Virtual Gastric Band Hypnosis Presented by: Paula Hunter Borthwick Certified Clinical Hypnotist Certified in Virtual Gastric Band By Sheila Granger
BACKGROUND hypnosis, has been around since 2009 and has generated a lot of positive press from the global media. subjecting it to a trial. Sheila issued an invitation for volunteers to take part in a free trial and had little difficulty in achieving the required numbers. She took 25 volunteers of different shapes, sizes, age ranges and gender and saw them in a group setting. Sheila had envisioned perhaps only a 40% success rate, believing that group treatment might dilute its effectiveness. In fact, the program was 95% successful during this trial.
RESULTS OF INITIAL TRIAL Sheila saw the group in just three one hour sessions. She was astounded to record that they lost over 14 stones between them in only three weeks, and all but one reported a change in their eating habits. 14 stones = 196 lbs. Sheila is now petitioning the National Health Service (in the UK), a government funded health care system, to include her Virtual Gastric Band program under this system so that everyone can benefit from this program, not just those who can afford it. This is the only program of its kind that is involved in medical trials and she is currently awaiting these results.
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS? Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention, and, even though it is 100% natural and normal, it remains one of the most fascinating phenomena of the human mind. Our ability to enter this unique state of consciousness opens the door to countless possibilities for healing, self -exploration and change. When you enter into the absorbed state of hypnosis, you can use your thoughts, talents and experiences in ways not usually available to us. With the help of a trained professional, you can develop innate, individual abilities that enable making desired changes in your thoughts, feelings and behaviors possible. For reasons that are as yet not clear, the focused state of hypnosis that we could not ordinarily consciously make.
HOW CAN THIS AFFECT YOUR BODY? The body responds physically to thoughts. When we think a frightening thought, we can experience stomach, muscular rigidity, sweating, shaking, and so on. When we think a pleasurable thought, we can experience reduced heart rate, deeper breathing, relaxation of muscles, and so on. These are autonomic nervous system responses that are involuntary, but they can be utilized to promote health. When hypnotized, an individual is very open to suggestions that can enhance positive and diminish negative physical reactions.
CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTIZED? Some people find it easier to relax than others. By the same token, some people are able to go into trance more quickly and more deeply than others. About 85% of people can go into at least a light trance. For Virtual Gastric Band, a light trance is enough to benefit from this program! Even for those people (maybe 10-15%) who do not enter into even a light trance state, hypnosis may still be helpful to assist their relaxation and improve their suggestibility to constructive comments and suggestions.
WAS I IN HYPNOSIS? were hypnotized at all. really is. There are differences between the brain waves of people who are asleep and those who are in trance. In practice, people who are hypnotized often talk with the hypnotist, and can both answer and ask questions, hear everything that is said very clearly, and are perfectly well aware. There is no mysterious feeling to being hypnotized and our minds are not taken over nor controlled.
WAS I IN HYPNOSIS? This expectation and perhaps a demand to have some mysterious experience beyond conscious control or awareness seems to leave some people disappointed and even denying they had any experience at all. These same people may actually have received substantial results and unconscious change. Hypnosis allows clients to be more focused and less distractible and more skillful in using their own mental abilities constructively. In this way, they can achieve more of their goals, and consequently, actually achieve more (not less) control of their personal comfort, health, and well -being.
WHAT ABOUT DIETING? Most people who follow a traditional dieting system will lose weight while they are on that diet. As soon as the diet stops, the weight invariably returns, often leaving them heavier than before the diet began! It is estimated that 95% of all people who diet experience this cycle. Most diets include some form of deprivation and/or denial; some involve counting calories, or points, but all merely serve to program the mind to think about food. When an individual gives up a diet, they will find them self thinking about food more than they ever did before!
WHAT ABOUT DIETING? In the denial of comfort foods, in eating different meals to the rest of the family, three things happen: The brain fights against it. The body fights against it. The day to day environment fights against us. Because most eating habits are deeply engrained in the subconscious, the outcome is the same each time a certain set of circumstances prevail. Conscious self -denial of something can often increase the desire for that very thing, and eating a little less than we need, but eating anything we want, can actually lead to weight loss.
WHAT ABOUT DIETING? Cutting out favorite foods completely is a bad idea, but DOWN on those foods is achievable and sustainable! CUTTING Everyone knows that eating less and exercising more will lead to a better body -shape, improved fitness and all -round health. This program employs a virtual gastric band and other mind management techniques, and is most decidedly NOT a diet. It enables you to form new habits that you can maintain; there is no deprivation and you are liberated from having to think about food all the time. You eat consciously, and are able to listen to what your stomach is telling you. The result is steady, progressive weight loss without dieting!
VIRTUAL GASTRIC BAND PROGRAM The program is conducted over a four week period (for group sessions). The four one -hour sessions are designed to bring about a permanent change in your eating habits and focuses on the person that you want to be. IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A SHORT TERM FIX! Creating new habits to get you where you want to be and to enable you to remain there will generally take 28 days. Your program includes a support CD which you are asked to listen to each day, which will reinforce the new messages that will bring about You receive a CD at the end of the program, targeting the encouragement of exercise.
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM The average expected weight loss is about 7 pounds the first week and 1-2 pounds a week afterward. Would you be happy loosing 1-2 pounds a week without dieting? This is NOT a diet but through hypnosis you are empowered to eat smaller portions of anything you want. Although this all sounds really good, it is not guaranteed. Similarly, successful! The four session should bring about a permanent change in the way that you think about food, if at any point you feel it is necessary, you can receive top up sessions.
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM You are encouraged not to step on the scales everyday. If you wish to weigh yourself, do so once a week. This program is not about the scales but about you feeling good about yourself! You will know from week to week what has changed. Before the first session, you need to think about a few things: Why do you want to loose weight? How do you think life would be different if you were slimmer? Is it portion sizes or specific foods that are the problem?
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM Through hypnosis: You will have a gastric band put in place. You will be encouraged to eat 3 small meals a day You will be encouraged to drink water You will be encouraged to do 30 minutes of exercise a day I will help you avoid foods that you consider to be your weakness You will begin to envision yourself as a healthier, stronger, lighter you! slimmer you. This is a very powerful psychological technique called life you really want, then behave in a way that you already have it! You will listen to the CD at least once a day (more if possible!) over the next 28 days.
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM The CD utilizes a multitude of the latest mind management techniques and is a very important part of our work. The CD will create new neural pathways in your brain relating to your associations and attitudes towards food. You will learn to enjoy every mouthful of food but slow your eating down and not eat in front of the television or while reading as you will not be conscious of what you are eating. Sit and focus purely on the food in front of you. Drink plenty of fluids and choose only low calorie liquids.
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM It is very important element of the virtual gastric band program that you take some form of exercise for 30 minutes a day. This can be as simple as going for a walk. As you will be eating less than your body needs to function, it has to make up the difference by burning reserves. Exercise will communicate to your body that you want to use your muscles and force it to burn the fat instead. Walk, skip, and dance around the house! If you are a diabetic, this program can still be effective for you but you need to monitor your blood sugar levels carefully as you may need to adjust insulin or other diabetes medications.
THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM You will learn to deal with head hunger. Through this program, you will frequently have to be your own support. To do so requires that you take some ownership of the process. In other words, make this YOUR weight loss program; your journey and take pride in what you are doing and revel in each goal achieved! Outline your strengths and weaknesses, and what you are going to do about those weaknesses. For example, if you have a weakness for chocolate, try not to allow any in the house! Reward yourself for the small goals you reach! Why not treat yourself to something for every 7 lbs. you loose.
