7 Ride-on Lawnmowers All Atco riders and lawn tractors feature a 3 in 1 cutting system. This consists of a mid-mounted cutter deck fitted with either a single blade or twin blades depending on the width of cut. Grass clippings can either be discharged into a rear mounted collector ready for disposal or using a deflector kit simply discharged onto the ground behind the machine. Alternatively you can save time as well as fertilising your lawn by recycling the clippings using an optional mulching kit. If you never want to collect your grass we also have dedicated mulching machines. Atco lawn riders are extremely easy to use; these compact machines are a great alternative to walk behind mowers for smaller gardens. For larger gardens of around an acre or more an Atco lawn tractor will help you maintain your lawns with ease. But our tractors can do much more than cut grass we have a wide range of accessories including rollers, aerators, carts and spreaders. Highly manoeuvrable it can cope with the smallest and most intricate areas of lawn. Powered by a Briggs & Stratton 190cc OHV electric start engine this rider has plenty of power and can tackle an unruly lawn with ease. It has a semi-automatic transmission; there are no gears, you simply move the control lever forward to move ahead or backwards to reverse. The further you push the lever, the quicker you will go it couldn t be simpler. A rear mounted collector holds 140 litres of clippings. A buzzer lets you know when the collector is full and you can empty it without leaving the driver s seat. Cutting height is adjusted by a lever giving 5 positions from 30mm to 75mm. The cutter blade is engaged using a lever adjacent to the steering wheel. A safety brake stops the blade revolving within 3 seconds of disengagement. Many owners prefer the rear engine layout of this rider as it offers unrivalled forward visibility giving the driver confidence when working in areas where a tractor would be too big. But the compact dimensions don t hinder performance; the Rider 28 gives a superb finish on fine lawns and will also tame the more unruly one. Powered by a Briggs & Stratton 344cc engine, with a history of proven reliability, this rider has a fully hydrostatic transmission so you can change from forward to reverse without using a clutch. Use the control lever to regulate your ground speed with infinitely variable precision. Clippings are blown into a 170 litre rear mounted collector which features an audible alarm to let you know when it is full. The collector can be emptied from the driving seat. Cutting height is adjustable from 30mm to 80mm through 7 positions. The cutter blade is engaged and disengaged via a safety brake ensuring the blade stops within 3 seconds of disengagement. Reliable Briggs & Stratton 344cc engines deliver power to a 5-speed manual transmission on the GT 30M or a fully hydrostatic transmission on the GT 30H. Hydrostatic transmissions are clutchless automatic systems that allow infinitely variable speed adjustment; they shuttle seamlessly from forward to reverse which greatly enhances manoeuvrability. The cutting deck features twin contra rotating blades for a fine finish plus powerful rear discharge and collection of clippings. Blades are engaged or disengaged at the flick of a switch through an electronic clutch. Cutting height is adjustable from 25mm to 80mm. A snap on hose connection on the cutter deck facilitates cleaning after use. Clippings are collected in a rear mounted 240 litre collector which features a buzzer to let the driver know when it needs emptying. Tipping the collector is done from the driver s seat. Both of these Atco tractors are a real pleasure to use. To talk about how they handle seems more automotive, however the light steering, seating, ergonomics and ride quality are outstanding. The GT 36M has a 344cc Briggs & Stratton engine and 5-speed manual gear box whilst the GT 36H has a 500cc Briggs & Stratton engine and fully hydrostatic transmission. The hydrostatic system gives infinitely variable forward and reverse speeds using a foot pedal and can shuttle effortlessly between the two. Both models have the same 36 cutting deck with twin contra rotating blades. This cutting arrangement gives an excellent finish and powerful rear discharge of cut grass into the collector. Blades are engaged and disengaged at the flick of a switch through an electronic clutch which stops the blades within 3 seconds of disengagement. Clippings are blown into a large 240 litre capacity rear mounted collector. A buzzer sounds when the collector is full - it can be emptied without leaving the driving seat. Both models are powered by Briggs & Stratton s 344cc engine. The GT38M has a manual gearbox but a fully hydrostatic transmission on the GT 38H provides infinitely variable forward and reverse ground speed control via a foot pedal. Used on a regular basis mulching is a highly efficient method of recycling clippings and is increasingly popular as it does away with the need to compost the grass. Mulching leaves a fine finish; the mulched clippings are barely visible as they are blown deep into the turf and return valuable nutrients such as nitrogen back into the soil promoting healthier growth. Side discharge comes into its own in longer grass conditions. It leaves a uniform finish and will tidy up a lawn which has grown too long for successful mulching. If you want even more power the GT40H Twin is fitted with a Briggs & Stratton twin cylinder Intek 7220 V-Twin engine. These tractors also feature a twin blade timed cutter deck. The blades contra rotate and overlap each other, this provides an excellent finish even with such a wide cut. This arrangement also creates a very powerful collection system. Clippings are blown through the rear discharge outlet into a 320 litre capacity collector which also features a buzzer to alert the driver when it is full. The blades are turned on and off at the flick of a switch through an electronic clutch. Cleaning the cutter deck after use is straightforward thanks to a snap on hose fitting on top of the casing. A fully hydrostatic transmission system makes these tractors a real pleasure to use, especially if you need to manoeuvre around trees, garden furniture or other obstacles. 15 Walk Behind Lawnmowers It can be daunting trying to choose a new lawnmower. One of the most important considerations to bear in mind is the size of your lawn. Mains electric mowers are lightweight, easy to use and ideally suited to smaller lawns of around half a tennis court in size. Petrol engine mowers are a better choice for larger areas; they are more powerful and not restricted by a power cable. Atco use advanced Briggs & Stratton engines that are easy to start; on some models you simply have to turn a key. Atco Quattro mowers have 4 wheels; they are highly manoeuvrable and give an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a classic striped finish choose a Liner machine with a rear roller or for the finest cut of all a Clipper cylinder mower will cut your grass with scissor like precision. Other things to consider are the chassis which can be made of polypropylene, pressed steel or aluminium, and the type of drive. Hand propelled machines have to be pushed to make them move forward but one with power drive will move forward on its own when the drive lever is engaged. There are three outstanding models in this sector of the Atco range. At the heart of these machines is the cutting cylinder. Our Clipper 16 and Clipper 20 both have cylinders with 6 steel blades which produce almost 340 cuts per metre. With 10 blades the Clipper 20 Club cylinder achieves 565 cuts per metre and is suitable for light commercial as well as domestic use. All three models are fitted with recoil start Briggs & Stratton 4-stroke engines, have power drive and a centrifugal clutch with variable forward speed controlled by the engine throttle. Cutting heights range from 7mm to 30mm on the Clipper 16 and Clipper 20 and from an amazing 4mm to 27mm on the Clipper 20 Club. A single control point allows infinitely variable adjustment within each range. A manicured lawn really needs classic stripes to show it off to perfection.
