CONSTRUCTION STAGES STAGE 1: PRELIMINARY WORK, AUXILIARY MATERIALS, TOOLS - TOOLS AUXILIARY MATERIALS FOR INSTALLATION OF MOLDS CONSTRUCTION OF FOUNDATIONS PREPARATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE MARKING OF DOOR AND WINDOW OPENINGS TOOLS * Hand saw * Measuring tape * Hammer (wood or rubber) * Impact drill * Spirit level (min. 2 m) * Chalk line * Pliers Tools for cutting and bending reinforcement bars. Tools for screwing screws into concrete, plastic and wood (drill). Scaffold sets for fastening AAB walls. AUXILIARY MATERIALS FOR INSTALLATION OF MOLDS Wire for tying reinforcement bars (diameter 0.77 mm). Scaffold planks for forming the door, window openings and walking on the scaffolds (200 mm 40 mm). Planks for securing the corners and the upper perimeter, securing the first row of molds on the foundations along the perimeter (25 mm 75 mm). Plastic plugs 4 mm x 30 mm. Wood screws with a coarse thread for fastening scaffolds and planks to the plastic ribs (L = 32 mm un L =75 mm). Nail plugs for fastening planks to the concrete foundations (8 mm 100 mm). Nails for fastening wood materials (100 mm). Hex screws for securing the base of scaffold poles (diameter 10 mm, L=60 mm). CONSTRUCTION OF FOUNDATIONS The foundations are built in such a way as to ensure that the applied loads are evenly transferred and distributed and the loadbearing capacity of the building plot is not exceeded. When constructing the foundations, it must be noted that the horizontal tolerance of the foundation surface must not exceed + 5 mm. (see drawings 1, 2). PREPARATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE Level the foundation with a tolerance of 5 mm. Thoroughly clean the foundation in order to ensure good adhesion between the poured concrete and the foundation surface. * Using the chalk line, mark on the foundation surface the inner outline of the wall, and fasten the marking lath along it. MARKING OF DOOR AND WINDOW OPENINGS In the detailed plan of the object, check the locations of the door and window openings and correspondingly mark them on the foundation or on the molds after the installation of the first row. STAGE 2: INSTALLATION OF THE FIRST ROW - Before the installation of molds, place all necessary materials and tools in the middle of the foundation slab. Always start the installation of the first row from the corner, placing the left or right corner mold first, followed by the next (usually a standard mold). Continue to place the molds one after the other, observing the wall perimeter line marked on the foundation. Place the molds with the TOP side up!!! Dents and rough spots in the foundation can be filled with polyurethane foam or mortar. If necessary, the height can be adjusted with a saw by cutting the bottom side of the molds. If the foundations are not level, it is recommended to tie together the first and second row of molds with a wire. Fixate the wall corners with laths or tie each corner mold with the adjacent standard mold by using a wire in order to prevent shifting of the molds during the filling of concrete. STAGE 3: INSTALLATION OF SUBSEQUENT ROWS - CUTTING OF MOLDS PLASTIC RIB INSTALLATION OF CORNER MOLDS INSTALLATION OF ADJUSTABLE CORNER MOLDS INSTALLATION OF SUBSEQUENT ROWS CUTTING OF MOLDS - Cutting of molds may be necessary for accurate insertion of window and door frames in accordance with the design or the wall length specifications. Cutting of molds is done with a hand saw along the lines on the mold plane. The cut mold parts that

contain the plastic rib may be used in a different part of the wall. When cutting molds, it must be noted that no more than 3 sections can be left behind the plastic rib, and it is not recommended to cut the mold directly at the plastic rib. The cut must always be made lengthwise along the marking line in order to maintain the interlinking of the molds. PLASTIC RIB - The plastic rib is constructed in a way to allow inserting reinforcement bars in 10 different positions. The new modification of the plastic rib allows concrete to flow more easily through the rib structure. INSTALLATION OF CORNER MOLDS - In each row of molds, the right and left corner molds are placed alternately one on the other. Cutting of corner molds is not recommended! If necessary, adjust the adjacent standard molds. INSTALLATION OF ADJUSTABLE CORNER MOLDS - With the adjustable corner molds, corners can be formed with a angle. It eases the installation work in complex projects where the wall angle is not 90 (e.g., when building a bay). The adjustable corner mold has a top and bottom cutting part. To connect it with the next standard mold, the adjustable corner mold is adjusted by dividing it nearly in half. After cutting, two mold pieces are obtained with 3 and 2 rib sections. INSTALLATION OF SUBSEQUENT ROWS - The installation of subsequent rows can be started similarly to the first row: from the corner, placing the right corner mold on the left corner mold or vice versa. AAB molds are installed on the previous row so that the plastic ribs are placed one on the other in a straight line, thereby creating a vertical line of plastic ribs after every 200 mm, which is subsequently used for the installation of plasterboard. The molds are placed one on the other with an offset with a length of half a mold (minimum offset 400 mm), so that long vertical joints are not formed. If the vertical joint of the molds for several rows is formed in a straight line, it must be fastened with wood laths, so that the concrete does not break the joint during the concreting. STAGE 4: FIXATION AND REINFORCEMENT OF MOLDS NOTES REGARDING REINFORCEMENT OF WALLS REINFORCEMENT OF WALLS - Before beginning the second row construction, horizontal reinforcement bars must be inserted in the first row of molds. Ø 8 mm, Ø 9 mm or Ø 10 mm reinforcement bars may be inserted in the plastic ribs. Vertical reinforcement bars are inserted between the horizontal bars after the installation of all rows. The construction and application of reinforcement must comply with the Latvian Construction Standards (LBN). The necessary type, amount and layout of reinforcement is determined by a qualified design engineer. NOTES REGARDING REINFORCEMENT - Insert the metal reinforcement bars in accordance with the design engineer s instructions. Insert the horizontal reinforcement bars in each row of molds before the installation of the next row. It is recommended to place the horizontal reinforcement bars alternately: at the inner side of the mold in one row, at the outer side in the next row, and so on, so that the vertical reinforcement bars could be inserted and fastened between them before the filling of concrete. STAGE 5: FORMING OF DOOR AND WINDOW OPENINGS - FORMING OF DOOR AND WINDOW OPENINGS CLOSING OF WALL ENDS AND OPENINGS WITH SHUTTERS FORMING OF DOOR AND WINDOW OPENINGS - The door and window openings are constructed by following the marks made on the foundation or the first row of molds. The door and window openings are constructed by inserting in the wall a temporary wooden frame of suitable dimensions. The frame is necessary for closing the ends of the molds during concreting and for holding the poured concrete. It can be retained as a structural element for fastening of door and window frames, as well as for fastening of finishing materials. The temporary frame can be made of 22 mm thick plywood or planks mm or 240 mm, which are fixed on the sides and upper part of the opening. For the bottom part, two wood beams 25 mm 50 mm are used, placed on both bottom parts of the molds to allow

filling concrete in them. Long spans of openings must be additionally secured to prevent potential bending. A covering is formed above door and window openings. Insert the reinforcement bars in the molds in accordance with the load-bearing capacity of the covering. If necessary, consult with the design engineer. If the wood frames of molds are left as structural elements, before pouring the concrete into molds, the opening frames can be anchored to the wall with nails (minimum L = 75 mm) along the perimeter of the frame with a spacing of 300 mm. Molds above the openings are interconnected with wood laths, thus ensuring the strength of the cross-beam. CLOSING OF WALL ENDS AND OPENINGS WITH SHUTTERS - The ends of AAB mold walls and the vertical parts of openings are closed with the AAB system end shutters. The closing point of the wall must be fastened before concreting. - N.B. In this case, it is important to note that the shutter can be inserted in the mold only if the distance has been maintained from the plastic rib to the cut. In the upper part of garret type façades, the molds must be cut above the desired slope line, and concrete with lower settling properties must be used. STAGE 6: ERECTION OF AAB SCAFFOLDING SYSTEM AND LEVELING OF WALLS FIXATION OF WALLS WITH AAB SCAFFOLDING SYSTEM - The load created during the filling of concrete is reduced with the plastic ribs and the AAB scaffolding system. The AAB scaffolding system is necessary: to freely access the upper rows during the installation of molds and concreting; to even the loads exerted on the structure during the filling of concrete; to protect the walls against wind loads during the installation of molds and concreting; to level the wall before and after concreting. - The AAB scaffolding system is erected after completing the third or fourth row of molds, observing the following instructions. 1. The maximum distance between the vertical posts is 1 m, the optimal distance is m, and 0.4 m from corners. 2. Fasten the vertical post to the plastic ribs with mm wood screws, screwing them into the longitudinal holes of the scaffolding in the middle, rather than the top or bottom part. 3. Fasten the bottom part of the vertical post to the floor with 6 mm 50 mm screws. 4. Support the vertical post with an adjustable guy pole, fastening it with a 10 m reinforcement bar or a pin. 5. Fasten the base of the adjustable pole to the floor with screws and plugs (10 mm; L = 60 mm). 6. Adjust the wall to a vertical position by using the guy pole adjusting mechanism. 7. Place the planks on the scaffolds for walking and insert a support rail for safety. STAGE 7: CONCRETING - CONCRETING METHODS PREPARATIONS BEFORE CONCRETING POURING OF CONCRETE VIBRATION OF CONCRETE DETERMINING VERTICALITY AFTER CONCRETING REMOVAL OF GUY POLES CONCRETING METHODS 1. Concrete pump. 2. Agitator/vessel. 3. Conveyer. PREPARATIONS BEFORE CONCRETING Before pouring concrete in AAB construction mold walls, use a spirit level (2 m) to make sure that the walls are vertical. If necessary, straighten the wall by using a guy pole adjusting mechanism. Experience shows that it is useful to tie the upper row of blocks with the previous row by using a wire. It restricts the potential elevation of the upper row of molds that may occur during the filling of concrete. Particular attention must be paid to the upper row if further construction is planned by using AAB mold systems. Care must be taken to ensure that concrete is not poured over the upper edges of the AAB molds. Cover the upper side with a film or tape of corresponding width. It will ensure better bonding with the next row. POURING OF CONCRETE Before concreting, inspect the consistency of the concrete. The concrete must be easily flowing, but not liquid. The maximum chip size is 10 mm. The specifications and content of the concrete must correspond to the designer s instructions. If the

concrete is supplied by using a pump, there must be two 90º elbows installed at the end of the supply pipe in order to limit flow. The filling of concrete is started in the bottom molds of window openings. The process is continued, evenly concerting along the building perimeter, filling the wall to a height of approximately 3 molds. The process is repeated until the wall is completely filled with concrete. The concrete filling rate in AAB mold walls differs. It is influenced by factors such as the length and height of the wall, the outdoor temperature and the consistency of the concrete. The rate of concreting also depends on the pouring method used. In places where the flow of concrete is constricted, for example, 2 90 corners with door and window opening connections, it is important to carefully observe the consistency of the concrete and the pouring rate. In order to achieve a smoother result, when concreting higher walls it may be necessary to modify the composition of the concrete. VIBRATION OF CONCRETE The vibration of concrete can be done with the following methods: 1. By using mold vibration, hitting the plastic ribs with the wood or rubber hammer. 2. By using a vibrator (max. 25 mm). Experience shows that larger vibrators often damage the connecting elements, and their working pressure may turn out to be too high. The height of the vibrator lead must be larger than the wall height in order to ensure compaction along the entire wall. Each poured row must be thoroughly vibrated for the concrete to completely cover the reinforcement bars in it. In addition, that helps avoid sedimentation of the chips. Each subsequent poured row must connect well with the previous row without defects. DETERMINING VERTICALITY AFTER CONCRETING After concreting, it is necessary to ascertain if the walls are vertical, making corrections if necessary by using the guy pole adjusting mechanism. REMOVAL OF GUY POLES Guy poles may be removed only after the concrete is solid enough and there is sufficient horizontal support, e.g., the floor or roof covering. After the removal of the guy poles, the adjusting mechanisms must be inspected, cleaned and centered again. STAGE 8: INSTALLATION OF THE COVERING AND ROOF STRUCTURE T-CONNECTION AAB MOLD SYSTEM WALL COVERING TYPES T-CONNECTION With the help of AAB molds and a hand saw, it is easy and simple to build T-shaped partition walls. AAB molds are installed alternately and fastened at corners before concreting with wood laths. AAB MOLD SYSTEM WALL COVERING TYPES The AAB construction system is a universal wall construction method that can be connected with most popular covering types, including: * In-situ reinforced concrete * Hollow and ribbed reinforced concrete panels * Wood beams * Metal beams STAGE 9: INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS AND DOORS STAGE 10: ESTABLISHMENT OF UTILITY LINE - CONNECTION OF EXTERNAL UTILITY LINES TO BUILDINGS INTERNAL UTILITY LINES CONNECTION OF EXTERNAL UTILITY LINES TO BUILDINGS Utility lines (electricity, water supply, sewers, air supply and extraction, etc.) can be established by cutting corresponding openings in the molds by using a knife or saw. If the openings are larger than 400 mm, they must be formed by observing the same principle as for door and window openings. INTERNAL UTILITY LINES Internal utility lines can be simply cut in the inner side of molds by using a hot knife or a hand cutter. Water supply and heating system pipes are inserted in the ducts cut in the molds. To fix electricity sockets, polyurethane foam can be used. Electrical wiring and sockets are inserted up to a depth of 43 mm or deeper, correspondingly cutting the concrete.

STAGE 11: WALL FINISHING INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR FINISHING All traditional finishing materials can be used for interior and exterior finishing of walls, including plasterboard, plastering, stone finishing, wall tiles, wood, bricks, decorative tiles, plastic panels and other materials. The finishing materials from both the outside and inside can be mounted with screws directly on the plastic ribs of the molds, maintaining a spacing of 203 mm.
