1 Registration Packet Year
2 Welcome Back! As we enter into our 9th year, we would like to welcome back our members new and old. We hope everyone had a nice summer and we re looking forward to continuing to work with your children! Here s to another fantastic year ahead! Class Descriptions BEGINNERS: For new students to Irish dancing, and students still too young for Advanced Beginner. BEGINNER II (Softshoe): Dancers who have advanced from the Beginner level. In this level dancers will continue to work on the basics of softshoe. Dancers will continue learning their Reel, Jig, and group dances, as well as a new dance, the graceful Slip Jig. ADVANCED BEGINNER (Softshoe from above + 30 min. hardshoe): Dancers who have displayed a good sense of rhythm and balance will try hardshoe. First year hardshoe dancers will find this level to be a fun challenge. In hardshoe dancing, dancers use various parts of the shoe (toe, tap, heel) to drum out beats of the music. Dances learned may include the Traditional (fast speed) Hornpipe, and a Traditional Set dance called St. Patrick s Day. *PARENTS Make sure to ask the teacher before purchasing hardshoes. Some teachers may want them to start in socks. NOVICE / OPEN PRIZEWINNER: As well as more intricate dances, dancers will really buckle down on technique as it will lay the groundwork for the rest of their dancing years. Turning toes out, dancing on toes, crossing, pointing toes down, extension of legs, and strong posture will be a big focus. We recommend dancers at this level who wish to advance be attending at least two classes per week. PRELIM / CHAMPIONSHIPS: Dancers who have advanced to our highest level class will focus on their two Oireachtas dances plus their set piece. Emphasis on foot placement and posture will be drilled more than ever. Stretching, elevating and more intricate hardshoe rhythms will be taught. Longer dances will require increased stamina, so occasionally specific stamina exercises will be implemented in class. It is absolutely necessary that dancers are practicing at home to master the more advanced footwork and perfect their timing and execution of them. Extra classes and private lessons are encouraged and available.
