1 Cambridge IGCSE English First CIE 2 language Introduction Cambridge IGCSE First Language English is designed for learners whose first language is English. Cambridge IGCSE First Language English learners develop the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively in both speech and writing. They learn how to employ a wide-ranging vocabulary, use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and develop a personal style and an awareness of the audience being addressed. Learners are also encouraged to read widely, both for their own enjoyment and to further their awareness of the ways in which English can be used. Cambridge IGCSE First Language English also develops more general analysis and communication skills such as synthesis, inference, and the ability to order facts and present opinions effectively. The specification offers reading sources to the topic and theme of writing tasks. The reading sources act as stimulus for writing tasks, providing students with a clear route through each paper. Paper 2 has a distinct identity to better support high quality provision and engaging teaching and learning. It allows explorations in Creative Reading and Writing, looks at how writers use narrative and descriptive techniques to engage the interest of readers Speaking and Listening will emphasise the importance of the wider benefits that speaking and listening skills have for students. The endorsed unit will draw on good practice to suggest how engaging formative tasks can lead to a single summative assessment. Assessment takes place at the end of the course.

2 What Can I do after completing the course? Cambridge IGCSE English courses provide an excellent foundation for students who: want to continue their studies at a higher level (including AS or A Level, Cambridge Pre-U and International Baccalaureate) need a language qualification to complement other subjects they are studying need a final qualification in English language.

3 GCSE English Literature Edexcel 2 Information about the Course The GCSE English Literature qualification has a three-unit structure to allow students to develop skills in reading and responding to prose, poetry and drama texts. Assessment strategies support students achievement in an un-tiered, closed book context through the use of extract-based questions in the assessment of the 19th-century novel and the Shakespeare plays. Assessment takes place at the end of the course. Unit 1 Understanding Prose + Unit 2: Understanding Poetry Unit 3: Shakespeare and Contemporary Drama What's assessed What's assessed What's assessed one text from Literary Heritage one text from Different Cultures and Traditions. GCSE Biology covers classification of organisms and evolution, human biology, environmental biology, genes, communication mechanisms and life processes. Those taking individual sciences can also expect to study biotechnology, enzymes and genetic engineering. GCSE Chemistry covers elemental reactivity, material science, basic organic chemistry, reaction rates and ionic and covalent bonds. Those taking individual sciences can also expect to study electrolysis, reversible reactions and reaction mechanisms. GCSE Physics covers a great range of topics including electronics, mechanics, astrophysics and energy sources. Those taking individual sciences can also expect to study applications of refraction, sub-atomic physics and thermodynamics. Biology Chemistry Physics Three modules are required for each GCSE. Individual Core B 1 C 1 P 1 sciences require you to complete all three in that Additional B 2 C 2 P 2 discipline and students completing triple science will Extended B 3 C 3 P 3 achieve this.
