In the initial phase: Logical path for IPv6 multicast from France to Asia using the M6bone Currently: IPv6 multicast native path between RAP-RENATER M6bone is used between RENATER and Asia Goal: IPv6 multicast native path between RAP-RENATER-GEANT2- TEIN2-WIDE

19 M6bone The M6Bone network : ( What is the M6Bone? An IPv6 Multicast test network M6Bone started in July 2001 (Aristote association, G6 and RENATER) 28 networks & 50 sites Goals To offer IPv6 Multicast connectivity to interested sites Test and develop soft and equipments related to IPv6 Multicast technologies Be active in IPv6 multicast standardization To deploy an advanced service on IPv6, in order to participate in the dissemination of the protocol

22 IPv6 mutlicast connectivity TEIN: IPv6 multicast is being activated GEANT : IPv6 multicast is a service since 2006 Embedded-RP is supported RENATER : IPv6 multicast is a service in RENATER since 2007 Embedded-RP is supported RAP : RAP is natively connected to RENATER in IPv6 multicast since end of 2006 Embedded-RP is supported UPMC : DVTS Sender is directly connected to RAP in IPv6 multicast

23 IPv6 multicast monitoring Monitoring of the connectivties between each partners in IPv6 multicast with dbeacon: Delay TTL Jitter Loss

24 IPv6 multicast evolutions The migration to an IPv6 multicast native path improves the performance: Initially using M6bone tunnels: Statistics in M6bone routers using DVTS ( 30Mbps) : CPU of M6bone routers using a tunnel: 35% MTU values less than 1450 to avoid fragmentation If value greater than 1450, the M6bone router crashes With native path: CPU of M6bone routers using a native path: 5%: Traffic doesn t cross the equipment CPU of RENATER routers crossed: 2% more when we send DVTS VDO Problems of MTU values related to the tunnel encapsulation are avoided, no probrem of fragmentation.
