OUR ENZYMES FOR OPTIMAL POULTRY NUTRITION Animal Nutrition
CONVERTING FEED INTO PERFORMANCE Phytate and NSPs Challenges in poultry nutrition Phytate is a complexing agent which mainly stores phosphorus in vegetable feedstuffs. Additionally, it binds other minerals and trace elements as well as amino acids, which makes them unavailable for intestinal absorption. Non-starch-polysaccharides (NSP) are indigestible carbohydrates which show anti-nutritive effects. These negative effects are mainly due to the increased viscosity of the digesta in the gut and the enclosure of nutrients, making them unavailable for digestion. To break down these compounds and thus, to get the maximum performance out of the feed, the digestive system of poultry is missing the crucial enzymes: Phytase and NSP-degrading enzymes! The effects of Natuphos and Natugrain Natuphos, our 3-phytase from Aspergillus niger, efficiently releases phosphorus from phytate. Consequently, the availability of phosphorus increases, while having the same effect on the other phytate-bound minerals and amino acids. These released nutrients can now be utilized by the animal instead of being wasted with the manure, polluting our soil and environment. Natugrain, our product line of beta-xylanase and beta-glucanase, degrades pentosanes (arabinoxylans) and beta-glucans. Both enzymes compensate for the antinutritive effects and increase nutrient utilization. Improved performance, litter quality and poultry house hygiene are the consequences. Improved performance In numerous feeding trials, the supplementation of feed with Natuphos or Natugrain resulted in improved weight gain and a better feed conversion rate. In an experiment with broilers, the positive effects of the single enzymes were even exceeded by the combination of Natuphos and Natugrain Blend (Fig. 1). 2
Fig. 1: Effect of Natuphos (phytase) and Natugrain Blend (endo-beta-xylanase and endo-beta-glucanase) and a combination of both enzyme products on the apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and the performance of broilers (day 7 to 28) AME (dry matter), MJ/kg Feed conversion ratio, g feed/g gain Weight gain, g Control Natuphos 5000 L 100 g/tonne Natugrain Blend L 80 g/tonne Both enzymes Ravindran and Bryden,

Count on Natuphos Numerous Natuphos feeding trials with widely differing rations provided matrix values which can be used in least cost formulations. Due to differences in product characteristics, such as mode of action and bioefficacy, the nutrient equivalencies cannot be applied to other phytases. Our matrix values quantify the extent to which nutrients are released from phytate by the use of Natuphos. Thus, the costly supplementation of feed with inorganic minerals, trace elements and amino acids can be reduced, resulting in lower feed costs. Natugrain The flexible solution The various Natugrain products reduce the anti-nutritive NSPs in poultry diets containing different cereals. Whether the quality, the availability or the price of cereals is changing, Natugrain allows for more flexibility in feed formulas. A frequent problem in wheat based diets for poultry is the variation of the nutritive value and utilization between different kinds and batches of wheat. Natugrain Wheat, our highly effective endo-beta-xylanase, increases the nutrient utilization and levels out variations of the nutritive value in these diets. Natugrain Blend combines betaxylanase with beta-glucanase and is capable of counteracting antinutritional pentosans and betaglucans. The nutritive value of wheat-based diets, but also feed containing barley (up to %), and other problematic ingredients, such as rye, triticale, wheat bran and sunflower can be optimized with this enzyme formulation. 5
TARGETED SOLUTIONS The right formulation Natuphos and Natugrain are available in different formulations to meet the individual requirements for the manufacture of quality feed under different production conditions. Our dry products powder as well as granules and liquid formulations are available in different concentrations. The post pelleting liquid application (PPLA) of our enzymes circumvents the hydrothermal stress on enzymes when higher pelleting temperatures are inevitable due to pellet quality, hygienic reasons or capacity. The dynamic enzyme duo Natuphos Combi L combines the original phytase Natuphos with the beta-xylanase Natugrain Wheat in one single liquid formulation. Natuphos Combi L is approved for broilers, layers and turkeys and leads to maximum performance by adding the efficacy of two enzymes to the feed. Natuphos Combi L is well suited for feed producers who use cereals like wheat only part of the year. The product provides additional NSP-degrading betaxylanase and can replace the application of pure liquid phytase. 6 For further information please contact your local sales representative or explore the world of enzymes on our website
