See Home Site ata (page E-13) for more information. Hour : Seconds Setting the Time and ate This watch is preset with differentia vaues that represent each time zone around the gobe. Before setting the time, be sure to set the differentia for your Home Site first, which is the ocation where you normay wi be using the watch. Note that Word Time Mode times (page E-21) are a dispayed based on the time and date settings you configure in the Timekeeping Mode. To set the time and date Seconds 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the seconds start to fash, which indicates the setting Be sure to configure the correct differentia for your Home Site before configuring any other Timekeeping Mode settings. Press A twice to exit the setting The day of the week is dispayed automaticay in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. E-11 To togge between 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping In the Timekeeping Mode, press to togge between 12-hour timekeeping and 24- hour timekeeping. With the 12-hour format, the P (PM) indicator appears to the eft of the hour digits for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears to the eft of the hour digits for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 24-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without any indicator. The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Timekeeping Mode is appied in a other modes. ayight Saving Time (ST) Setting ayight Saving Time (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from Standard Time. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use ayight Saving Time. E-12 To togge the Timekeeping Mode time between ST and Standard Time 1.In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the On/Off status seconds start to fash, which indicates the setting 2. Press C once and the ST setting screen appears. 3. Press to togge between ayight Saving Time ( dispayed) and Standard Time ( dispayed). 4. Press A twice to exit the setting The ST indicator appears on the Timekeeping, and Tide/Moon ata screens to indicate that ayight Saving ST indicator Time is turned on. In the case of the Tide/Moon ata Mode, the ST indicator appears on the Tide ata screen ony. Home Site ata Moon age, tide graph data, and Tide/Moon ata Mode data wi not be dispayed propery uness Home Site data ( differentia, ongitude and unitida interva) is configured correcty. E-13 The unitida interva is the time eapsing between the Moon s transit over a meridian and the next high tide at that meridian. See Lunitida Interva (page E-43) for more information. This watch dispays unitida intervas in terms of hours and minutes. The Site/Lunitida Interva ata List at the back of this manua provides differentia and ongitude information around the word. The foowing is the initia factory defaut Home Site data (Tokyo, Japan) when you first purchase the watch and whenever you have the battery repaced. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the Longitude (East/West) seconds start to fash, which indicates the setting 2. Press C twice to dispay the differentia setting screen, and confirm that the setting is correct. If the differentia setting is not correct, use (+) and B ( ) to change it. 3. Tide/Moon ata Tide graph Month ay Time Tide/Moon data ets you view the moon age for a particuar date, and tida movements for a particuar date and time for your Home Site. When you enter the Tide/Moon ata Mode, the data for 6:00 a.m. on the current date appears first. If you suspect that the Tide/Moon data is not correct for some reason, check the Timekeeping Mode data (current time, date, and Home Site settings), and make changes as required. See Tide Graph (page E-42) for information about the tide graph. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Tide/Moon ata Mode, which you enter by pressing C (page E-7). Use A to dispay either the Tide ata screen or the Moon ata E-20 Word Time code Current time in seected city Word Time shows the current time in 48 cities (29 time zones) around the word. The times kept in the Word Time Mode are synchronized with the time being kept in the Timekeeping Mode. If you fee that there is an error in any Word Time Mode time, check the differentia of your Home Site ata (Home ) and the current setting of the Timekeeping Mode time. Seect a city code in the Word Time Mode to dispay the current time in any particuar time zone around the gobe. See the ifferentia/ Code List at the back of this manua for information about the differentia settings that are supported. E-21 To view the time in another city Whie in the Word Time Mode, press (eastward) and B (westward) to scro through the city codes (time zones). To togge a city code time between Standard Time and ayight Saving Time 1. In the Word Time Mode, use and B to dispay the city code (time zone) whose Standard Time/ayight Saving Time setting you want to change. 2. Hod down A to togge between ayight Saving Time (ST indicator dispayed) and Standard Time (ST indicator not dispayed). The ST indicator is shown on the Word Time Mode screen whie ayight Saving Time is turned on. ST indicator Note that the ST/Standard Time setting affects ony the currenty dispayed city code. Other city codes are not affected. Stopwatch 1/100 second Hours Seconds The stopwatch ets you measure eapsed time, spit times, and two finishes. It aso incudes Auto-Start. The dispay range of the stopwatch is 23 hours, 59 minutes, seconds. The stopwatch continues to run, restarting from zero after it reaches its imit, unti you stop it. The stopwatch measurement operation continues even if you exit the Stopwatch Mode. Exiting the Stopwatch Mode whie a spit time is frozen on the dispay cears the spit time and returns to eapsed time measurement. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Stopwatch Mode, which you enter by pressing C (page E-7). About Auto-Start With Auto-Start, the watch performs a 5-second countdown, and stopwatch operation starts automaticay when the countdown reaches zero. uring the fina three seconds of the countdown, a beeper sounds with each second. To use Auto-Start 1. Whie the stopwatch screen is showing a zeros in the Stopwatch Mode, press B. This dispays a 5-second countdown To return to the a zeros screen, press B again. 2. Press to start the countdown. When the countdown reaches zero, a tone sounds and a stopwatch timing operation starts automaticay. Pressing whie the Auto-Start countdown is in progress wi start the stopwatch immediatey. E-25 Countdown Timer Hours Seconds E-26 You can set the countdown timer within a range of one minute to 24 hours. An aarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero. The countdown timer aso has an auto-repeat feature and a progress beeper that signas the progress of the countdown. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Countdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing C (page E-7). Configuring the Countdown Timer The foowing are the settings you shoud configure before actuay using the countdown timer. Countdown start time; Auto-repeat on/off; Progress beeper on/off See To configure the countdown timer (page E-29) for information about setting up the timer. Auto-repeat When auto-repeat is turned on, the countdown restarts automaticay from the countdown start time when it reaches zero. When auto-repeat is turned off, the countdown stops when it reaches zero and the dispay shows the origina countdown start time. Pressing whie an auto-repeat countdown is in progress pauses the current countdown. You can resume the auto-repeat countdown by pressing, or you can press A to reset to the countdown time starting vaue. Countdown Timer Beeper Operations The watch beeps at various times during a countdown so you can keep informed about the countdown status without ooking at the dispay. The foowing describes the types of beeper operations the watch performs during a countdown. E-27 Countdown End Beeper The countdown end beeper ets you know when the countdown reaches zero. When the progress beeper is turned off, the countdown end beeper sounds for about 10 seconds, or unti you press any button to stop it. When the progress beeper is turned on, the countdown end beeper sounds for about one second. Progress Beeper When the progress beeper is turned on, the watch uses beeps to signa countdown progress as described beow. Starting from five minutes before the end of the countdown, the watch emits four short beeps at the top of each countdown minute. 30 seconds before the end of the countdown, the watch emits four short beeps. The watch emits a short beep for each of the ast 10 seconds of the countdown. If the countdown start time is six minutes or greater, the watch emits a short beep for each second of the fina 10 seconds before the five-minute point is reached. Four short beeps are emitted to signa when the five-minute point is reached. E-28 To configure the countdown timer 1. Whie the countdown start time is on the dispay in the Countdown Timer Mode, hod down A unti the current countdown start time starts to fash, which indicates the setting If the countdown start time is not dispayed, use the procedure under To use the countdown timer (page E-31) to dispay it. 2. Press to togge the progress beeper on ( ) and off ( ). To use the countdown timer Press whie in the Countdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer. The countdown timer operation continues even if you exit the Countdown Timer Mode. Press whie a countdown operation is in progress to pause it. Press again to resume the countdown. To stop a countdown operation competey, first pause it (by pressing ), and then press B. This returns the countdown time to its starting vaue. To specify a countdown start time of 24 hours, set. 4. Press A to exit the setting You aso can perform steps 1 and 2 of the above procedure whenever you need to view the current auto-repeat and progress beeper settings. E-30 E-31 Aarms Aarm number Aarm date (Month ay) Aarm time (Hour : ) You can set up to three independent muti-function aarms with hour, minutes, month, and day. When an aarm is turned on, the aarm tone sounds when the aarm time is reached. One of the aarms is a snooze aarm, whie the other two are one-time aarms. You aso can turn on an Houry Time Signa that causes the watch to beep twice every hour on the hour. There are three aarm screens numbered and for the one-time aarm, a snooze aarm screen indicated by. The Houry Time Signa screen is indicated by. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Aarm Mode, which you enter by pressing C (page E-7). Aarm Types The aarm type is determined by the settings you make, as described beow. aiy aarm Set the hour and minutes for the aarm time. This type of setting causes the aarm to sound everyday at the time you set. ate aarm Set the month, day, hour and minutes for the aarm time. This type of setting causes the aarm to sound at the specific time, on the specific date you set. 1-Month aarm Set the month, hour and minutes for the aarm time. This type of setting causes the aarm to sound everyday at the time you set, ony during the month you set. Monthy aarm Set the day, hour and minutes for the aarm time. This type of setting causes the aarm to sound every month at the time you set, on the day you set. E-32 E-33 To set an aarm time 1. E-35 Aarm Operation The aarm tone sounds at the preset time for 10 seconds, regardess of the mode the watch is in. In the case of the snooze aarm, the aarm operation is performed a tota of seven times, every five minutes, unti you turn the aarm off (page E-37). Aarm and Houry Time Signa operations are performed in accordance with the Timekeeping Mode time. To stop the aarm tone after it starts to sound, press any button. In the Aarm Mode, use and B to seect the Houry Time Signa ( ). 2. Press A to togge it on and off. The Houry Time Signa on indicator is shown on the dispay in a modes whie this function is turned on. Houry time signa on indicator Iumination This watch has an EL (eectro-uminescent) pane that causes the entire dispay to gow for easy reading in the dark. See Iumination Precautions (page E-49) for other important information about using iumination. To iuminate the dispay In any mode, press L to turn on iumination. You can use the procedure beow to seect either 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds as the iumination duration. When you press L, the iumination wi remain on for about 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds, depending on the current iumination duration setting. E-38 E-39

Press A twice to exit the setting Reference This section contains more detaied and technica information about watch operation. It aso contains important precautions and notes about the various features and functions of this watch. Moon Age The Moon goes through a reguar day cyce. uring each cyce, the Moon appears to wax and wane as the reative positioning of the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun changes. The greater the anguar distance between the Moon and the Sun,* the more we see iuminated. * The ange to the Moon in reation to the direction at which the Sun is visibe from the Earth. This watch performs a rough cacuation of the current Moon age starting from day 0 of the moon age cyce. Since this watch performs cacuations using integer vaues ony (no fractions), the margin for error of the dispayed Moon age is ± 1 day. E-40 E-41 Tide Graph The Tide Graph has six graphic segments, each of which indicates a different tide eve. The current tide eve is indicated by the dispayed graphic segment. E-42 High Tide (Faing Tide) Low Tide (Rising Tide) Tida Movements Tides are the periodic rise and fa of the water of oceans, seas, bays, and other bodies of water caused mainy by the gravitationa interactions between the Earth, Moon and Sun. Tides rise and fa about every six hours. The tide graph of this watch indicates tida movement based on the Moon s transit over a meridian and the unitida interva. The unitida interva differs according to your current ocation, so you must specify a unitida interva in order to obtain the correct tide graph readings. The tide graph dispayed by this watch is based on the current Moon age. Remember that the margin for error of the Moon age dispayed by this watch is ± 1 day. The greater the error in a particuar Moon age, the greater the error in the resuting tide graph. Lunitida Interva Theoreticay, high tide is at the Moon s transit over the meridian and ow tide is about six hours ater. Actua high tide occurs somewhat ater, due to factors such as viscosity, friction, and underwater topography. Both the time differentia between the Moon s transit over the meridian unti high tide and the time differentia between the Moon s transit over the meridian unti ow tide are known as the unitida interva. When setting the unitida interva for this watch, use the time differentia between the Moon s transit over the meridian unti high tide. E-43 Graphic Area The information shown in the graphic area depends on the current mode. To turn Fash Aert on and off 1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hod down A unti the seconds start to fash, which indicates the setting 2. Press C eight times to dispay the Fash Aert setting 3. Press to togge Fash Aert on ( dispayed) and off ( dispayed). 4. Press A twice to exit the setting The Fash Aert setting you seect with the above procedure is appied in a modes. When Fash Aert is on, appears for about one second whenever you enter the Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, or Aarm Mode. E-45 Button Operation Tone E-46 The button operation tone sounds any time you press one of the watch s buttons. You can turn the button operation tone on or off as desired. Even if you turn off the button operation tone, the aarms, the Houry Time Signa, the countdown aarm, and stopwatch auto start a operate normay. To turn the button operation tone on and off Mute indicator In any mode (except when a setting screen is on the dispay), hod down C to togge the button operation tone on (mute indicator not dispayed) and off (mute indicator dispayed). Hoding down C to turn the button operation tone on or off aso causes the watch s current mode to change. The mute indicator is dispayed in a modes when the button operation tone is turned off. Auto Return Features If you eave the watch in the Aarm Mode or Tide/Moon ata Mode for two or three minutes without performing any operation, it changes to the Timekeeping Mode automaticay. If you eave a screen with fashing digits on the dispay for two or three minutes without performing any operation, the watch exits the setting screen automaticay. Scroing The B and buttons are used in various modes and setting screens to scro through data on the dispay. In most cases, hoding down these buttons during a scro operation scros at high speed. Initia Screens When you enter the Word Time or Aarm Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. E-47 The differentia is a vaue that indicates the time difference between a reference point in Greenwich, Engand and the time zone where a city is ocated. The etters is the abbreviation for Coordinated Universa Time, which is the word-wide scientific standard of timekeeping. It is based upon carefuy maintained atomic (cesium) cocks that keep time accuratey to within microseconds. Leap seconds are added or subtracted as necessary to keep in sync with the Earth s rotation. Timekeeping Resetting the seconds to whie the current count is in the range of 30 to 59 causes the minutes to be increased by 1. In the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are reset to without changing the minutes. The year can be set in the range of 2000 to The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced. E-48 Word Time The seconds count of the Word Time is synchronized with the seconds count of the Timekeeping Mode. A Word Time Mode times are cacuated from the current time in the Timekeeping Mode using time differentia vaues. Iumination Precautions The eectro-uminescent pane that provides iumination oses power after very ong use. Iumination may be hard to see when viewed under direct sunight. The watch may emit an audibe sound whenever the dispay is iuminated. This is due to vibration of the EL pane used for iumination, and does not indicate mafunction. Iumination turns off automaticay whenever an aarm sounds. Frequent use of iumination runs down the battery. E-49
