Classroom TEFL Course A two day course focusing on the practical elements of teaching with special emphasis on teaching Young Learners. This can be taken as an introductory TEFL course, to complement your online training or to get more understanding of teaching younger students. As a newly qualified TEFL teacher you will be very likely to teach young learners at some stage, and it s a growth area (from kindergarten to age 18), so our course is specifically designed to teach this age group. 4 What is TEFL? Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) is your passport to an exciting adventure abroad. English is the unofficial language of the world. It opens doors in terms of business, popular culture and international exchange, and the need to learn it as a second language is huge. Teachers are in high demand in countries where English is not the native language, and each year thousands of newly qualified TEFL teachers jet off for rewarding careers overseas and you could be one of them. 6 CHINA Whether you love the food or want to learn T ai Chi, China is a fantastic country to teach English. Most positions are available in the western coastal area, Shanghai and Beijing. Benefits vary depending on the school. Sometimes health insurance is paid for by the employer while others may offer a pre-determined amount to cover any health costs. The school will also often help complete the visa requirements on arrival. China has a high demand for TEFL teachers, but a top-level certification will help you get the better jobs with better pay. With the high demand for English and a shortage of native-speaking teachers, South Korea is a EFL teacher s paradise. Teaching opportunities exist in both state schools and private language institutions. The high wages and the lower cost of living make teaching in South Korea a great way to save money. 10 INDONESIA Opportunities for adventure are as sweeping as Indonesia s more than 17,000 islands. Some schools do reimburse airfares and visa costs at the completion of a contract, many offer medical insurance, and most provide varying levels of accommodation assistance. Regulations on work permits are rigid, however, established language schools will usually apply for a visa on your behalf.
