1 Process Analytics USA Customer Focus Page 1 of 6 Setting Maxum Daylight Saving Time Switch-over General On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Pub. L. no , 119 Stat 594 (2005). This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. Maxum Process Gas Chromatographs use the old formula for setting daylight saving time, and must be reset to use the new formula. This technical note and the attached Siemens Visual Procedure HTN002 will guide you through the process of setting daylight saving time and the dates for changeover in the Maxum Process Gas Chromatograph. The setting for DST can be modified using System Manager or at the HMI. How to set daylight saving time changeover dates (from the Workstation) Refer to Siemens Visual Procedure HTN002-WS Start your Maxum workstation Run Maxum System Manager. Double click on the icon of the instrument whose changeover date you wish to set. This will bring up the Maxum Process Gas Chromatograph database table editor. Select system tables. At the bottom of the list of system tables, you will see a table named System_Info. Double-click on the System_Info table to open it in the table editor. Figure 1: First record in System_Info Table The two fields you will need to edit are called daylighton and daylightoff. The entries below reflect the current settings. These are the attributes that need to be changed. Figure 2: Current contents of DST Changeover Fields The format for these fields is as follows: mm.w.d.o, where mm represents two digits corresponding to the month of changeover (03 for March, 11 for November); w represents one digit corresponding to the week number of the month in which changeover will occur (since changeover starts in the second week of March, this number should be 2 in the daylighton field; since daylight saving Time ends the first week of November, this number should be 1 in the daylightoff field); d represents one digit corresponding to the number of the day of the week on which changeover will occur (0 = Sunday, 1 = Monday, 2 = Tuesday, 3 = Wednesday, 4 = Thursday, 5 = Friday, 6 = Saturday), so this number should be zero in both fields;

The changeover is to occur, as a matter of law, at 0200, that is, two o'clock in the morning, local standard Time, so this number should be 120 in both fields. If you forget all of this, you can still see the help for the table editor, and it will tell you the same thing. The current contents of the fields are: For daylighton: , which means: 4 = April (Month 4) 1 = 1 st week 0 = Sunday 120 = 120 Minutes (2 hours past Midnight or 2:00 AM) For daylightoff: , which means: 10 = October (Month 10) 5 = 5th week 0 = Sunday 120 = 120 Minutes (2 hours past Midnight or 2:00 AM) Set the daylighton field. The new contents should be as follows: the daylighton field should contain the following sequence of numbers and dots: , which means: 3 = March (3 rd month); 2 = week 2; 0 = Sunday; 120 = 0200 (2:00 AM) local time. This will set daylight saving time to enter at two o'clock in the morning on the second Sunday of March, every year. DON T FORGET THE DOTS: they are very important. Click the pencil in the extreme left-hand column to commit the change to the database. Set the daylightoff field. The new contents should be as follows: the daylightoff field should contain the following sequence of numbers and dots: = November (11 th month); 1 = week 1 0 = Sunday 120 = 0200 (2:00 AM) local time. This will set daylight saving time to exit at two o'clock in the morning on the first Sunday of November, every year. DON T FORGET THE DOTS: they are very important.

The instrument is now set to change into and out of daylight saving time automatically according to the new law. How to set daylight saving time changeover dates (from the HMI) Refer to Siemens Visual Procedure HTN002-HMI From the configure menu select System Setup. Select 4 on the numeric keypad. A window will open up with the current settings highlighted.

You should see the changes made reflected in the value field of the item number selected. Select 5 on the numeric keypad. Change item 5 to Use the same keystrokes as you used to change item 4. Once this change is made, press Accept Change. You should see the changes made reflected in the value field of the item number selected. When completed, the display information should look like the following display.
