3 Tsunami Alert Bulletins Issued by Tsunami Warning Centers 2-15 minutes after an earthquake large enough to cause a tsunami occurs Initial bulletin usually based only on seismic information Subsequent bulletins issued half hourly or more frequently if information warrants until tsunami is confirmed or alert is cancelled Tsunami Warning: The highest level of tsunami alert. Trigger: M 7.5 earthquake in the Pacific Areas from 0-3 hours travel time of the 1st wave arrival. Trigger: M earthquake offshore the California - British Columbia coast Areas from 0-2 hours travel time

Trigger: M earthquake offshore the California - British Columbia coast Areas from 2-3 hours travel time Tsunami Advisory: The third highest level of tsunami alert. Trigger: M 7.5 earthquake in the Pacific Areas greater than 6 hours travel time of the 1st wave arrival. Tsunami Warnings, Watches and Advisories do not mean that a tsunami has been detected, only that an earthquake with the potential to produce a tsunami has occurred.
