1 DESCRIPTI is a PWM power ED driver IC. The driving curren from few milliamps up o 1.5A. I allows high brighness power ED operaing a high efficiency from 4Vdc o 40Vdc. 4 APPICATI INFORMATI ow Volage DC/DC Applicaion The was designed for power ED driving applicaion. Only 5 exernal componens were required for low volage applicaion. Fig.1 shows he ypical applicaion circui for inpu volage range from 4V o 40V. Buck power conversion opology was used and oal forward volage (a expecing curren) of he ED sring should lower han supply volage by 1.6V a leas. 4V~40V C IN D F C T Inpu Bypass Capacior The inpu by-pass capacior C IN holds he inpu volage and filers ou he swiching noise of. Flywheel Diode The fas recovery diode was recommended for flywheel diode D F. This is because he high reverse recovery curren will cause he volage drop across being higher han 330mV, and consequenly he swich will be urned off which has jus been urned on. ED Driving Curren The peak curren I PK flow hough EDs was decided by: 330mV I PK The average curren on EDs was deermined by he peak-o-peak ripple curren ha was decided by inducor. Assume he arge average curren 550mA on EDs and ripple curren 100mA hen he should be: 330mV 0. 5 Inducor The Inducor sores energy during swich urn-on period and discharge driving curren o EDs via flywheel diode while swich urn-off. In order o reduce he curren ripple on EDs, he value should high enough o keep he sysem working a coninuous-conducion mode ha inducor curren won fall o zero.
