1 AUSTRALIA Newspapers Australia & New Zealand Media Landscape Key Media Major metropolitan newspapers, combined with their online presence, are still major players in the media landscape. Two main conglomerates publish most major newspapers across Australia; Fairfax and News Limited. Both newspapers are building their online travel components to increase the interactivity and incorporate more content including blogs, video, Q&A sections and links to online booking systems. Fairfax Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun Herald o Sydney Metro Daily o Audience: SMH is a broadsheet newspaper and typically more white colour than Daily Telegraph. o Circulation: 212,700 (Mon Fri) 359,000 (Sun) o Readership: 853,000 (Mon Fri) 1,116,000 (Sun) o Website: The Age o Melbourne equivalent of the Sydney Morning Herald o Audience: The Age aims to attract an influential and discerning audience o Circulation: 197,000 (Mon Fri) 294,000 (Sat) o Readership: 700,000 (Mon Fri) 955,000 (Sat) o Website: The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald share a travel section called Traveller. On free to air television there is only one dedicated travel television program Getaway on the Nine Network. This attracts around 2 million viewers in Austalia and 10 million viewers worldwide. It is now in its 17 th year of production and airs weekly during prime time at 7:30pm on Thursdays. Advertisers pay around AU$39,000 (approx US$34,500) for a 30 second advert nationally during Getaway. An international feature story typically runs 6 8 minutes.
