Support For New Definition Of Marriage Strongly support Somewhat support Somewhat oppose 12 Strongly oppose 34 Don't Know/ Refused 7 Question Text: As you may have heard, a number of provincial courts in Canada have ruled that the federal law that restricts marriage to opposite-sex unions is unconstitutional. The federal government has responded by proposing a new definition of marriage that would include same-sex unions. Please indicate whether you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose changing the definition of marriage to include same-sex unions

Support By Age Support By Region 75 All Canada Atlantic % Quebec Ontario Prairies B.C Support (strongly & somewhat) Oppose (strongly & somewhat)

Notwithstanding Clause Should Be Used To Maintain Current Definition Neither agree nor disagree Question Text: As you may know, the notwithstanding clause allows parliament to override some court decisions. To what extent do you agree or disagree that the notwithstanding clause should be used to maintain the current definition of marriage as one man and one woman.

There Is Nothing Morally Wrong With Homosexuality Neither Question Text: For each statement that I read to you, please tell me whether you agree strongly, agree somewhat, neither agree nor disagree, disagree somewhat, or disagree strongly There is nothing morally wrong with homosexuality.

Gay Marriage Is A Threat To The Institution Of Marriage Neither Question Text: For each statement that I read to you, please tell me whether you agree strongly, agree somewhat, neither agree nor disagree, disagree somewhat, or disagree strongly Allowing gays and lesbians to marry is a threat to the institution of marriage.

Gay And Lesbian Couples Should Be Treated Like Heterosexual Couples Neither Question Text: For each statement that I read to you, please tell me whether you agree strongly, agree somewhat, neither agree nor disagree, disagree somewhat, or disagree strongly Gay or lesbian couples who enter into committed relationships should be treated the same as heterosexual couples who do so.

Courts In Canada Have Too Much Power Neither Question Text: For each statement that I read to you, please tell me whether you agree strongly, agree somewhat, neither agree nor disagree, disagree somewhat, or disagree strongly I think courts in Canada have too much power.

We Should Replace Civil Marriage With Civil Unions Neither Question Text: For each statement that I read to you, please tell me whether you agree strongly, agree somewhat, neither agree nor disagree, disagree somewhat, or disagree strongly State-sanctioned civil unions that would apply to all partnerships, both same sex and opposite sex, should replace civil marriages.

Churches Should Be Only Institution Conducting Marriages Neither Question Text: For each statement that I read to you, please tell me whether you agree strongly, agree somewhat, neither agree nor disagree, disagree somewhat, or disagree strongly Marriages should be conducted only by churches and other houses of worship.

Preferred Course Of Action Same-sex couples should be allowed to marry just like heterosexual couples 37 Same-sex couples should be allowed to enter a legal union with the same rights and responsibilities as heterosexual couples, but this union should NOT be a marriage 37 There should be no recognition of same-sex couples in law 19 Don t know/ Refused Question Text: Which of the following views is closer to your own?
