1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Solution Architect Reports To: GM Business Improvement and Systems (GM BIS) Location Christchurch Date: July 2016 Enable Overview Enable is building the ultra-fast broadband (UFB) network for Christchurch and surrounding centres which will deliver fibre broadband services to up to 200,000 homes, schools and businesses in Christchurch, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Woodend, Lincoln, Prebbleton and Rolleston. Enable s fibre broadband services will play a vital role as Christchurch rebuilds it will sit at the heart of our vision for a 21st century city. It will generate new industry, provide unprecedented access to global markets and services for local businesses, and enable the people of Christchurch to connect with each other in exciting new ways while also being a key enabler in advancing health services and the way we learn. Primary Function of the Role: Key Relationships: To determine, document, communicate and review the logical design for solutions to meet the business goals in alignment with strategic enterprise architecture. Ensures the production of solution architecture artefacts is done in a timely manner to meet the needs of the business. This includes: defining and documenting the proposed solution architecture for a project to ensure that it is aligned to both the business objective and architectural strategy ensuring the integrity of the solution architecture by identifying and resolving any conflicts across stakeholder The role requires close working relationships with the following stakeholders: Within Enable GM BIS Senior Leadership Team Chief Architect Business Analysts System Developers/Testers/Trainers
2 Major External Contacts: Vendors Outsource Suppliers Key Dimensions 3 direct reports (System Developers) Decision Making Authority Decisions Expected: Solution design, build architecture, build methodology Recommendations Expected: Architecture framework changes, domain updates, standard changes Business Outcome Key Responsibilities KPI Leadership Create a performance focused culture through personal leadership, teamwork and the development of individual accountability for performance of business analyst team. Ensure appropriate people development processes are in place to facilitate growth and development of employees and where employee input is encouraged and differences are resolved constructively. Manage the training and retention of team members. Encourage and support continuous improvement initiatives across the team. Take ownership and accountability of the teams delivery of outcomes Actively demonstrates the behaviours that support the Enable values and leadership competencies Works collaboratively with the BIS Leaders operating as a leadership team to support the GM BIS Define and Document Solution Architecture Accountable for the technology solution for a project, including the production and quality control of the high level solution assessment, solution concept and solution architecture document artefact to support the project Ensure alignment between to the solution and the enterprise architecture Review of solution delivery to ensure it conforms with design or make adjustments as required Maintain an end to end focus on the solution architecture deliver and the governance of Ensure Alignment Continually review technical designs and the architectural direction to identify possible solution differences; amend where necessary Ensure alignment between the detailed design and the documented solutions architectural design Continuous improvement Put forward any innovative ideas or approaches to enhance Enable s strategic position in the market Production Solution artefacts that are Fit for purpose Timely Complete Approved Understandable Ensure compliance across design and build Expected to contribute to
3 Identify deficiencies and gaps in architecture and IT practices; lead or participate in opportunities for process improvement Continually audit and refine existing architectural designs Enterprise Architecture framework Business domain documentation Business processes Introduction of new technology This position description is not intended to be a complete or limiting description of the functions that may reasonably be requested to undertake. Demonstrate a commitment to continually improving health, safety and wellness performance. 4 Statutory / Compliance Responsibilities Quality improvement. Improved internal communication. Streamlining of Process and Systems. Ownership of product and processes. Safeguard Enable from legal/reputation risk by complying with all relevant statutory, regulatory, contractual and legal requirements and standards. Comply with all of Enable s requirements and policies including the enforcement of internal controls and delegated authority rules. Know and monitor compliance and advise the CEO and General Counsel on any risk and ensure agreed mitigation plans are in place and actioned. Person Specification Formal Education: Tertiary qualification in IT or any other related discipline or equivalent in experience Specialist Training and IT experience Experience: Extensive Telecommunications experience Solution architectural experience Extensive experience in developing applications and standards Extensive experience in Solution design Specific Knowledge, Skills and Attributes: Value Behaviours expected when working for Enable: Demonstrated leadership skills Strong written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills Takes ownership and responsibility for work output Manages internal and supplier relationships to ensure good outcomes for both customers and the business Able to source, understand and present in an audience-appropriate format a good level of detail that can facilitate good quality decision making Strong critical thinker Strong stakeholder management skills, able to facilitate and present to Senior Leadership team Agile and waterfall design methodology Advanced written and verbal communication skills Sound knowledge of project management Ability to prototype in Python, Java or SQL API design experience Solution development experience Living a common set of value-based principles that define the behaviours of all employees in a performance-driven culture.
