2. To promote and encourage development of physical skills through a variety of equipment and activities during breaktimes. To take part in inter school and district sports events and participate in Dragon Sports activities and after school clubs. Sponsored Run (Nursery to Year 6). To use food and fitness grant for playground markings. To produce activity books for playground activities. School council / Year 5/6 to work with lunchtime supervisors to encourage and help all pupils to participate in activities. To hold a sponsored skip for British Heart Foundation To extend the 30, 40, 50 to Infant pupils and adapt to suit their level. To set up a JRSO club. School parking banner competition. Club to meet weekly. Participate in Road Safety quiz. To set up transition sport activities with Dyffryn for yr 10 pupils to get coaching awards (cricket and netball). Visit by professional boxer (Nathan Cleverly). PESS links :Hockey (autumn) and Netball (spring). Playground equipment skipping ropes, hoops, balls etc. Organise a Fit Kids after school club. Fit Kids exercise club running on Astroturf at local rugby club. To develop an outdoor adventure play area.
11 Plan an outdoor adventure playground in consultation with appropriate experts. Large Play Equipment installed. School Council to design a questionnaire on activity choices. To extend the 30/40/50 club to Y1/2. To promote cycling to school. letter to parents after training to encourage pupils to cycle to school. provision of bike racks. parents to be informed of what pupils will require when they bring their bikes to school. To promote walking to school. Newsletters to parents at beginning of Summer Term promoting the health advantages of their children walking to school. A certificate for pupils who walked to school on a regular basis. To participate in the Tesco run. Swimming provision for all KS2 pupils To participate in walk to school week, informing parents via leaflets made by Year 6 children. To explore taster sessions for sports that are new to Tonna and would promote enjoyment of physical activity: Badminton Yoga Bugs. Health day at school to promote the enjoyment of physical activity within school and encouraging all the school to be involved. Also to celebrate the success of sport activities after school e.g. tennis, rugby, swimming. Tonna School to adopt the PESS initiatives The Health Promoting Playground and In the Zone. Member of staff to be trained and skills cascaded down through school. Swimming session for nursery and parents session. Organise sponsored dance event.

Borfa House- to continue to promote PA through annual residential visit. Pupils to participate in 30, 40, 50 club activities during PE lessons. School to organise and host a Cluster Rugby and Netball tournament. Will run annually. Clearing and improving of Woodland area for greater use by pupils. Working with The Prince s Trust. To encourage children to walk in Briton Ferry (seasonal works/ allotment/ walk to school): Yrs 3/4. To encourage physical activity through After School Clubs. Schools will collect Tesco vouchers to order new P.E. equipment. Sponsored Skip with British Heart Foundation. Training sessions for children (skipping) in readiness for Jump off. Complete as a short module of work in P.E. Actual Jump rope for heart event involving pupils, staff, parents and governors. Member of staff to attend P.E.S.S. Dance course and feed back to all staff.

To enter a number of teams in Welsh tennis competition. Reintroduce Skipping club in summer term. To hold a jump off to raise funds for British Heart Foundation. To take part in inter school competitions: soccer urdd Gala dragon sports festivals athletics tennis Cycle Craft. Letter to parents to encourage children to cycle to school. Create poster of cycling rules. Create poster of persuasion to persuade children to cycle / walk to school where possible. Junior Road Safety Officer. Sialens Chwaraeon ABC. Safety on the streets / stranger danger, etc. School council to encourage people to cycle to school. To raise additional funding to purchase PA resources for playtimes. To promote PA in Urdd through range of activities. To approach local tennis club to negotiate use of facilities in summer term. 20, 30, 40 Route Measured and marked around the school.
14 School will collect Tesco vouchers and use these to order new PE equipment which will be used by children at EY, KS1 and KS2. To continue with the 30, 40, 50 club within the school, and to encourage all members of staff and pupils to participate in walking. To set up a gardening club within the school which will be held during lunch hour on Monday afternoons. Each year group will have responsibility of looking after the garden each half term. Whole school project of gardening day, where pupils will bring a variety of bulbs and flowers to plant in the school grounds. Early years department to participate in the sponsored toddle to raise money for Barnados charity. Junior department to participate in a 12 mile sponsored cycle to raise money for new resources for the school. To encourage all pupils in the junior department to walk to the swimming pool for swimming lessons rather than to take the bus as has been done in the past. Fluorescent jackets have been purchased especially. To provide pupils with a bike shelter which will enable them to cycle to school. Year 6 pupils to have cycling lessons and to sit their cycling proficiency exam. To provide parents and pupils with a safe path across the school grounds to access the school. This encourages parents and children leave their cars at the bottom of Alltacham drive, and to walk the hill. Year 1 and 2 pupils to learn road safety rules and the importance of crossing the road safely. To receive lessons from the Kerb Craft organisation. To develop a Gym Corner in the infants activity room. Consisting of a mini treadmill, cross trainer and rowing machine. Pupils will have access to these machines daily. Implement Playzone training. Make use of the facilities in the locality use the traversing wall at Ysgol Hendre. Carry out a survey of physical activity (pupils, staff and parents). Hold an Activity Day involving pupils, staff and parents.
15 Storage for all PE equipment. HS club to monitor playground equipment/toys. To use SC/Eco to monitor record cards along with staff and LSA s. School council to liaise with PTA to arrange sponsored physical activity event. SC to have portion of funds. To arrange Cycle Proficiency for KS 2 with Road Safety Unit. Whole school Fun Run around school fields. Possibly fancy dress. To raise money for PTA and local P.O.N.T.Y. Project. Whole afternoon activity. Participate in the Super Schools Wales & Media4Schools initiative. Arrange for visits by Royal Marines/Air Cadets, etc, to work with staff and pupils during P.E./ games lessons or as part of a one-off FULL DAY activity. Arrange Activity Trips for pupils- e.g. Llangrannog, Rhossilli, etc. Provision of bicycle racks in Lower school linked to Smoke Free Class monetary awards. Mayoral Citizenship Award money donated to PE Dept. Used to develop Duke of Edinburgh s Award activities. Extended P.E. curriculum for girls. Annual taster activity days held in Summer Term. Activity trips and tours skiing, after school activities (Team games, badminton, aerobics, trampolining, fitness training, etc.) Introduction of Duke of Edinburgh s Award for all year 9 pupils. JSLA Leadership awards offered to pupils. To develop links with the community to give pupils increased opportunities to do sports. Investigate if there are people or organisations that could provide coaching or training for staff and/or pupils.
16 Allow the Hideout youth facility to use the school yard for physical exercise in the school holidays. Increase the number of games and competitions the school enters. Ask key teachers to run the girls football teams and organise matches. Try to develop different types of physical activity that may appeal to pupils who currently do not get involved in what is offered. Introduce Tag Rugby. Introduce Hockey. Purchase of new equipment for school fitness centre. Induction programme for all staff and pupils to enable safe use of fitness equipment. Pupils to have individual fitness programme to improve fitness (in PE Lessons) placed in pupil planners. Offer Boxercise classes to pupils following the purchase of new equipment. Use staff as role models to talk about their personal fitness programmes and sporting activities involved in assemblies. Paint active play areas around the school. Promote uses of facilities for staff outside school hours. Introduce annual whole school sponsored walk. Promote special sporting activities e.g. Dodgeball. To integrate pupils with disabilities through wheelchair sports. School council to Bid to Healthy Schools for grant for inactive peers. To use 30, 40, 50 club to improve fitness & stamina for all pupils going on ski trip. Set up a staff activity club (30, 40, 50 club). Raise funds for PTA through 30, 40, 50 route.
