Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions These instructions will help you to gather the information we at Reece Irrigation will require to quote for your irrigation system. There are three things we need you to do for us: 1. Determine the water meter size so that we can select the appropriate products based on the volume of water available. 2. Conduct a flow test so we can validate what the water pressure is like at your place. 3. Collect some dimensions of your property Irrigation Planner Disclaimer The accuracy of the supplied quote/plan is dependent upon the accuracy of the drawing and information provided. Reece will not be liable for any errors due to incorrect drawings or specifications. All dimensions and levels on site should be verified prior to any commencement of irrigation works. If any discrepancies are found, bring these immediately to the attention of the Irrigation Designer. The customer takes responsibility for investigating and understanding the current water restrictions and any other state, federal and/or other requirements that may apply to your local area when making selections. Reece will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury arising directly or indirectly from use of the planner and/or the reliance by any party on information obtained from Reece. The use of the irrigation planner tool is subject to the terms and conditions found on
1. Determine the water meter size Please complete the below information even if you with to use a tank as your irrigation water source, as mains is often required to suppliment the water supply. The size of your water meter determines how much water and available pressure the Reece Irrigation Designer will have to construct an irrigation system that will suit your needs. Should the water metre be unavailable (i.e. large water meter, site is yet to be constructed) to size and perform the subsequent flow test, then simply determine the proposed water meter for the project. The design team will then estimate the flow rate and pressure. When the project proceeds, this estimate should be confirmed prior to installation of the system to ensure the system operates as the Reece Irrigation Designer had intended. The water meter will often have the size stamped on to it. If you are unable to locate the size use the following method to determine the size. What you require: a piece of string about 20cm long pen and paper to write down the results your water meter ruler To determine the size of your water meter, you will need to find the water supply pipe at the water meter and measure its circumference. Find the location where your water supply pipe enters the water meter. Strip away any insulation, so you can get at the pipe and wrap the string around it. Wrap the string around the pipe once, this length will be the circumference of the pipe, mark the string with a pen and measure against a ruler. Use the table below to convert the string length to approximate likely meter size: Meter Size (mm) Approximate String Length Size of Copper Pipe Size of Galvanized Pipe Size of Poly Pipe Copper Pipe: A smooth metal pipe reddish brown in color. Galvanized: Grey colored metal pipe, can develop rust over time (may be wrapped in protective tape) Poly: Black plastic with blue stripe. Your string length will vary a little, depending on such unavoidable variables as string stretch, dirt on pipe, manufacturing tolerance, etc. Approximate String Length = Therefore, Water Meter size = Water meter Pipe Type = Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 2
2. Flow Test By conducting a flow test, we can then work out exactly how much usable water (in litres per minute) you have available for your irrigation system. Please complete the flow test even if you wish to use a tank as your irrigation water source, as mains is often required to supplement the water supply. What you require: a 10 litre bucket OR other known container size a stop watch an outdoor tap or outlet pen and paper to write down the results To conduct a flow test, you need to: 1. Remove all associated hose and tap fittings. 2. Determine the size (litres) of the container you are about to fill up. (eg. 10 litre bucket) 3. Open the garden tap that you plan to connect your system to all the way open. 4. Once the tap is fully open place the bucket underneath the tap. 5. Time how many seconds it takes to fill the bucket to the top. 6. Write down the results 7. Repeat steps one to five if you have a second tap that will be part of your system (e.g front, back, side or other location). Results First tap = seconds to fill my litre bucket/container Second tap = seconds to fill my litre bucket/container Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 3
3. Collect dimensions of your property There are some measurements we need you to provide when you draw your site in the Irrigation Planner tool. These measurements will help us to provide you with an irrigation plan that meets your needs. Use the included graph paper to document your dimensions. Note, it does not have to be to scale until you reach the online planner. STEP metres 7.95 metres metres Draw the outline of your home, buildings or solid structures. Use simple lines. Include the associated distance of each line you draw. We have started this example with the house that generally would have 90 degree angles which the user can work from and build their drawing from affixed point. This will assist with improving the accuracy of other items such as fence line boundary, garden beds and lawn areas metres 4.05 metres.70 metres Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 4
3. Collect dimensions of your property (cont) STEP 2 Draw the boundary of your site metres Draw straight lines off each angle of your home, building or solid structure to the boundary and notate the distance of each line metres Note the reference lines determining the distance from the fixed structure (house) to the boundary line (fence line). These markings will allow the user to establish the correct placement of the building with the property boundary line (in this example the fence line).these can be deleted from within the online planner after the dashed lines have been confirmed metres metres Dashed lines represent the alignment of the outer perimeter and can be made more exact within the online planner metres 4.05 metres.70 metres 9.10 metres 7.35 metres.40 metres DRIVEWAY 9.80 metres NATURE STRIP 1.45 metres Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 5
3. Collect dimensions of your property (cont) STEP 3 Draw other fixed structures 9.20 metres For any fixed structure such as a pool, shed, garage or paved area, take measurements off the main outline drawn in step one. Draw the outline of the fixed structure. Include the associated distance of each line you draw metres Label the outlined fixed structure eg. Pool metres metres 3.90 metres 4.05 metres.70 metres 9.10 metres 9.80 metres 7.35 metres DRIVEWAY.40 metres NATURE STRIP 1.45 metres Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 6
3. Collect dimensions of your property (cont) STEP 4 Draw areas to be irrigated metres GARDEN BED 9.20 metres For any areas to be irrigated, take measurements off the main outline as per step 1. Consider: GRASS 7.95 metres - lawn - trees - garden bed - drought tolerant plants - vegetable garden - thirsty plants For trees note the width of the widest point of the tree such as the tree top/ canopy. Draw the outline of the areas to be irrigated metres HOUSE metres Label the outlined areas to be irrigated eg. Garden bed metres 4.05 metres GRASS.70 metres 9.10 metres 9.80 metres 7.35 metres.40 metres 4.75 metres GARDEN BED DRIVEWAY NATURE STRIP 1.45 metres Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 7
3. Collect dimensions of your property (cont) STEP metres GARDEN BED 9.20 metres GRASS 7.95 metres Draw your water sources and best place for an automatic timer. Draw the location of any of the following: - bore water - north symbol - tanks - taps - water meter - external power point. This is required if you have an automatic timer metres HOUSE metres CONTROL UNIT LOCATION 3.90 metres 4.05 metres GRASS.70 metres 9.10 metres 7.35 metres GARDEN BED 4.75 metres 9.80 metres DRIVEWAY WATER METER.40 metres NATURE STRIP 1.45 metres You re finished! You can now begin entering your information into the Reece Online Irrigation Planner. Please also find below some graph paper you can use which may assist in keeping your lines straight for this initial rough drawing. Reece Irrigation Planner Instructions 8
