Door decorating contest - teachers decorate their classroom door like a children s book. Classroom Guest reader - Guest readers from the community, Baker County Middle School athletes, volunteers, etc. Bring your favorite stuffed animal or blanket to read with Recommended Reading from Just Read Florida! So Much by Trish Cooke for infants and toddlers Pre-K and Kindergarten Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak Character Book Parade students dress like their favorite character and participate in the parade. Teachers bring their favorite book to read to the class.

Display a poster in the hallway stating the name of a book that the teacher is currently. Be a Super Sports Reader - Wear your favorite team attire! Feature favorite childhood books of local sports figures on the morning show. We re in the Mood to Read Dress in your groovy attire! Invite a guest speaker to read to class. January 28 Friday, January 29 Be a Royal Reader Come dressed as a king, queen, or a member of the royal family or Be a Super Reader and come dressed as a superhero! Make a Read Your Heart Out shirt and wear it to school Teachers read their favorite children s book to their class.

3 Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida Literacy Changes Our World Promoting literacy and good citizenship in our school and community. Westside Elementary School Activities CLW Civic/Community-Based Theme: Students will respond to writing Leading Up To prompts focused on Martin Luther King Jr. to be displayed during CLW CLW. Students will create Book Trailers to use on the Good Morning Show. Family Reading Night (FRN) will include a Photo Booth with props for students and families to take pictures with their favorite books. Pictures will be on display during CLW. Daily CLW Book Trailers (recommendations) on the Good Morning Show Activities Read- Alouds during lunch Library Book Count: Students will have the opportunity to guess how many books are in the media center Guess Who: Students will guess what teacher is behind his/her favorite book (pictures of teachers covering their face with their favorite book will be posted on outside Media Center walls) Monday, January 25 Million Minute Marathon- Classes will record and keep track of the number of minutes they read. Tuesday, January 26 Wednesday, January 27 January 28 Friday, January 29 Book Buddies- Buddy Up with another class and read together. Some classes will Skype buddy read with other classrooms in the district. R.E.A.Ch. Project- Community members will visit WES and read to students in their classrooms. Character Dress-Up Day: Students will come to school dressed as their favorite storybook character. Superintendent Raulerson reads to Westside Mrs. Sherrie Raulerson will read to students on the Good Morning Show. Read My Shirt Day Students will wear shirts that say something (words, sayings, titles of books) to promote reading and literacy! Library Book Count Winner Announced Guess Who teacher pictures revealed

Keller Intermediate School Monday- Jan 25 Tuesday- Jan 26 Wednesday- Jan 27 Thursday-Jan 28 Friday- Jan 29 Week long events: PAWS FOR READING- Dress as Tigers (school mascot), School Wide reading Challenge: Minute Marathon- Can we read for 15,000 minutes today? ARRR you reading? Pirate Day! Dress as Pirates. It s Crazy Not to Read!- Crazy Hair, Crazy Sock Day Get Lost in a Good Book- Camo day- Dress in your best Camo as you get lost in a good book. Favorite Book Character- Come to school dressed as a character in your favorite book. 1. Caught you reading- When a student is reading a book during his/her free time, give them a ticket to enter a drawing for a free book. 10 student winners 2. Class door decorations- Decorate your class door/window to represent a favorite book. The winning class will get a reward party. The winning teacher gets a gift card. 3. Top AR readers- For each class, the top AR earner for the week will be invited to a pizza party with the Media Specialist, Reading Coach, and Administration. 4. Bookmark Contest- Before CLW, the students will design a bookmark with the theme Literacy Changes Your World. The winning bookmark for each class will be color copied and distributed in the library during CLW. 5. Teachers will display an I am Reading Sign outside the classroom door.

Book Drive Kick-Off First period classes will compete for points to win a breakfast party from a local fast food restaurant by donating books and returning books that may belong to the school and have been lost at home. AR Competition Students wishing to participate will sign-up in the Media Center, check out a book, and earn at least 3 AR points for the associated quiz within the week. Students who meet this goal will earn a pizza party during their lunch time on Wed., Feb. 3. students the joy of reading. Wildcat Word Bingo We will play bingo with our school-wide vocabulary words from this year in the Media Center during lunch with mini-candy bars for our winners. students the joy of reading. Cornhole Competition Students will have the opportunity to play cornhole during lunch outside the cafeteria. They will earn a toss by defining a Wildcat Word.

8 BAKER COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL CONTINUED: Ongoing School-wide literacy activities include student participation in the Accelerated Reader program, contests amongst highest point earners in the form of team competition, teacher contests for highest percent of students who achieve goals, and weekly drawings for students who take and pass AR tests. The week before Celebrate Literacy, teachers and students will be given information about the classroom door competition for the door that best promotes Celebrate Literacy Week.
