1 HDBASET INSTALL GUIDE AND FAQ S SUBJECT: GENERAL INFORMATION AND INSTALL TIPS WHEN USING HDBASET APPLIES TO.5 INTEGRA MODELS THAT HAVE AN HDBASET PORT DATE: AUGUST 19, 2013 Q: What is HDBaseT? A: HDBaseT is a technology that allows distribution of audio/video signals in digital format up to 100M/328ft via a single CAT5e/6 cable. HDBaseT can also potentially transmit Ethernet, Power, and various control signals through the same cable (commonly referred to as 5Play Technology). For more information visit: Q: What Audio/Video formats are supported by HDBaseT? A: All HDMI 1.4 audio/video formats are supported (including 4K UltraHD). Q: Does HDBaseT travel on an Ethernet network? A: No. HDBaseT uses an Ethernet jack (RJ45) but is based on a different protocol which standard Ethernet equipment cannot work with. HDBaseT devices DO NOT get plugged into an existing network hub, switch, router, etc. Q: What signal types does the HDBaseT port on products support? A: products support the transmission of audio and video signals only. Control signals, POH (Power Over HDBaseT), Ethernet, CEC, ARC, etc. are not supported. Q: What are the 2 Classes of HDBaseT? A: HDBaseT has 2 class types. Class A supports transmission distances of 100M/328 and Class B (or HDBaseT Lite) supports transmission distances up to 70M/230ft. Q: What Class type is the HDBaseT port on products? A: products utilize the Class A HDBaseT port (transmission distances of up to 100M/328ft).

2 Q: Will Class A and Class B HDBaseT products work together? A: Yes, Class A and Class B products should work together as long as the distance matches the Class B criteria. Q: Do you have a recommended HDBaseT receiver to use with products? A: Most any HDBaseT receiver which has it s own power supply will work however, we recommend using the Atlona ATPRO2HDREC or Binary B500RX330IR. Q: Can any HDBaseT receiver be used? A: No. HDBaseT receivers vary by manufacturer/model. Some HDBaseT receivers require POH (Power Over HDBaseT) the HDBaseT port on products does not supply POH. Q: Can the HDBaseT port be used in Zone 2? A: Yes. The HDBaseT port is assignable to either the Main Zone or Zone 2. However, the Main HDMI out can only be used in the Main Zone (cannot be used in Zone 2). Q: Can the HDBaseT port on be active simultaneously with the Main HDMI out? A: Yes. Both the HDMI Main out and HDBaseT port can be active at the same time. However, when using both outputs for the main zone it is recommended that the discrete commands for HDMI Output Selector be used to turn on only the output(s) that will have a display device actually turned on when in use. Otherwise there is the potential for HDMI handshake errors if both outputs are active but only a single display device is connected and powered on.

3 Installation Tips: Due to device specifications HDBaseT products may be susceptible to certain level of power noise or electrostatic discharge (ESD), which may cause sudden interruption of signals. Power noise also represents the type of interference that can occur when large motors or devices send energy into nearby lowvoltage wiring. Therefore, it is generally recommended to take the following precautions: Use shielded CAT6 cable (or better). S/FTP(S/STP) cable is preferred (braiding + foil shielding). Use as short as possible shielded CAT6 cable Use shielded connectors with a drain connected to both ends of the CAT6 shielded cable. Do not bundle HDBaseT CAT5e/6 cable with power cable. Supply power from an isolated circuit (take special care to stay away from motors, pumps, fans, compressors, etc.). Use good quality power surge protection devices. The use of a ferrite core (or multiple ferrite cores) on the AC line of the HDBaseT receiver may help when necessary. Additional Installation Tips Terminate RJ45 connections using the EIA 568B standard on both ends. When using shielded cable use shielded connectors with a drain connected at each end- otherwise the wire shield is rendered practically useless. When using shielded cable shielded patch cables and couplers must also be used to be fully effective. Do not use RJ45 connectors that allow wires to be inserted through the connector and out the front ( EZ type connectors). Ideally there should be no intermediate connections (couplers, splices, punch down blocks, etc.) in the CAT5e/6 cable from endtoend. If there must be a break use no more than two couplers and do not use punch down block(s). Limit any run to a maximum of two patch cables. Use as short as possible HDMI interconnect cable (2 meter maximum) between the HDBaseT receiver and display device. Use good quality High Speed (or category 2 ) rated HDMI interconnect cables throughout the system. Maximum cable length measurements are under ideal conditions: no electrical inference, straight cable runs, no patch panels/couplers/splices/etc. Be advised that these factors can/will compromise signal integrity and bandwidth.

4 When using HDBaseT in the Zone 2 (Zone 2 Monitor Out: HDBaseT): The Main Zone will be limited to a maximum of 9.2 channel playback (DTR60.5) There is an alphanumeric OSD (white text on gray background) for Zone 2, which will display NET/USB information. Only HDMI video signals will be passed to the HDBaseT output (no analog video). HDMI audio signals can/will be sent to the Zone 2 Pre/Line outs and/or Powered Zone 2 outputs (unless using Whole House Mode see below). Coax and Optical sources are not available. When using Whole House Mode sources must be connected via analog audio connections for playback in Zone 2. If the Main Zone and Zone 2 both select the same HDMI source the Main Zone will be limited to 2channel PCM while both zones are playing. When using HDBaseT in the Main Zone (Monitor Out: HDBaseT): The OSD will be limited to an alphanumeric display (white text on gray background) for the Main Zone, which will display NET/USB information; volume level; etc. Picture controls, video processing, upscaling, etc. are not available when using the HDBaseT output. Analog video signals are converted and output to HDBaseT. However, the resolution of the incoming signal will not change. HDMI signals are output to HDBaseT. However, the resolution of the incoming signal will not change.
