3 Executives of the Month Toka Hussein November Executive of the Month She is the Senior Parliamentarian and she serves as the CSA Coordinator. Because of her immunity to senioritis, she continuously volunteers to help out in any way that she can and dedicates countless hours in making sure that CSA is running smoothly. With CSA in the efficient hands of Toka, many exciting events are in store! This year was the first year that we did the button fundraiser. The button fundraiser was a huge success! Not only did it raise a lot of money for the senior class, but it also raised school spirit. There were a variety of buttons including major specific buttons and BTHS buttons. Since this year s senior class didn t having major t-shirts, we took the winning designs from last year and put them on buttons as well! Although we stopped selling buttons earlier this year, they definitely have not gone away. Keep your eyes open for the comeback of the buttons! Faraha Mamun December Executive of the Month She is the Sophomore Parliamentarian and she serves as the Student Leadership Coordinator. She is enthusiastic about everything that she does, and constantly comes up with innovative ideas to make sure that everyone is on task and having fun. This year, I have taken a more active role in SGO and I have been putting more thought into my actions. As a member of CSA, I have taken the initiative and have gone to all meetings pertaining to the talent show since it is a very important event for the Tech student body. I have also been participating in other school activities, such as the high school fair, the freshmen survey, and flowers for favorites! Fanny Li January Executive of the Month She is the Sophomore Treasurer and she serves on COMMA (Committee of Money Management and Allocation). She has made a mark in Student Government with her leadership skills and innovative ideas. By continuously taking the initiative, she has helped start new projects and various proposals to increase student engagement. She also has a skill with cards, having designed the Flower For Favorite cards this year as well as coming up with the idea of raising school spirit by making and passing compliment cards around the school. Something I am really proud of this year is the compliment cards. The Compliment Cards are basically what the name implies: cards with compliments. This will be given out on a random day. The purpose of these cards is to raise self-esteem and create a more friendly environment for the students. I think this is a great way to get smiles out of people, especially from those who are stressed. Page 3

4 The SGO Webmaster Student Government Organization (SGO) Webmaster Asif Mahmud Class of 2014 Law and Society My name is Asif Mahmud and I am the SGO Webmaster. It was a position drafted in the latter half of I served as Junior Class President in the year of 2013 and my main concern at that time was the issue of communication. Tech is a large school and it is my intention to make the environment we have come to be a part of a little more interconnected each day. An SGO Webmaster is the manager of a website, the student government website in this case. Although the website has been created, it has been difficult trying to figure out ways to have it be more used by the students. It is my goal this year, before I end my time here, to actually create something that can be of use to Tech students and the student government. I will try my best to create a website that will actually be used by the students and set a precedent for the SGO that will have us enter a digital era of communications. That is my goal. Page 4

5 Two Branches of SGO Student Leadership and Student Assembly Student Leadership Coordinator: Faraha Mamun Student Leadership Secretary: Eileen Cruz This branch of SGO meets every other Wednesday in room 2N8 after 9th period. Be sure to check it out! Here s a message from Eileen Cruz, Student Leadership Secretary: Student Leadership is just beginning going in depth with its lessons about the necessary qualities of a leader. We began the year by asking members what they felt a leader was, and what they wanted to learn about becoming a leader. By making future lessons revolve around these topics discussed, we hope to efficiently incorporate members' ideas. Student leadership is also putting much importance on group work. This, we plan, will allow us to build leaders who won't completely dominate others, but can work effectively as a team. Student Assembly Coordinator: Infither Chowdhury This branch of SGO holds monthly meetings in the William L. Mack Library after 9th period. Here s a message from Infither Chowdhury, the Student Advocate: Government is all about hearing the voice of the people. Student Assembly is this voice the voice of the Brooklyn Technical High School student body. Students can come to Student Assembly meetings and bring up concerns and issues they have which are heard by SGO Executives. The Executives answer questions and try to give solutions to issues if they exist. If there is no solution, the Executives and students work on proposals to create change in Tech. Currently we are working on a Bathroom Policy, to create more sanitary and comfortable conditions in Tech bathrooms. Come check us out! If you want to attend a meeting, Infither Chowdhury, the Coordinator of Student Assembly, at Page 5
