1 Care & Share Second Harvest Food Bank: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast PA distributes product to a network of member agencies that then distributes it to individuals living in their respective communities. A common misconception is that Second Harvest distributes food directly to individuals and serves meals at their facility at 2045 Harvest Way, Allentown, PA There are two kinds of member agencies, those that send groceries home with individuals called Emergency Food Pantries and those that serve meals on-site. The Food Pantries serve 63,000 people each month through a 6 county network. Lions District members may make monetary contributions designated specifically to Lehigh and Northampton Counties, if they wish. This however doesn t apply to food donations. If you want to designate where your food donations will be used, deliver the food to your local food banks. For each dollar donated Second Harvest is able to distribute 9 pounds of food. This is equivalent to 7 meals for someone who might not otherwise have been able to afford them. Your Local Food Banks: You are also able to make monetary donations as well as food items to local food banks. This may also be more convenient. Items Most Needed: Cereal, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Tuna, Rice, Pasta, Salt & Sugar, Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruit, Canned Meats & Stews, Soup, Diapers, Laundry Detergent, Personal Care Items (soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc).
