Responsible for many educational and technical aspects of the department s broadcast journalism sequence. Accomplishments and responsibilities include: Creation of UWM PantherVision, a weekly television newscast produced by students in my television news reporting and television news management classes in conjunction with second year television and video production students at Milwaukee Area Technical College. The newscast is available to 300,000 Southeastern Wisconsin households on Time Warner s Higher Education Cable Consortium channel. It is also available on demand to Time Warner Cable digital subscribers from the Illinois border to Upper Michigan. Creation of the Broadcasting UWM, a student organization dedicated to giving students practical experience in broadcast media. Club members now produce two half hour television programs each week that air on a newly created student television station on campus cable. Members also produce live, play-by-play Internet coverage of UWM sporting events. Creation of UWM PantherCast, a weekly radio newscast produced by students in JMC 242: Radio News Reporting. The weekly newscast airs live on the UWM website. Teaching the sequence s capstone class, JMC 542: Television News Reporting. Creating and teaching JMC 642: Television News Management, to teach students television newscast producing and management, which is taught by few broadcast journalism departments. Creating and teaching a 100 level class carrying GER credit that, among other things, serves as a recruitment class for the broadcast journalism program. JMC 142: Television and Radio in American Society currently enrolls 240 students. Its predecessor enrolled a maximum of 50. Created and taught a freshman seminar for two semesters. Taught JMC 242: Radio News Preparation for six semesters.

Responsible for maintaining contact with professional radio and television stations in the area, including site visits for participating internship sponsors. Planning, coordinating, and executing the department s informational booth at the annual UWM Open House. Advisor to 57 undergraduate students. Taught Journalism 352: Television News Reporting at the University of Wisconsin- Madison and Mass Communication 242: Radio News Preparation as well as Mass Communication 542: Television News Preparation at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Responsibilities included supervision of the radio and television labs. In Madison, responsibilities also included serving as News Director for a student television newscast. Under my direction, students produced weekly half-hour newscasts, which were broadcast on Madison's cable system. Journalism Employment April 1987 to January 1996 Director of News Planning, WITI-TV, Milwaukee. Responsible for all aspects of the news operation, with particular emphasis on long-term projects. Assisted in preparation of newsroom budgets and policy development. Recruited, interviewed and selected 58 employees in a three month period, as WITI-TV became Wisconsin's largest broadcast news organization with its switch to the Fox Network in Responsibilities and accomplishments included: Advance development of all news series, documentaries and special projects. Assisting in newsroom budgeting and policy formation. Interpreting and implementing market research. Coordination of all out-of-town story coverage. Scheduling of all on-air talent and reporters. Coordination of all satellite feeds and oversight of the station's uplink truck. Coordination of spot news coverage, including the development of a breaking news coverage plan. Development, implementation and coordination of a statewide microwave network for daily story exchange.

3 Coordination of all continuing story coverage, including the Dahmer incident and trial, the Chippewa Indian spearfishing controversy, and the six-week abortion protests in Milwaukee in Served as broadcast pool coordinator for the 1992 Dahmer trial, working with court officials and law enforcement personnel to ensure 435 journalists would have access to the trial without jeopardizing security and courtroom decorum. Development, maintenance and operation of a computerized school-closing system with a database of nearly three-thousand institutions and an automatic interface to character generator for instantaneous air. Produced all election coverage, and was instrumental in the formation of the Wisconsin Election Service, a non-profit vote-gathering consortium consisting of the morning newspaper and the three Milwaukee television stations. Developed a system for computerized election returns with an automatic interface to character generator for instantaneous air. Conducted an exit poll of Milwaukee County in 1992, using a key precinct model pulled from voting records and SPSS for data analysis, predicting the outcome of the Milwaukee Mayor and County Executive races within one percentage point. Produced coverage of the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta and the Republican National Convention in New Orleans. Produced live statewide debates for the US Senate and Gubernatorial elections.
