11 CONCEPTS OF COMPREHENSION: Classify & Categorize 3rd GRADE UNIT Reading Passage 'Tis the Season Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa are three important holidays. Hanukkah oftentimes starts in December. However, sometimes it starts in November, like in 2013 when the holiday began on November 27 th. Christmas is celebrated on December 25 th while Kwanzaa begins one day later on December 26 th. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday also known as the Festival of Lights. The holiday lasts eight days. The Hebrew word hanukkah means "dedication 1." Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. The word Christmas comes from old English words that mean "mass of Christ."
