Colossians 3:16 Worship Team Philosophy The Summit worship team follows the same philosophy as the Summit Church, Worship, Grow, Serve and Go. We WORSHIP with our voices, instruments, lives, money, and time. We GROW through practicing our craft and learning from others. We SERVE by ministering with our voices and instruments. We GO by serving others in different settings other then the church. We believe at the Summit that a life of worship is how we give glory to the one true and Holy God. Through our communion with the Holy Spirit, we believe worship is where breakthrough happens, healing occurs, bondages are broken and lives are made new. Corporate worship is a vital part of the Summit Church. It unifies us as a body of believers. Worship is powerful and the enemy of God flees when Jesus is lifted up. When we worship in song, we are not performing. It is not about us. We do it for none other than Jesus. That means we will worship with everything we have no matter how many are in attendance. The number of people in the congregation will not affect our energy or expression of how we worship. Even though the object of our worship is Jesus alone, we recognize that we do lead others in worship. It is important that we express our passion for Him and that we are never ashamed to show our worship through physical expressions (raising hands, dancing, smiling). The congregation will only go as far as we go in worship therefore, as leaders we must worship with everything that is within us. Objectives To be a team of passionate, Spirit led worship leaders used by the Lord to lead others into God s presence. To bring our best before for the Lord to honor him and to lead the congregation to see that He is our priority. To create the atmosphere in which the Spirit of God is invited to save, deliver, heal, and transform lives. To be saturated with the anointing of the Holy Spirit while ministering with excellence and in humility To make the worship experience a time of connection and communion with God, to draw ourselves nearer to Him so that He might draw near to us. 3 Pastor Bill is the senior pastor at the Summit and the head of all aspects of the worship department. Heather Corbo Director of Worship Heather handles the day-to-day operations of the worship music department. Clyde Goffe Director of Audio Visual Clyde handles the day-to-day operations of the audio/visual aspects of the worship department. What Worship Opportunities Exist? Worship Team Musicians, Singers, and Technical Artists The worship ministry facilitates worship each week using a Worship Team comprised of musicians and singers, as well as technical artists (who use their talents for sound reinforcement and media). When possible, different rotations of teams will lead worship based upon the current Rotation Schedule. There will be mid-week rehearsals with warm-up rehearsals on Sunday mornings. ( Rotation Schedules, Weekly Rehearsals, and Rehearsal Times are discussed later in this handbook.) Appropriate Musical or Technical Ability and Fit As a Worship Team musician, vocalist, artist, or technician, you need to be skilled and talented enough to follow along at the level of the other participants. In addition, you must be a good fit in style, blend, personality, and skills. While you can review the personal evaluation forms at the back of this handbook, Here are some general guidelines: Musicians need to be able to: - Perform well with others as a team - Learn new material quickly - Demonstrate proficient ability and style on an instrument - Follow lead sheets and chord charts Singers need to be able to: - Perform well with others as a team - Learn new material quickly - Demonstrate proficient style, range, blend, and accurate pitch

4 Sound/Video Technicians need to be able to: - Cooperate well with others on a team - Learn new information quickly including equipment use - Knowledge of music, instruments and having a musical ear is extremely helpful - Demonstrate problem solving skills in order to trouble shoot and resolve audio and visual problems as they occur, even during services Guidelines The guidelines listed below are not a set of rules to be followed in a rigid manner. Rather, they are in place so that we can accomplish the above objectives. Our goal above all, with these guidelines is to diminish distractions in us and from us so that everyone can completely focus on Jesus as the object of our corporate worship. Therefore each member of the worship team must: Be a born-again believer of Jesus Christ. (John 3:7) Live a life worthy of the calling received. (Ephesians 4:1) Maintain a life of biblical moral integrity and good character. (Romans 12:1-2) Walk in the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18) Be self-controlled and alert. (1 Peter 5:8) Be maturing in spiritual growth - Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. (2 Peter 1:5) Church Membership and attendance New Applicants to the worship team and Returning Applicants who stepped down for an extended period of time from the worship team for whatever reason will be required to fill out an application and commitment form, attend several small group worship team meetings/practices and meet with the Director of Worship/Leadership Team Member to determine the best time to serve on the platform. You must attend the Summit Church for three months before ministering on the Worship team You must attend three practices before singing or playing on the team Practice Attendance- All members of the worship team must attend practice on the appointed practice day in order to participate in the Sunday worship service. Exceptions can be made, but will be left to the discretion of the worship leader. If for any reason you are going to be late to practice or a service please let the worship team know as soon as possible.

5 Consistent attendance to the Summit church is important. Not only are we a body of believers, we are a family. We expect that you still attend Sunday service even if you are not on the worship team that day. If you cannot attend a certain Sunday please tell the leader. In order to be on the Summit worship team, you must attend the Summit church new member s class and sign a member covenant. Dress Code (2 Chronicles 5:12) Be careful not to bring attention to yourself by your wardrobe Jeans, T-Shirts, shorts, spaghetti straps, clingy material (tight tops or bottoms), low-cut blouses, skirts that are shorter than the bottom of the calf, tank or tube tops, too much bling, large writing on shirt, and sleeveless or backless blouses are some examples of clothing that are not acceptable for platform ministry. Eliminate excessive jewelry. Hats should not be worn while ministering from the platform. Shoes should be worn while ministering from the platform. The Director of Worship and/or Pastors reserves the right to ask ministers to step down from the platform at any time and at his/her discretion. Auditions There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. I Corinthians 12:4-6 According to the above scripture, all of us are given different gifts. None are higher than the other. They are all equal. Here at the Summit, auditions are meant to get to know you as a person and to see if the gifts the Holy Spirit has given you can be utilized on the worship team or if they are better suited for a different ministry within the church. You must have an audition and a meeting with the Pastor and Worship leader Audition will consist of a prepared songs presented by perspective member, a musical ear evaluation, and an improvisation evaluation. Perspective members must lead a Christian life, lining up with Scripture and the beliefs of the Summit Church. Rehearsals Weekly Rehearsal Attendance

6 Worship Team members are required to be faithful and punctual in their attendance of rehearsals, services, and other events for which they are scheduled. If you are not able to make a rehearsal or be there for the worship service, please inform your Team Leader as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made (see Worship Director & Worship Leader Contact Information ). Additionally, you will generally not be able to participate in the Sunday service if you cannot make the mid-week rehearsal unless arrangements have been made. Excessive absence or tardiness may result in a probationary improvement period or removal from team participation. Rehearsal time before service is a band and vocal run-through, not a time to learn the music for the first time. Prepare beforehand so our sound check and rehearsal times are a success. Rehearsal Times The Worship Team generally meets for a mid-week rehearsal and for a warm-up rehearsal on the day of a service or event. It is expected that musicians and singers, as well as sound and video technicians attend mid-week rehearsals. Mid-Week Rehearsal - 7:00 pm Sun. - Sun. Sound-Check- 8:45 am - Warm-ups 9:00 am Sunday Morning Prayer Sunday mornings, the team on rotation will spend the last minutes of warm-ups in prayer or devotion before each service. In addition to the crucial need for prayer, this helps gather everyone together in time. Personal Practice Personal practice of ones skill is of great importance. One must study to show themselves approved. 2 Timothy 2:15. Periodic Voice lessons (singers only) will be provided and attendance is mandatory Weekly practice of songs for the week is mandatory. Practice CDs and videos will be provided Personal practice during the week is expected in order to: Improve personal proficiency and skill To become familiar with songs announced for the upcoming services Periodically, classes, seminars and voice lessons will be provided or recommended. Attendance is strongly encouraged. Solos and Song leading If a person desires to sing a solo or lead a song, please present the song you would like to sing and be prepared to sing it for the worship leader.

7 Above all, we are to love the Lord our God with all our mind, with all our heart, and with all our strength. Mark 12:30.But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23 & 24 Commitment to the Summit Church Worship Team By signing below: I agree with and fully support the purpose, vision, and values of the Summit Church and will consistently live a life of moral integrity. I commit myself to a lifestyle of worship, honoring God with my actions, affections, thoughts, words, time, and relationship. I understand that the worship ministry of Summit Church is a helps ministry and that I will do everything I can to serve the body of Christ through my involvement in it. I realize that the worship ministry is a TEAM. I will lay down my desire for personal gain and will be devoted to promoting other people s success. I acknowledge that my musical talent is a gift from the Lord. I will find my true identity in Him; not in my talent. I commit to attending the Worship Team practice/meeting as announced. I commit to practicing my part and come prepared for rehearsal. I commit to being punctual to rehearsals and service times. I commit to lifting this ministry up in prayer. I will not gossip or stand for anyone who does. I will honor the Worship Team dress code as I minister from the platform.
