The children will re-visit the game they played in the first lesson. With the skills they have developed through the unit they should be able to play the game more successfully. The lesson is an opportunity for the children to assess themselves and consider how they have developed through the unit. They should be encouraged to assess their own performance, indentifying their strengths and skills they need to work on. It also provides you with a final opportunity to make judgments on the children's ability so you can complete your assessment for the unit. Page 1 of 5

2 Warm Up Draw the letter Duration : 3-5 All children to work on their own in a space Call out a letter of the alphabet The children then have to move drawing out the shape of the letter on the floor Find a space Move in different ways Capital or lower case? Increase heart rate Build up speed gradually Progression Introduce key words for the children to spell out Give each child a hockey stick and 1 ball to dribble with as they make the shape of the letter Page 2 of 5

3 Coordination and Movement Take the ball for a walk Duration : 5-10 All the children are to work on their own in a set area with 1 ball each Ask the children to 'take their ball for a walk' dribbling it around the area, on the floor, using their hands Keep the ball close Keep the ball under control Head up - look where you are going Move into space Start slow and gradually encourage the children to speed up but still keeping the ball under control Progression Give each child a hockey stick and ask them to use it to 'take the ball for a walk' around the area To make activity harder Speed up the activity To make activity easier Slow down the activity Page 3 of 5

4 Game Key Skills Game - Year 1 Duration : The aim of the game is to score points by sliding a beanbag or rolling a ball over your opponent's line. The game is played one against one, or two against two Set up an area for each pair to play in using four cones The children must stand outside the area and slide the beanbag/roll the ball across the area When a child has the beanbag/ball they are attacking and must try and slide/roll the ball past their opponent When a child does not have the beanbag/ball they are defending and must try to stop it getting past them by moving to intercept it Each time they manage to get the beanbag/ball past their opponent they score 1 point Adaptations and variations Move the lines further apart as they get better at playing the game Use small equipment to make the game harder, or large equipment to make it easier Use hockey sticks to hit the ball - make the game hockey specific What skills do you need to use? Ask the children to think about this as they play the game Experiment with different ideas and skills you have practised throughout the unit Ask the children if they can remember the rules of the game from last time they played it Observe children whilst playing the game - are they able to play it successfully? Have the children improved since they last played the game? Are they more successful Provide advice and guidance if necessary SAFETY POINT: Use the hockey sticks safely and sensibly Explain the rules and how the game works then let the children explore the game for themselves Encourage the children to think about the tactics they have learnt throughout the unit Let the children have a go at the game Warm Down Circle Stretch Duration : 2-5 Split the class into groups of 6 Give each group a ball and ask them to form a small circle Each child should stand with their feet shoulder width apart and reach down so their hands hang near the ground The ball is then passed around the group - children should roll it around the circle Ask the children to roll the ball around the circle 3 times in one direction and then 3 times in the opposite direction Encourage children to keep their legs straight Gradually decrease intensity Page 4 of 5
