1 The Big Knit: 100 Hats for 100 Babies Tuesday 19 April About the event Hosted by BBC Radio Sheffield, this event brings together knitters and those that prefer crochet to make 100 hats for 100 babies born within the Jessop Wing. The event will offer tea, biscuits, wool and knitting patterns all you need to do is bring your needles (specified in the patterns below). We have patterns to suit all needles/hooks and skill levels. Whilst at the event and crafting we will give you information about the amazing research we do at the Jessops and how to get involved in all our research. 4 BABY BEANIE EASY CROCHET WM2059 Designed by Lou Mott SIZES hat circumference hat length Yarn 1 - Preemie 1-2 lbs 20-22cm 8-9cm 10g 2 - Preemie 2-3 lbs 22-26cm cm 10g 3 - Preemie 3-5 lbs 26-31cm 10-13cm 15g 4 - Newborn 6-8 lbs 30-32cm cm 20g MATERIALS The pattern uses Sirdar Snuggly Dk but any DK yarn, the amounts required may vary for different yarns. You will also need a 3.5mm crochet hook. TENSION Approximately 20htr sts to 10cm, using a 3.50mm hook. ABBREVIATIONS ss slip stitch, htr half treble crochet, dc double crochet, ch chain. NOTES The beanies are made all in one piece, worked in rounds. The hat circumference is slightly less than the actual head circumference in order to make the hat fit snug. PATTERN Size 1 Make a loop using the magic loop method. Round 1 create 8htr into the centre of the magic loop, then pull the tail of the yarn tight to close the centre hole, join the round with a ss into the top of the first htr at the start of the round. Place a stitch marker here if needed and move up with each round completed to mark the beginning of each round. Round 2 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into same place, 2 htr into each of the sts of previous round, join the round with a ss. (16sts) Round 3 2ch (counts as 1htr), 2 htr into the next st, *1htr in the next st, 2 htr into the next st, repeat from * to end of round, join the round with a ss. (24sts) Round 4 2ch (counts as 1htr), 1htr into next st, 2 htr into next st, *1htr into each of next 2sts, 2 htr into next st, rep from * to end of round, join the round with a ss.
