2 Cancellation and Interruption Insurance WHAT IS CANCELLATION, INTERRUPTION AND DELAY COVERAGE? Pre-Departure Trip Cancellation Coverage and Benefits If you are prevented from taking your Trip for one of the covered reasons, we will reimburse you, up to the amount in the Schedule, for the amount of prepaid, forfeited, non-refundable Payments or Deposits that you paid for your Trip. We will pay your additional cost as a result of a change in the per person occupancy rate for prepaid travel arrangements if a Traveling Companion s Covered Trip is canceled and your Covered Trip is not canceled. Post Departure Trip Interruption Coverage and Benefits If you are delayed beyond the Scheduled Departure Date or are unable to continue your Trip for one of the covered reasons, we will reimburse you, less any refund paid or payable, for unused land or water travel arrangements, plus the following additional transportation expenses: The additional transportation expenses by the most direct route from the point you interrupted your Covered Trip: a) to the next scheduled destination where you can catch up to your Covered Trip; or b) to the Scheduled Departure City of your Covered Trip. However, the benefit payable above will not exceed the cost of a one-way economy airfare (or first class, if the original tickets were first class) by the most direct route less any refunds paid or payable for your unused original tickets. Missed Connection Schedule Change (RBC TravelProtector Deluxe & RBC TravelProtector Preferred only) Note: a) above, also includes your missed connection caused by the schedule change of the airline that is providing transportation for a portion of your travels. Reimbursement is for the lesser of the change fee charged by the airline when such an option is available to you, or for the extra cost of your one-way economy air fare via the most cost effective route to your next destination (in- and outbound) up to $1,000 maximum. Schedule change means the later departure of an airline carrier causing you to miss your next connecting flight via another airline carrier (or connecting cruise ship, bus or train), or the earlier departure of an airline carrier rendering unusable the ticket you have purchased for your prior connector flight via another airline carrier (or connecting cruise ship, bus or train). Schedule change does not mean a change resulting from a travel supplier s Financial Insolvency, strike or a labor disruption. Return of Vehicle We will also reimburse you for the cost incurred, up to $1,000 to drive or transport your Covered Vehicle to your home if: 1) you are using your Covered Vehicle on the Covered Trip; 2) the Covered Vehicle is with you at the place where the Covered Trip is interrupted; 3) the place where the Covered Trip is interrupted is 100 miles or more away from your home, and 4) you are medically unable to drive home. Travel Delay Coverage and Benefits If your Trip is delayed for 6 hours or more, we will reimburse you, up to the amount shown in the Schedule, for reasonable additional expenses incurred by you for lodging arrangements, meals, telephone calls and local transportation while you are delayed. We will not pay benefits for expenses incurred after travel becomes possible. Covered Reasons for Travel Delay Benefits Common Carrier delay; loss or theft of your passports, travel documents or money; quarantine; hijacking; natural disaster; inclement weather; a documented traffic Accident while you are en route to your destination; unannounced strike; civil disorder; your, your traveling Family Member s or your Traveling Companion s Sickness or Injury; your traveling Family Member s or Traveling Companion s death.

3 Covered Reasons for Cancellation and Interruption Coverages Sickness, Injury or Death Employment and Occupation Weather, Mechanical and Natural Disaster Covered Reason Deluxe Preferred Basic Trip Cancellation or delayed arrival at your destination due to Sickness, Injury or death of you, your Family Member, Traveling Companion or Business Partner that occurs before departure on your Trip. The Sickness or Injury must commence while coverage is in effect, require examination by a Physician, in person, at the time of Trip Cancellation or delay and, in the written opinion of the treating Physician, be so disabling as to prevent you from taking your Trip or delay your arrival on your Trip. Note: Sickness includes complications of pregnancy arising in the first 31 weeks of pregnancy. Trip Interruption due to Sickness, Injury or death of you, your Family Member, Traveling Companion or Business Partner. The Sickness or Injury must commence while you are on your Covered Trip, require examination by a Physician, in person, at the time of Trip Interruption and, in the written opinion of the treating Physician, be so disabling as to prevent you from continuing your Trip. Note: Sickness includes complication of pregnancy arising in the first 31 weeks. The Family Member who had arranged to provide Accommodation for the Insured during the Covered Trip at his/her residence can no longer provide Accommodation for the Insured due to the hosting Family Member s life threatening Sickness or life threatening Injury or death. A transfer of employment of 250 miles or more. Your involuntary termination of employment or layoff that occurs more than 15 days after your effective date of coverage and was not under your control. You must have been continuously employed with the same employer for 1 year prior to the termination or layoff. The Insured s or the Insured s Traveling Companion s approved, written military leave is involuntarily revoked as a result of being temporarily or permanently reassigned, being called to active military reserve or an extension of deployment beyond a defined tour of duty within 10 days of the Insured s departure date. All leave must be approved prior to the coverage effective date. Full or partial mobilization or mass reassignment of Armed Forces, invocation of the War Powers Act, base or unit mobilization is not covered. Mandatory evacuation or public official evacuation advisements issued by local government authorities at your final destination due to adverse weather or natural disaster. Your Accommodation at your destination is made uninhabitable by fire, flood, volcano, earthquake or other natural disaster. Being called into active military service in the event of a natural disaster. Your primary residence is made uninhabitable by fire, flood or natural disaster. Arrangements canceled by an airline, cruise line, motor coach company or tour operator, resulting from inclement weather, for transportation on which the Insured is scheduled to travel; or organized labor strikes that affect public transportation, subject to the following conditions: the scheduled carrier connecting times must meet airline required legal minimum connect times; and the scheduled time between arrival at the Scheduled Departure City and the scheduled Trip departure must be 6 hours or longer. Reimbursement is for the lesser of the following: change fee charged by the Common Carrier when such an option is available to you; or your non-refundable prepaid airfare that is not part of your cruise package up to $1,000; or the extra cost of your one-way economy airfare via the most costeffective route to return you to your departure point (applicable to Post Departure Trip Interruption coverage). Required to serve on a jury, or required by a court order to appear as a witness in a legal action. Receipt of court-issued notice to attend an Adoption Proceeding, provided the Insured is not attending as a condition of his/her employment and the person being adopted is not the Insured or the Insured s Traveling Companion or Family Member. The date of the scheduled Adoption Proceeding must be no more than 3 days prior to the Scheduled Departure Date. Being directly involved in a documented traffic Accident while en route to departure. Being hijacked or quarantined. Arrangements canceled by a tour operator, cruise line or airline resulting from Financial Insolvency (subject to your premium payment being received within 15 days of the initial Payment or Deposit for your Covered Trip; day one means the date the initial Payment or Deposit is received). Note: A list of travel suppliers for which we will not provide coverage is available by calling our toll-free number at or visiting our website at A documented theft of passports or visas. A Terrorist Act which occurs in your departure city or in a city which is a scheduled destination for your Covered Trip provided: the Terrorist Act occurs within 30 days of the Scheduled Departure Date for your Covered Trip. The primary or secondary school where the Insured or the Insured s Family Member or Traveling Companion attends must extend its operating session beyond its predefined school year due to unforeseeable events commencing during the Policy effective period, which causes the extension of the predefined school year, and the Scheduled Departure Date falls within the period of the school year extension. Extensions due to extra-curricular or athletic events are not covered. Enjoy your trip knowing you re protected.

5 Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion The following exclusion applies to all coverages except Baggage Delay, Baggage and Personal Effects, and Rental Car Damage: We will not pay for loss or expense caused by or incurred resulting from a Pre-Existing Condition, including death that results therefrom. Pre-Existing Condition means an illness, disease or other condition during the 90-day period immediately prior to your effective date for which you or your Traveling Companion or Family Member who is scheduled or booked to travel with you: 1. received, or received a recommendation for, a diagnostic test, examination or medical treatment; or 2. took or received prescription drugs or medicine. Item 2 of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 90-day period before coverage is in effect under the Policy. Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver The Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion will be waived provided you meet all of the following: 1. the payment for this plan is received within 15 days of the initial Payment or Deposit for your Covered Trip; and 2. you are not disabled from travel at the time you make your plan payment; and 3. the booking for the Covered Trip must be the first and only booking for this travel period and destination; and 4. the Covered Trip cost per person is no more than $50,000 under RBC TravelProtector Deluxe; $30,000 under RBC TravelProtector Preferred and $20,000 under RBC TravelProtector Basic. Your Satisfaction Is Important To Us If you are not satisfied for any reason, you may cancel your coverage within 10 days of your application date or receipt of this document, whichever is later. A letter indicating your desire to cancel should be sent to our authorized agent. If you haven t already left on your Trip, and/or provided there has been no incurred covered expense, you will receive a full refund of your plan cost.
