Supported time caibration signas: United States (Fort Coins), Engand (Rugby). Current Time Setting This watch adjusts its time setting automaticay in accordance with a time caibration signa. You can aso perform a manua procedure to set the time and date, when necessary. The first thing you shoud do after purchasing this watch is to specify your Home (the city where you normay wi use the watch). For more information, see To specify your Home. When using the watch outside the areas covered by the time signa transmitters, you wi have to adjust the current time setting manuay as required. See for more information about manua time settings. The U.S. time caibration signa can be picked up by the watch whie in North America. The term North America in this manua refers to the area that consists of Canada, the continenta United States, and Mexico. To specify your Home 1. In the Mode, hod down A unti the city code starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 2. Press (east) and B(west) to seect the city code you want to use as your Home. Time caibration signa reception is supported when any one of the city codes shown in the tabe beow is code seected as your Home. Under factory defaut settings, auto receive is turned off for a of the foowing city codes: HNL (Honouu), ANC (Anchorage), (Athens), and (Moscow). If you are in an area that does not use ayight (summertime), turn off the ST setting. Time Caibration Signa Reception There are two different methods you can use to receive the time caibration signa: auto receive and manua receive. Auto Receive With auto receive, the watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. For more information, see About Auto Receive. Manua Receive Manua receive ets you start a time caibration receive operation with the press of a button. For more information, see To perform manua receive. Important! When getting ready to receive the time caibration signa, position the watch as shown in the nearby iustration, with its 12 o'cock side facing towards a window. Make sure there are no meta objects nearby. 12 o cock Make sure the watch is facing the right way. Proper signa reception can be difficut or even impossibe under the conditions isted beow. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as 14 minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. 2 Signa reception may not be possibe at the distances noted beow during certain times of the year or day. Radio interference may aso cause probems with reception. Rugby (Engand) transmitter: 500 kiometers (310 mies) Fort Coins (United States) transmitter: 600 mies (1,000 kiometers) Even when the watch is within the reception range of the transmitter, signa reception wi be impossibe if the signa is bocked by mountains or other geoogica formations between the watch and signa source. Signa reception is affected by weather, atmospheric conditions, and seasona changes. See the information under Signa Reception Troubeshooting if you experience probems with time caibration signa reception. About Auto Receive The watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. The reception schedue (caibration times) depends on your currenty seected Home, and whether standard time or ayight is seected for your Home. Reception is not performed if a caibration time is reached whie you are configuring settings. Auto receive of the caibration signa is designed to be performed eary in the morning, whie you seep (provided that the Mode time is set correcty). Before going to bed for the night, remove the watch from your wrist, and put it in a ocation where it can receive the signa easiy. The watch receives the caibration signa for two to seven minutes everyday when the time in the Mode reaches each of the caibration times. Avoid performing any button operation within seven minutes before or after any one of the caibration times. oing so can interfere with correct caibration. Remember that reception of the caibration signa depends on the current time in the Mode. The receive operation wi be performed whenever the dispay shows any one of the caibration times, regardess of whether or not the dispayed time actuay is the correct time. Caibration signa reception is disabed whie a countdown timer operation is in About the Receiving Indicator The receiving indicator shows the strength of the caibration signa being received. For best reception, be sure to keep the watch in a ocation where signa strength is strongest. Weak (Leve 0) Strong (Leve 3) Receiving indicator Even in an area where signa strength is strong, it takes about 10 seconds for signa reception to stabiize enough for the receiving indicator to indicate signa strength. Use the receiving indicator as a guide for checking signa strength and for finding the best ocation for the watch during signa receive operations. Foowing reception of the time caibration signa and caibration of the watch s time setting, the Leve 3 receiving indicator wi remain on the dispay in a modes. The Leve 3 receiving indicator wi not be dispayed if signa reception was unsuccessfu or after you adjust the current time setting manuay. The Leve 3 receiving indicator is dispayed ony when the watch is abe to receive both time and date data successfuy. It does not appear when ony time data is received. The Leve 3 receiving indicator indicates that at east one of the auto caibration signa receive operations was successfu., however, that the Leve 3 receiving indicator is ceared from the dispay when the first auto receive operation of the day is performed. To perform manua receive 1. Pace the watch on a stabe surface so its top (12 o cock side) is facing towards a window. 2. In the Mode, hod down for about two seconds unti RC! appears on the dispay. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. After signa reception is compete, the dispay of the Receiving indicator watch changes to the Last Signa screen. To interrupt a receive operation and return to the Mode, press. If the receive operation is unsuccessfu, the message ERR appears on the dispay for about one or two minutes. After that, the watch returns to the Mode. You can aso change from the Last Signa or ERR screen to the norma timekeeping screen by pressing. Caibration signa reception is disabed whie a countdown timer operation is in To turn auto receive on and off 1. In the Mode, press to dispay the Last Signa screen. 2. Hod down A unti the receiving indicator and current auto receive setting ( or ) start to fash. This is the setting screen. that the setting screen wi not appear if the currenty seected Home is one that does not support time caibration reception. On/Off Status 3. To dispay the Last Signa screen In the Mode, press to dispay the Last Signa screen (indicated by GET). The Last Signa screen shows the date and time of the ast successfu time caibration signa reception. Probem Cannot perform manua receive. Auto receive is turned on, but the Leve 3 receiving indicator does not appear on the dispay. Time setting is incorrect foowing signa reception. Probabe Cause The watch is not in the Mode. Your current Home is not one of the foowing city codes: HNL, ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, EN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, YYT, LIS, LON, MA, PAR, ROM, BER, STO,, or. The countdown timer is running. You changed the time setting manuay. The watch was not in the or Word Time Mode, or you performed some button operation during the auto receive operation. Even if receive is successfu, the Leve 3 receiving indicator disappears every day when the first auto receive operation of the day is performed. Time data (hour, minutes, seconds) ony was received during the ast receive operation. The Leve 3 receiving indicator appears ony when time data and date data (year, month, day) are both received. If the time is one hour off, the ST setting may be incorrect. The Home code setting is not correct for the area where you are using the watch. What you shoud do Enter the Mode and try again. Seect HNL, ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, EN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, YYT, LIS, LON, MA, PAR, ROM, BER, STO,, or as your Home. the countdown timer and try again. Perform manua signa receive or wait unti the next auto signa receive operation is performed. Check to make sure the watch is in a ocation where it can receive the signa. Change the ST setting to Auto ST. Seect the correct Home code. For further information, see Important! under Time Caibration Signa Reception and Radio-controed Atomic Precautions. Word Time Mode time differentia code Current time in seected city The Word Time Mode shows you the current time in 48 cities (29 time zones) around the word. If the current time shown for a city is wrong, check your Home time settings and make the necessary changes. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Word Time Mode, which you enter by pressing C. To view the time in another city Whie in the Word Time Mode, press to scro eastward through the city codes (time zones). For fu information on city codes, see the Tabe. To togge a city code time between and ayight 1. In the Word Time Mode, use to dispay the city code ST indicator (time zone) whose /ayight setting you want to change. 2. Hod down A to togge ayight (ST indicator dispayed) and (ST indicator not dispayed). The ST indicator wi appear whenever you dispay a city code for which ayight is turned on. that the ST/ setting affects ony the currenty dispayed city code. Other city codes are not affected. 2

3 Countdown Timer Mode time You can set the countdown timer within a range of one to 60 minutes. An aarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Countdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing C. Aarm Operation The aarm sounds at the preset time for about 10 seconds (in a modes), or unti you stop it by pressing any button. To test the aarm In the Aarm Mode, hod down to sound the aarm. To turn the daiy aarm and the Houry Time Signa on and off In the Aarm Mode, press to cyce through the settings shown beow. Minutes Seconds To set the countdown start time 1. Whie the countdown start time is on the dispay in the Countdown Timer Mode, hod down A unti the current countdown start time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. If the countdown start time is not dispayed, use the procedure under To use the countdown timer to dispay it. 2. Whie a setting is fashing, use (+) and B ( ) to change it. 3. Press A to exit the setting screen.screen. To use the countdown timer Press whie in the Countdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer. When the end of the countdown is reached, the aarm sounds for 10 seconds or unti you stop it by pressing any button. The countdown time is reset automaticay to its starting vaue after the aarm stops. Press whie a countdown operation is in progress to pause it. Press again to resume the countdown. To stop a countdown operation competey, first pause it (by pressing ), and then press A. This returns the countdown time to its starting vaue. Caibration signa reception is disabed whie a countdown timer operation is in watch Mode time Minutes Seconds 1/100 seconds The stopwatch ets you measure eapsed time, spit times, and two finishes. The dispay range of the stopwatch is 59 minutes, seconds. The stopwatch continues to run, restarting from zero after it reaches its imit, unti you stop it. Exiting the watch Mode whie a spit time is frozen on the dispay cears the spit time and returns to eapsed time measurement. After you set (and turn on) the daiy aarm, the aarm tone sounds when the aarm time is reached. You can aso turn on an Houry Time Signa that causes the watch to beep for about one second every hour on the hour. In the Aarm Mode, hod down A unti the hour setting of the aarm time starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. This automaticay turns on the aarm. 2. Press C to move the fashing between the hour and minute settings. 3. Whie a setting is fashing, use (+) and B ( ) to change it. When setting the aarm time using the 12-hour format, take care to set the time correcty as a.m. (A indicator) or p.m. (P indicator). Use the Mode to set and view the current time and date. When setting the time, you can aso configure settings for the, the ST setting, the 12/24-Hour Format, Year, Month, ay, the Language setting, and the Month/ay dispay format, and you can specify the screens that are dispayed in the Mode. Pressing in the Mode wi dispay the Last Signa screen. Current Time and ate screen Last Signa Screen This watch is capabe of dispaying text for the day of the week in any one of 9 different anguages (Engish, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Itaian, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese). Setting the Time and ate Make sure you seect your Home code before you change the current time and date settings. Word Time Mode times are a dispayed in accordance with the Mode settings. Because of this, Word Time Mode times wi not be correct if you do not seect the proper Home code before setting the time and date in the Mode. To set the time and date code ST Month/ay ispay Format 1. In the Mode, hod down A unti the city code starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 2. 4 ayight (ST) ayight (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use ayight. The time caibration signas transmitted from Fort Coins (the United States) or Rugby (Engand) incudes both and ST data. When the Auto ST setting is turned on, the watch switches between and ST (summer time) automaticay in accordance with the received time signa. The defaut ST setting is Auto ST ( ) whenever you seect ANC, YVR, LAX, YEA, EN, MEX, YWG, CHI, MIA, YTO, NYC, YHZ, YYT, LIS, LON, MA, PAR, ROM, BER, STO,, or as your Home code. If you experience probems receiving the time caibration signa in your area, it probaby is best to switch between and ayight (summer time) manuay. To change the ayight (summer time) setting 1. In the Mode, hod down A unti the city code starts to fash, which indicates the setting screen. 2. Press C and the ST setting screen appears. 3. Use to cyce through the ST settings in the sequence shown beow. Auto ST ( ) ST off ( ) ST on ( ) 4. When the setting you want is seected, press A to exit the setting screen. The ST indicator appears to indicate that ayight is turned on. Reference This section contains more detaied and technica information about watch operation. It aso contains important precautions and notes about the various features and functions of this watch. Auto ispay Auto ispay continuay changes the contents of the digita dispay. To turn off Auto ispay Press any button to turn off Auto ispay. This returns to the Mode. To turn on Auto ispay In the Mode, whie hoding down B, hod down for about two seconds unti the watch beeps. Caibration signa reception is disabed whie Auto ispay is being performed. Auto ispay cannot be performed whie a setting screen is on the dispay. Button Operation Tone The button operation tone sounds any time you press one of the watch s buttons. You can turn the button operation tone on or off as desired. Even if you turn off the button operation tone, the aarm, Houry Time Signa, and Countdown Timer Mode aarm a operate normay. To turn the button operation tone on and off In any mode (except when a setting screen is on the MUTE indicator dispay), hod down C to togge the button operation tone on ( not dispayed) and off ( dispayed). Since the C button is aso the mode change button, hoding it down to turn the button operation tone on or off aso causes the watch s current mode to change. is dispayed in a modes when the button operation tone is turned off. Auto Return Features If you eave the watch with the Last Signa screen in the Mode for one or two minutes without performing any operation, it returns to the Current Time and ate screen in the Mode automaticay. If you eave the watch in the Aarm Mode for two or three minutes without performing any operation, it returns to the Mode automaticay. If you eave the watch with a fashing setting on the dispay for two or three minutes without performing any operation, the watch exits the setting screen automaticay. Scroing B and are used in various modes and setting screens to scro through data. In most cases, hoding down these buttons during a scro operation scros through the data at high speed. Initia Screens When you enter the Word Time or Aarm Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. Radio-controed Atomic Precautions The dispay of the watch is bank whie an auto receive operation is in Strong eectrostatic charge can resut in the wrong time being set. The time caibration signa is bounced off the ionosphere. Because of this, such factors as changes in the refectivity of the ionosphere, as we as movement of the ionosphere to higher atitudes due to seasona atmospheric changes or the time of day may change the reception range of the signa and make reception temporariy impossibe. Even if the time caibration signa is received propery, certain conditions can cause the time setting to be off by up to one second. The current time setting in accordance with the time caibration signa takes priority over any time settings you make. The watch is designed to update the date and day of the week automaticay for the period January 1, 2000 to ecember 31, Setting of the date by a time caibration signa cannot be performed starting from January 1, This watch can receive signas that differentiate between eap years and non-eap years. Though this watch is designed to receive both time data (hour, minutes, seconds) and date data (year, month, day), certain signa conditions can imit reception to time data ony. Normay, the signa reception date shown by the Receive Mode is the date data incuded in the received time caibration signa. When ony time data is received, however, the Receive Mode shows the date as kept in the Mode at the time of signa reception. If you are in an area where proper time caibration signa reception is impossibe, the watch keeps time within ±20 seconds a month at norma temperature. If you have probems with proper time caibration signa reception or if the time setting is wrong after signa reception, check your current city code, ST (summer time), and auto receive settings. The foowing are the initia factory defauts for these settings. In the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are reset to 00 without changing the minutes. The day of the week is dispayed automaticay in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. The year can be set in the range of 2000 to The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced. The times for the Mode and a the city codes of the Word Time Mode are cacuated in accordance with each city s differentia. The differentia is a vaue that indicates the time difference between a reference point in Greenwich, Engand and the time zone where a city is ocated. The etters is the abbreviation for Universa Time Coordinated, which is the word-wide scientific standard of timekeeping. It is based upon carefuy maintained atomic (cesium) cocks that keep time accuratey to within microseconds. Leap seconds are added or subtracted as necessary to keep in sync with the Earth s rotation. 12-hour/24-hour Formats The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Mode is aso appied in a other modes. With the 12-hour format, the PM indicator (P) appears on the dispay for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and AM indicator (A) appears for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 24-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without any indicator. Iumination This watch has an EL (eectro-uminescent) pane that causes the entire dispay to gow for easy reading in the dark. In any mode (except when a setting screen is on the dispay), press B to iuminate the dispay for about three seconds. Iumination Precautions The eectro-uminescent pane that provides iumination oses power after very ong use. Iumination may be hard to see when viewed under direct sunight. The watch may emit an audibe sound whenever the dispay is iuminated. This is due to vibration of the EL pane used for iumination, and does not indicate mafunction. Iumination automaticay turns off whenever an aarm sounds.
