Test Automation today is developing as a separate discipline and organizations are now thinking towards automating application, to have a better cost benefit in the long run. This paper summarizes how regression testing will be automated for Web applications by using Selenium testing framework and Factory pattern Method. One of Selenium s stated goal is to become the de facto open source replacement for the tools like HP Quick Test Professional Rational Functional Tester which are very high cost. Keywords:Selenium,Java,Hudson,Maven,FactoryPattern Method I.INTRODUCTION Automating functional tests is one of the problems facing software development projects. Most of the times Functional testing is still done manually. In recent years, tools such as S e l e n i u m have helped make it easier to automate functional testing of software applications. However, web applications have long remained difficulty to test because of multitiered architecture, multiple browsers, and web technologies such as JavaScript. II. TEST AUTOMATION FOR WEB APPLICATIONS Many, perhaps most, software applications today are written as web-based applications to be run in an Internet browser. The effectiveness of testing these applications varies widely among companies and organizations. In an era of highly interactive and responsive software processes where many organizations are using some form of agile methodology, test automation is frequently becoming a requirement for software projects. Test automation means using a software tool to run repeatable tests against the application to be tested. Some organizations have chosen expensive solutions such as Mercury Interactive Win Runner or Rational Robot (with mixed results). Recently the open-source tool Selenium, originally developed by Thought Works, has gained attention as a possible silver bullet for the problems of automated testing for Web 135

2 Applications. III. SELENIUM AND FACTORY PATTERN METHOD Selenium is an open source portable testing framework for web application testing especially for the applications orms. There are three variants of Selenium, which can be used in isolation or in combination to create complete automation suite for your web applications. Selenium IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is a tool used to build test scripts. It has a recording feature where user can record the user actions they performed on the webpage and exports them as reusable scripts in many programming languages that selenium supports. Selenium Web driver (Aka Selenium2) is the new feature from selenium provides an easy and extensive API to execute the exported reusable script in different web browsers. This extensive API is used to customize the script to cover all possible scenarios which have to be tested. Selenium-Grid Allows to run the Script on Multiple machines at multiple environments. FACTORY PATTERN METHOD: It is an Object Oriented Design Pattern in which it defines classes for creating objects called object classes and these classes will be initialized by factory class. The essence of the Factory method Pattern is to "Define an interface for creating an object, but let the classes which implement the interface decide which class to instantiate. The Factory method lets a class defer instantiation to subclasses. that follow agile methodology. This tool is primarily developed in Java Script, browser technologies and hence supports all the major browsers on all the platf actual class. The Factory Method Pattern of SJT frame work is explained in detail. The Frame work comprises of 3types of classes Page Object Classes,PageFactory Classes and Page Test Classes. These 3 types of classes will be integrated to validate a specific functionality. A. Page Object Classes: All the Objects of the Webpage and the services that a webpage offer are specified in the page object classes. B. Page Factory Classes: All the Object classes and their services will be initialized and they are made available to the test classes using these Page Factory Classes. C.Page Test Classes: Provides data to the Page Object classes and verifies whether the services that are offered by page object classes are implemented correctly or not, and application is working as expected. Junit or Testng Frame Work is used to design these classes. In this paper we have shown Login Scenario Implementation for our web application is shown as an example, the implementation details of SJT frame work is as follows. IV.SJT FRAME WORK SJT (Selenium Java Test) frame work is a frame work developed using Selenium Web driver Java Client, Testng Frame work, Itext reporting frame work, and Maven as a building tool. The Selenium Scripts (Test Cases) are written using Testng frame work and Selenium Java Client Drivers. The Test Cases are developed using factory method pattern in which objects are Independent of the Fig1:Login Page Object Class 136

3 The above code explains the objects in the page and the services that are provided by the page.variables in a class resembles page objects, they are identified using selenium page object identification mechanism. Methods in class represent the services that an object class offers. In Login Page Username, Password, Login Button and Forgot password link are Page Objects. Selenium identifies Page Objects on a Web page by using its properties. Selenium web driver API supports various methods to find objects based on its properties. Table 1 shows various properties using which objects can be identified. Selenium Test Results Two Types of Test Reports/Results are integrated with SJT frame work.unitth Reporting frame work is implemented to obtain the high level test results, Web driver reporting frame work has implemented to get step by step result(detailed reporting) along with the screen shots. 4 supplied to relevant test scripts and it will be validated. Here Our Data Provider is MS-Access and this was integrated with Selenium using JDBC API. Fig.5. Selenium Web Driver Low Level Test-Case Result report V.Selenium and Maven The easiest way to setup selenium web-driver project is to use maven so that selenium will download all the dependencies and will create the project for users. Selenium and Hudson Fig.6 Selenium Maven Pom.xml VI.DATA DRIVEN IMPLEMENTATION FOR SJT FRAME WORK While testing an application using Manual or Automation Approach, application need to be tested with different kinds of Data. Selenium does not have any data providers.in SJT Frame work an external data provider is integrated, various kinds of data is maintained in this data provider, this data is Hudson is a continuous Integration tool developed in Java. Hudson runs in a servlet container and can execute maven projects. The main advantage with Hudson is to implement continuous processes of applying quality control. The main advantage of implementing Hudson for selenium is to execute the test scripts after a new build deployed. Hudson job continuously take the latest code from SVN or CSV and deploys a new build on the server. Then the job executes the 138

5 selenium scripts. Following is the Hudson job configuration for selenium. Fig8: Hudson Job Configuration for Selenium CONCLUSION Auto testing is an effective way to improve the project quality. In order to write and use auto testing in a better way, we must choose suitable frameworks and right method. In this article we construct a useful testing framework which combines the strength of Selenium and FitNesse.
