1 Patterns and Projects If you have a baby hat pattern you like better, feel free to use it. All hats should meet the following specifications. When the hat is laid flat, the bottom should measure 5" to 6 ½" without being stretched, or 34cm in circumference; and the depth from the band to the crown should be about 6". If some of the hats are smaller/larger, they can still be used. We can use as few or as many hats as you are willing to make. We would prefer not to have pom-poms on top of the hats. Please be sure to wash your projects before turning them in. We recommend washing with Dreft. Knit Baby Cap Pattern #1: Created by Betty Rose, Volunteer Materials: Sport weight (light or DK) or Baby yarn, size 8 needles (Repeat between in each indicated row.) K2, P2 to end of row. (Continue for 6 rows.) K 1 row P 1 row, for the next 14 rows. K 9 stitches, K 2 together across row, P back across row. K 8 stitches, K 2 together across row, P back across row. K 7 stitches, K 2 together across row, P back across row. K 6 stitches, K 2 together across row, P back across row. K 5 stitches, K 2 together across row, P back across row. K 4 stitches, K 2 together across row, P back across row. K 2 together all across this row (15 sts remaining) P back across these 15. Cut yarn, leaving a long enough thread to put on a darning needle, draw up snug and sew down the side seam. The hat band, when folded and laid flat, should measure between 5 to 6 1/2. This same hat can be done on size 8 (4) double pointed needles. The only difference is that you do not have a purl row it is knitted all the way, and you don t have to sew it up. Also, cast 24 stitches on each of three of the double pointed needles. Leave a long thread to gather the last stitches and draw up snug. Knit Baby Cap Pattern #2: Created by Linda Lane, Volunteer Circular # 6 needles, 16 length Set of double pointed needles, # 6 Knitting worsted, washable yarn Cast on 64 stitches and knit in the round until your hat measures 4 ½.

2 The finished hat will have a rolled edge. Switch to double points and put a marker at beginning of round. K2 together, K 6 for round 1 K2 tog, K 5 for round 2 K2 tog, K 4 for round 3 K2 tog, K3 for round 4 K2 tog, K2 for round 5 K2 tog, K1 for round 6 K2 tog for round 7 You should have 8 st. remaining End #1: cut yarn, thread through darning needle and go through final loops two times, and then draw close. Turn hat inside out and run yarn through 5 or 6 stitches as in duplicate stitch to secure loose ends. Cut. Secure beginning yarn in the same manner. End #2: Put stitches on two double pointed needles, and continue by purling in the round for 4 more rows, and then end by drawing yarn through remaining stitches, pulling snuggly, and weaving in the end for a few stitches. This creates a faux pompon. End. # 3: Reduce stitches to 6, and make I-cord. Put all stitches onto one double point and knit from r. to l. until piece is long enough to tie into a little pigtail. Cut yarn and go through remaining loops and pull snug. End as above. Alternate beginning: Cast on 64 st. and work in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 inch, and then K every row for another 2 ½, and then decrease for the crown. Note: The 2 ½ portion of the hat is an ideal place to have fun with stripes, patterns, or decorative stitches. Use up your bits and pieces of novelty, or colored yarns. Weave the ends in on the inside of the hat, or knot your joinings and leave 1 lengths on the outside of the hat as festive decorations. Finished hat will be approx. 6 wide and 5 ¼ tall. Small Hat: Cast on 56 st. and K1, P1 ribbing for 1 ins. K in stockinette for an addl. 2 ins. Then decrease for crown until you have 7 stitches remaining. Cut yarn and weave or sew in loose ends. Smallest Hat: Cast on 48 st. and knit in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 inch. Knit in stockinette for 1 ¾ inched. When you are 2 ¾ inches from the cast on, begin decreasing for the crown. Continue decreasing until there are 6 st. remaining. Cut yarn and weave or sew in loose ends.

3 Knit Baby Cap Pattern #3: Created by Linda Lane, Volunteer Straight needles # 6 Knitting worsted washable yarn Cast on 64 stitches, and knit in ribbing - K1 st., P1 st. for 1 Knit in stockinette (K 1 row, P 1 row) until piece measures 3 ½ from the beginning. Decrease for crown: K2 tog, K6 repeat until end of the row. K2 tog, K5 repeat K2 tog, K4 epeat K2 tog., K3 repeat K2 tog., K2 repeat K2 tog., K1 repeat K2 tog across row You should end with 8 st. on needles. End #1: Cut yarn, draw loops together. And weave or sew the side of the hat together. End#2: Create stub by knitting remaining few stitches for another 4-6 rows, and then drawing loops tog. Weave or sew the hat sides together, and bury the ends on inside of hat. End# 3: Continue knitting on remaining six stitches until you have a pigtail long enough to tie into a loose knot. Then cut yarn and weave in on inside of hat. 6 wide and 5 ¼ high. Smaller Hat: Cast on 56 stitches, knit in ribbing for 1, continue in stockinette for 2 inches.

4 Hat measures 3 total. Decrease for crown until 7 stitches remain. Weave or sew in loose ends. Smaller yet: Cast on 48 st. Knit in ribbing for 1, continue in stockinette for 1 ½ Hat measures 2 ½ total. Decrease for crown until 6 stitches remain. Weave or sew in loose ends. You are welcome to use any pattern that you know. The finished blanket size should be 30" x 36" (30 squares). 6 inches is the length of any paper money Knitting Cast on 20 stitches, then straight knit until you square is 6 inches long. Use 10 1/2 size needles. Crochet Chain 20 stitches, then single crochet until your square is 6 inches long. Crib Sheet These will need to be made out of a flat cotton material, please nothing fuzzy like flannel. They can be a simple square of material with a zigzag stitched border.
