1 Job Description Title: Adopt A Social Worker Coordinator Classification: Non-exempt (ladder 13-15) Supervises: Program Volunteers Reports to: CEO Mission Approved May 31, 2005 Covenant to Care for Children mobilizes and channels the generosity of caring and faithful people to advocate for, mentor and provide direct assistance to Connecticut s children and youth who are neglected, abused or at-risk. Vision Approved September 27, 2005 Covenant to Care for Children works to create a future where all Connecticut children have caring families and safe places to live and all caring and faithful people demonstrate their own personal commitment to the welfare of children. Program Faith-based or community organizations agree to a covenant in which they partner with a particular social worker(s) to, as far as is possible, provide for the necessary and special items needed for all of the children in that social worker s caseload. This augments the provisions of the State, often assuring greater stability in the life of a child. Other States have successfully copied this distinctive and preventative model but ours remains the most comprehensive and successful. Focus is on abused and neglected children as the primary target for CCC programs. Families, organizations, and communities of faith are the primary vehicles through which we serve children s needs. Community groups, secular schools, and individuals are the secondary vehicles with which we serve children. Job Summary The Adopt a Social (AASW) Regional Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operation, maintenance and expansion of the AASW program. This position works professionally and collaboratively with other staff, community professionals in child
2 welfare, including the Department of Children and Families, and other disciplines, as well as clergy and lay persons in faith-based and community organizations. Essential Functions Relationship Recruit faith-based and community based organizations (FBOs) to participate in the AASW program. This requires working with those already in relationship with CCC as well as reaching out to FBOs who are not yet connected with CCC Target specific non-christian and non-protestant faith traditions to expand the diversity of participation in the AASW Program Numeric goals and targets are submitted for approval in July of each year by individual AASW Coordinators Insure AASW representation through current covenants in all geographic sectors and by all faiths in the State of Connecticut Build and maintain relationships with FBOs Data for matches are current and changes are submitted for recording at least bimonthly 80% of active covenants are reporting Children s stories are shared frequently with FBOs Each FBO provides and/or receives a program impact story at least once a year Contribute stories and information to contacted marketing/writer consultant One volunteer recognition project per year Work with community agencies and regional offices of DCF and other agencies serving abused, neglected or impoverished children to identify appropriate social workers who are interested in being matched through the AASW program, provide information and coaching. Training Recruited FBO volunteers and social workers are trained in the AASW and other CCC programs prior to participating in the AASW program. Trainings are held in each AASW region, reflecting knowledge of partner FBOs, DCF and related agencies social workers, children s needs issues, and the AASW Handbook. Three training events are held for social workers and liaisons annually in each CCC region +30% attendance at volunteer meetings
3 Clear & concise materials are distributed Coordinator seeks FBO input and provides his/her own input to development of collateral program materials All FBOs have current materials to distribute Program activity is focused on children s basic and immediate needs Satisfaction surveys offered to social workers, collected and subject to statistical review on an annual basis every March. Goals Based on the assumption of 60 covenant relationships per coordinator as being the maximum number of manageable relationships Team Membership Staff is required to participate in fundraisers, outreach and other public events as requested. There is an overall expectation that all staff members pitch in and help their peers regardless of program, and those members of the same program share responsibilities across regions to assure the overall success of their peers, the organization and most importantly the children we serve. Qualifications: Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with social workers, community members and fellow employees Sales experience is a plus Child Protective Services experience is a plus Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work with diverse constituencies Sensitivity to and acceptance of all faith traditions Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong working knowledge of MS Office Comfort and knowledge in working with databases Must be able and willing to travel within the state of Connecticut. Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license issued from the state in which employee resides. Evidence of this coverage, in the form of a certificate of automobile insurance, must be provided at hire and annually thereafter. A thorough background check resulting in a clean record is an absolute requirement (paid for by CCC) A minimum of a BA or equivalent education
