Introduction Introduction Good planning of electrical installations saves money and provides safety and security. The layouts of each storey in a building or each apartment are the starting point for each individual electrical installation plan. Even during this early planning phase, the planner or architect must focus on the technical services in the building. This is especially true with regard to the scope of the electrical installation. It is only after the intended uses of electrical devices have been established that planning of the electrical system in terms of electric circuits, socket-outlets, switches, outlets for luminaires, housings for luminaires, and communications connections can proceed. This planning phase assumes special importance when it comes to electrical installations in concrete structures, as subsequent changes or expansions of the electrical installation are extremely costly and time-consuming. For this reason, KAISER has developed [K.sys], the new planning software for the installation of electrical devices in concrete structures. [K.sys] is available as a programme window for planning with every CAD application and can be easily incorporated into the CAD application s user interface. All KAISER products used in concrete construction are grouped into three categories and an information area for optimal planning. In the following, all programme functions are described in detail. 3
1. Installation 1.1. Download The planning software is available to download at in the range of Info Service (Downloads, Planning Software). Here, you can register by entering your complete address and clicking on the Submit button. 4
1. Installation 1.1. Download You will receive your access data promptly via and can then log in to download the software. Once you have registered successfully, you are entitled to download the planning software once. After the software has been downloaded, you can either Run or Save it on your PC. 5
1. Installation 1.2. Setup The CAD application used must be open before you can install the KAISER planning software! After launching Setup.exe, a window where you can select the desired language for the [K.sys] planning software opens. The language choices include: German, English, French and Dutch / Flemish. Once a language has been selected, the Setup Assistant starts installation of the [K.sys] planning software. 6
1. Installation 1.2. Setup Before the programme is installed, several conditions regarding use of the KAISER planning software must be accepted. Next, the destination folder in which the [K.sys] planning software will be installed must be selected...and the installation process started by clicking on Install. 7
1. Installation 1.2. Setup Once the destination folder has been selected, the Setup Assistant starts the installation process. This is then completed by clicking on Finish. 8
1. Installation 1.2. Setup After installation has been completed successfully, the KAISER programme icon can be used to open the planning software... The KAISER planning software can be called up at any time via this programme icon... 9
1. Installation 1.3. General The [K.sys] planning software is a standalone programme. It runs in front of the CAD application and assists in selecting the correct product. Consequently, the programme s output for the electrical boxes and housing configurations selected is in the form of a.dwg file. To work flexibly with [K.sys], simply double-click on the Planning Assistant and drag it in front of the CAD application to place it in the most useful location. It can even be incorporated into the CAD application s user interface. The categories Concrete construction, Installation housings and Parts lists are provided to assist with planning. In addition, there is an information area with instructions regarding fire protection, installation in concrete, installation housings for luminaires and loudspeakers as well as how to check the programme version. Step-by-step instructions on how to use the programme are provided in the following. 10
Concrete construction 2.1. Explanations All conventional products needed for planning proper installation of electrical devices in concrete structures are found in this category. They are grouped for viewing under the following headings: ceiling light connection boxes, one-gang and multi-gang junction boxes, international, universal installation housings, junction boxes, wall light connection boxes and accessories as well as installation zones. The part numbers for all products from the various areas can be found here. Clicking on the corresponding part number brings up the following: Selection window Part No. Product logo/image as well as Product description with all details. Once the desired item has been found, it can be placed in the CAD drawing and incorporated into it by clicking on Next/ Continue or Insert item. The first time a circuit symbol is incorporated, the scale of the drawing is requested. The scale of the new circuit symbol to be incorporated can be changed at any time. (1) (1) for more information, refer to Chapter
2. Concrete construction 2.1. Explanations Incorporation of a one-gang box is shown in the following example. After clicking on Next/Continue or Insert item, the user interface is blocked and a message appears stating that the selected item can now be inserted into the plan of the building. 12
2. Concrete construction 2.2. Creating laying zones to DIN Eight.dwg components are available for displaying cable and conduit routing. These components represent the upper, middle and lower laying zones. These one-third wall representations can be combined in such a way that all laying and routing possibilities can be depicted as a cross-sectional view of the wall. 13
2. Concrete construction 2.3. Scale of circuit symbols The first time a circuit symbol is incorporated, the scale of the drawing is requested. This value can be changed at any time for new circuit symbols that are to be incorporated. Clicking on the button opens a window in which the scale can be entered easily. The scale selected then appears in the button. 14
3. Installation housings 3.0. Installation housings The Installation housings category provides reliable assistance for selection of the appropriate housing configurations for lights and loudspeakers. The [K.sys] planning software offers three ways for selecting the appropriate housing configuration: by size by manufacturer by housing type. 15
3. Installation housings 3.1. Selecting by size When selecting by size, the installation housing is determined by specifying the dimensions of the light or loudspeaker to be installed. The user is guided to the correct housing step-by-step. In the first step, the size of the required ceiling opening is requested. Once this has been specified, the programme now restricts its subsequent search and lists only dimensions for housing configurations that offer this ceiling opening. 16
3. Installation housings 3.1. Selecting by size If a ceiling opening of less than 100 mm in diameter is specified, the programme directs the housing selection process to the HaloX line and thereafter only displays an installation depth of 100 mm. (1) Next, a decision regarding the housing type must be made. Is a housing for highvoltage halogen spotlights is needed, should the housing have a transformer tunnel to accommodate an electronic transformer or must the housing have a separate wiring compartment. This selection can be made via mouse click and an image of the housing is displayed immediately. (1) Maximum installation depth for NV 105 mm; for HV 110 mm 17
3. Installation housings 3.1. Selecting by size Once the appropriate housing configuration has been determined, it can be placed in the CAD drawing and incorporated into it by clicking on Next/Continue or Insert item. The user interface is blocked and a message appears stating that the selected item can now be inserted into the plan of the building. 18
3. Installation housings 3.1. Selecting by size If a ceiling opening greater than 100 mm in diameter is specified, the programme now restricts its subsequent search and lists only dimensions for housing configurations that offer this ceiling opening. For this ceiling opening size, only housings with the installation depths of the KompaX line are displayed. (1) After selecting the appropriate installation depth, information regarding the ballast is now required. On the basis of the dimensions specified, an image of the appropriate housing is already displayed. Once all information has been specified, clicking on the Next/Continue or Insert item button generates a graphical symbol for the housing configuration in.dwg format. (1) Fitting heights up to 200 mm possible for luminaires; KAISER must be consulted for heights above 200 mm 19
3. Installation housings 3.1. Selecting by size The user interface is blocked and a message appears stating that the selected item can now be inserted into the plan of the building. 20
3. Installation housings 3.1. Selecting by size When selecting in this way, there are two special aspects of the housing allocation. If a ceiling opening of 100 mm in diameter is specified, information regarding the type of lamp to be used must be provided. If use of a halogen bulb is planned, the selection process continues in the HaloX line; if use of a compact fluorescent bulb is planned, the selection process continues in the KompaX line. When installing the housing in a concrete wall, this must be indicated by setting the hook for the wall opening. Once this selection has been made, it is also depicted in the circuit symbol. (1) (1) for more information, refer to Chapter 6.2. Explanations regarding specification of ceiling openings: 98 Part no Universal front ring; variable ceiling opening with mineral fibreboard 99 Part no Universal front ring; variable ceiling opening 6868 Part no Front ring for square ceiling opening 68 x 68 mm 7575 Part no Front ring for square ceiling opening 75 x 75 mm 21
3. Installation housings 3.2. Selecting by manufacturer When selecting the housing configuration by manufacturer, the installation housing is determined automatically after specifying the type of luminaire or loudspeaker. (1) The appropriate housing configuration is also selected here using a step-by-step approach. A loudspeaker or luminaire is selected. The manufacturer of the loudspeaker or luminaire is then selected. (1) An interactive matching of manufacturer s products to KAISER installation housings can be found on our website 22
3. Installation housings 3.2. Selecting by manufacturer The type designation for the desired loudspeaker or light is selected. Clicking on Next/Continue or Insert item generates the required housing configuration. The user interface is blocked and a message appears stating that the selected item can now be inserted into the plan of the building. 23
3. Installation housings 3.2. Selecting by manufacturer When selecting the appropriate housing in this way, it is only necessary to know which light is to be used. The appropriate housing configuration is then determined automatically. 24
3. Installation housings 3.3. Selecting by housing type When selecting the housing configuration by housing type, the installation housings for luminaires and loudspeakers are presented one after another. This assumes that the user is already familiar with the types of luminaires and housing components available in the KAISER product range. First, the required product group - HaloX or KompaX - is selected... 25
3. Installation housings 3.3. Selecting by housing type...then the concrete production method is specified...(this is not yet binding) (1) (1) refer to Chapters 4.1 and the necessary intermediate frame is added... 26
3. Installation housings 3.3. Selecting by housing type...an additional intermediate may also be needed... (1) An image of the selected housing configuration is already displayed. (1) Fitting heights up to 200 mm possible for luminaires; plant must be consulted for heights above 200 mm...the appropriate front ring is selected and confirmed by clicking on Next/Continue or Insert item. The required configuration is then generated. 27
3. Installation housings 3.3. Selecting by housing type The user interface is blocked and a message appears stating that the selected item can now be inserted into the plan of the building. 28
4. Parts lists 4.1. Production method On-site mixed concrete. The Parts lists category contains many useful tips to make work easier. For instance, lists can be generated here automatically from entries in the plan of the building. If the on-site mixed concrete production method is selected in this category and confirmed by clicking on Next/Continue, all replaceable items are switched to this production method. Example: Here, changing the multi-gang box (Part no ) for on-site mixed concrete is depicted. (see next page) 29
4. Parts lists 4.2. Production method Prefabricated concrete. If the Prefabricated concrete production method is selected in this category and confirmed by clicking on Next/Continue, all replaceable items are switched to this production method. Example: If the production method is now switched to Prefabricated concrete, the previously selected item (Part no ) changes to a multi-gang box from the B²system for prefabricated concrete Part no
4. Parts lists 4.3. Generating a legend To generate a legend with the circuit symbols used in the plan for the building, simply select Legend in the planning software and confirm by clicking on Next/Continue. The legend is now generated automatically and can be placed next to the layout. It can be generated in four different languages. (1) (1) refer to Chapter 4,6 31
4. Parts lists 4.4. Generating an order or enquiry To generate a parts list for the items that have been chosen, simply select Enquiry/ Order in the Planning Assistant and confirm by clicking on Next/Continue. An html file listing all planned items together with quantities, part numbers, product designations and product descriptions now opens automatically. Images of the products are also shown. This form can be generated in four different languages. (1) (1) refer to Chapter 4,6. 32
4. Parts lists 4.5. Generating a request for quotation To generate a parts list for the items that have been chosen, simply select Request for quotation in the Planning Assistant and confirm by clicking on Next/Continue. A window where you can now assign a name to the project to be quoted now opens. This information subsequently appears in the request for quotation. After the project has been named, an html file listing all planned products together with indication of quantities, product designations and product descriptions opens automatically. This form can be generated in four different languages. (1) (1) refer to Chapter 4,6. 33
4. Parts lists 4.6. Selecting the language It is possible to generate any of the lists in various languages. These include: German, English, French and Dutch / Flemish. Thus, a project originally planned in English can be converted into German. 34
5. Information area 5.1. Editing the letterhead The information area provides useful hints. The letterhead of the enquiry, order or request for quotation can be easily matched to the company s own layout. It is only necessary to fill out the appropriate fields and then specify the path to the location where the company logo is saved on the PC being used. Once these data have been entered, click on Save to save them; they can then be retrieved whenever needed for use on a list or form. 35
5. Information area 5.2. Instructions regarding fire protection A button for querying instructions regarding fire protection when installing housings for luminaires and loudspeakers offers assistance. 36
5. Information area 5.3. Instructions regarding installation Using the buttons Installation instructions - concrete structures and Instructions regarding installation housings, the latest technical brochures on Installation in concrete structures and Free space can be retrieved as pdf files. These contain helpful tips regarding electrical installations in concrete structures, examples of applications and explanations. 37
5. Information area 5.4. Checking the programme version In addition, the version of the planning software currently being used can be checked here. If an update is available, you can quickly determine the version you are using. 38
6. Explanations 6.1. Graphical symbols Type of product Distinguishing between multi-gang boxes used with on-site mixed concrete and prefabricated concreteproduction methods: Multi-gang box for on-site mixed oncrete. (Part no ) The mounting orientation is not indicated visually in the circuit symbol for on-site mixed concrete. (1) Part number Multi-gang box for prefabricated oncrete. (Part no ) Type of product To make it easier to distinguish between the two types, the circuit symbol contains an additional indication of the horizontal orientation when installed. Prefabricated concrete elements from factory production are always produced in a horizontal position. The additional marking in the circuit symbol makes it clear that this is a product for use in prefabricated concrete elements.(2) (1) Exception for installation housings for luminaires and loudspeakers; wall or ceiling installation is distinguished in a similar manner. Distinguishing between on-site mixed concrete and prefabricated concrete is achieved in a different way. (2) In addition to the products specifically developed for use in prefabricated concrete elements, all KAISER products for use with on-site mixed concrete can also be used in prefabricated concrete elements. Mounting orientation Part number 39
6. Explanations 6.1. Graphical symbols Distinguishing between HaloX products used in on-site mixed concrete and prefabricated concrete: Type of product HaloX-O housing configuration with transformer tunnel and 68 mm diameter front ring for use in on-site mixed concrete. (Part no and Part no ) Indication of the mounting orientation here identifies the product for use in a concrete ceiling. The concrete production method can be determined from the type of product; this type visually represents the HaloX-O housing. Mounting orientation HaloX-P housing with mineral fibreboard and transformer tunnel for use in prefabricated concrete. (Part no ) Here, too, the concrete production method can be determined from the type of product; this type visually represents the HaloX-P housing. Type of product Part number Mounting orientation Part number 40
6. Explanations 6.1. Graphical symbols Distinguishing between KompaX products used in on-site mixed concrete and prefabricated concrete: KompaX 1 housing configuration with 50 mm intermediate frame and 240 mm diameter front ring for use in on-site mixed concrete. (Part nos , and ) Type of product Indication of the mounting orientation here identifies the product for use in a concrete ceiling. The concrete production method can be determined from the type of product; this type visually represents the KompaX 1 housing. Mounting orientation Part number KompaX 1 housing with mounting ring, 50 mm intermediate frame and 240 mm diameter front ring for use in prefabricated concrete. (Part nos , and ) Type of product Here, too, the concrete production method can be determined from the type of product; this type visually represents the KompaX 1 housing.with mounting ring. Mounting orientation Part number 41
6. Explanations 6.2. Installation in ceilings and walls Housing from the HaloX-O and KompaX 3 products groups can be used in both ceilings and walls. This is also indicated differently in the circuit symbol. If the mounting orientation is identified as horizontal when installed, the circuit symbol indicates a product for use in a concrete ceiling. If the mounting orientation is identified as vertical when installed, the circuit symbol indicates a product for use in a concrete wall. The products specified here are the same; they differ only with regard to installation HaloX-O When the KompaX 3 is installed in a wall, an installation kit for wall installation is always listed automatically, since the pressure of the concrete when installing the product in a wall is considerably greater than that in a concrete ceiling. KompaX 3 Mounting orientation horizontal Mounting orientation vertical Mounting orientation horizontal Mounting orientation vertical 42
