1 KEY STAGE 3 HISTORY At Dagenham Park Church of England School the History Department offer lessons that are stimulating, engaging and imaginative and which aim to promote a lifelong interest in all aspects of the subject as well as preparing pupils for GCSE courses in KS4. Pupils are encouraged to examine historical sources and investigate issues of historical debate. They are given regular homework and are encouraged to undertake further individual study. Assessments are made at the end of each section of work to show pupils progression. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on their progress and they act on identified areas to further promote achievement. Key historical concepts and topics investigated in KS3 History include: significance of historical events and developments emergence of British values and traditions understanding and use of historical interpretations change and continuity cause and effect similarity and difference ancient Rome and its legacy conquest feudalism and sovereignty castles and control church and religion in society Crusades Magna Carta and the development of Parliament Medieval society and groups within it disease and its impact Reformation, Counter-Reformation and religious settlement impact of the Tudors constitutional crisis and civil war Cromwell s legacy and constitutional settlement KEY STAGE 4 HISTORY At Dagenham Park Church of England School we provide imaginative and stimulating lessons in KS4 that aim to promote a love for the subject, alongside preparing students for their exams and serving as a basis for further study in the Sixth Form and in Higher Education. KS4 at Dagenham Park Church of England School covers Years 9 through to 11

2 and prepares for the GCSE History exam. A wide range of topics are covered offering students a range of insights into the past. Students are encouraged to become independent learners and to undertake relevant research around the subject. Students are tested regularly throughout the course and receive termly graded assessments to monitor progress, to focus an immediate student response and to target intervention to enhance progression. Mock Exams are held to prepare students for the linear exams at the end of Year 11. Additional support and intervention classes and resources are used to help students. After School Revision/Catch-up Activities Open Door access is available daily in rooms 208 and 209 from 8.00 a.m. and in room 207 daily from 3.00 p.m. Open door access meets students individual learning requirements. Targeted Intervention Sessions are held in room 208 every Tuesday from 3.00 p.m. and are focused on enhancing students key skills and understanding.
