18 Interdisciplinary approach Interdisciplinary teaching is an established policy within the institutional project. The pedagogical model gives meaning and significance to the following policy: the pursuit of knowledge integration and interdisciplinary work which creates dynamism in a system that integrates the logic of science and knowledge with the logic of the profession. In a more concrete way, the interdisciplinarity guides the curriculum design and updating through interaction, dialogue and reflection amongst teachers to shape academic communities. In the EIA curriculum, interdisciplinarity is manifested in the ability of teachers and students to solve complex problems with the contribution from several disciplines and productive interaction between members of the educational community, of whom participate in engineering projects, extension projects and research, electives, special projects semester and final degree project, all which count on the assistance of professionals from various fields.

19 Flexibility Flexibility is addressed as a curricular, pedagogical and didactic strategy to enable students to adapt and integrate to the learning process according to their interests, needs and expectations IN tandem to their academic strengths and weaknesses and learning. In the Industrial Engineering program flexibility is conceived from multiple dimensions such as thematic flexibility in credits, special projects and possibilities to take a second simultaneous or double degree program. Research and research formation In the program, research is galvanized through the Management, Productivity and Competitiveness - GPC a research group composed of faculty, students, alumni and industry experts. The lines of research in the group aim to develop productivity using strategically selected projects to; contribute to the improvement of the industry, enhance research within the program on national and international environments and contribute to the institution s objectives. As leaders of research projects, professors/teachers will lend the experience and expertise they have in the areas of innovation service and industry development knowledge.

20 Research activity has been strengthened in the program thanks to the active participation of GPC in Tecnova organized business programs. Tecnova is a corporation that was born under the University Committee - Company-State framework. In 2012 Tecnova awarded the group for its contribution to research and ongoing activity. The EIA gives the option to all students to participate in study groups, these groups are not affiliated to one program only but they are related to a research group and students, graduates, employees and teachers/professors can participate. The study group Productivity is the closest to the research group GPC and program. Participation in a study group is a noncredit academic elective activity, its on-goings have the potential to be approved by a subject elective to encourage research culture in students. Entrepreneurship The EIA Industrial Engineering program has benefited from the entrepreneurial management model and innovation led by clear distinctive elements that recognize the institutional history. It aims to present itself as a good choice for students and as a platform to drive high-tech innovation and entrepreneurship and social impact based on the following strategies: the strengthening of high impact entrepreneurial skills, meeting points for inventors, researchers

21 and entrepreneurs to meet and share motivations in order to start projects of different scopes, examples of spin off comprised of EIA teachers/professors, participation in the transfer of technology and entrepreneurial area offices networks of the accredited universities in the region that comprise the G8 group. Extension and social interaction of the program In the program, the function of extension is based on the principles of social projection, relevance and strategic management being revitalized through teaching and research as they encourage the promotion and development of the subject area. One of the ways extension is established within the program is through continuing education courses, special certificates, seminars and conferences to give updated knowledge on topics such as: Operations management and logistics, purchasing and international supplies, upper management, integrated logistics, supply chain management with the use of simulation tools, among others. The program promotes the participation of teachers, students and graduates in work network for the realization of different projects in the following entities:
