4 Vocational Education & Training Learning and education are instruments with which we not only help ourselves to get ahead but with which we can help society as a whole to continue to develop. Mag. Othmar Friedl Managing Director BFI OÖ and BBRZ GROUP Sound, on-going education and continuous training form the basis of each person s professional life. Which is why one of our clear-cut objectives is to be the contact for people who need us regardless of their age, level of education or national background. Dr. Christoph Jungwirth Managing Director BFI OÖ... better opportunities in life! BFI OÖ is an Upper Austrian vocational training institution that meets the new requirements of labor in the 21st century. It has become a market leader in all forms of re-entry into the job market, second-chance education and vocational qualification in health, social and other service jobs. An integrated spectrum of education and training covering all qualification levels - including university degrees - for both professional and occupational applications affords a significant edge to both single participants in training courses or seminars and to organizations, companies or special interest groups. Vocational Training offers More than 8000 opportunities in 22 communities at 30 locations in Upper Austria with offers for the most diverse target groups: Private customers Second chance education. Study at BFI (as a correspondence degree course of study at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg) Health, Services and Social affairs, EDP and IT Social competence/leadership Languages Engineering/Traffic/Logistics The economy & management Customized company training sessions Job market policy training and education Project initiatives for integration & empowerment Academies in the social and health fields Metal Working Centers The Metal Working Centers at BFI Upper Austria were founded on the occasion of the ever increasing skilled worker shortage in the metal industry. The participants of both genders are assigned to the centers by the Austrian Job Center. Currently courses are being offered in the skilled trades of tool and die machinist, tool machinist and metal treatment engineering. The modular structure of the training means assignment is possible at any time and this guarantees optimal availability of qualified personnel. Even during the 18-month training, the participants gain contact to companies through various internships. Currently there are metal working centers in Attnang-Puchheim, Braunau, Gmunden, Gunskirchen and Steyr. Due to the large share of migrants the Metal Working Centers at BFI have developed into a driving force in integration in the region. Production Schools The target group of these production schools are youths and young adults between 15 and 25 years who to date have not have any positive experience finding either employment or a training position. In these production schools the participants are able to rediscover that there is positive access to training, education and work. First and foremost, the goal is for young people to learn to accept the structures of regular employment. The BFI Upper Austria currently has six production schools in Gmunden, Leonding, Mattighofen, Ried im Innkreis, Steyr and Wels. The institutions are funded by the Province of Upper Austria, the Upper Austrian Job Center and the communities in which each of the institutions are located. 5 Making a Professional out of You. The Training Center ABZ (Ausbildungszentrum Braunau Ges.m.b.H) is a collective institution of education in cooperation with the BFI Upper Austria and the Austria Metall Aktiengesellschaft (AMAG), offering apprenticeship training in a modular program and training and development for skilled workers in the region. The goal of all of these measures at the ABZ is to provide people with better opportunities on the job market. This is an obligation that has been excellently fulfilled since In the meantime the ABZ is held in high esteem throughout the Innviertel region in matters of training and development. More than 300 skilled workers have already completed training for the AMAG and the Borbet Austria alone. In addition to that, 150 apprentices have been trained in such renowned companies as KTM, FCI, Miele, Beinkofer or Alutech for work in the fields of electrical or metal engineering. Dipl.-Ing. Christoph Zelenka Managing Director ABZ Braunau Extended vocational training and expert seminars for companies are also an integral part of the range of services offered. Companies have come to appreciate the flexibility and professional preparation of the courses. The ABZ does not offer standardized courses that might only coincidentally meet the requirements of the training necessary, but provides customized training, taking all prior knowledge into consideration. This intensive contact to industry, the further education of training staff and professional events at ABZ guarantee lasting topicality of the training contents offered. Training offers: metal treatment engineers technicians for machine tools general welders mechatronic technicians production engineers electrical installation engineers foundry mechanics cutting machine technicians draftsmen electrical technicians materials testers tool construction technicians Ausbildungszentrum Braunau 5280 Braunau/Inn Industriezeile 50 Tel.: Fax: office@abz-braunau.at Page 8 Page 9

6 School for Professions in Social Care in Steyr Tending to and caring for the elderly is becoming an increasingly important task for our society. Since its establishment in 1991, the School for Social Care (SOB) has been offering the quality training necessary for this task in the Steyr Region. The SOB in Steyr is funded by a private supporting association and is associated with the School of Commercial Professions there. In the autumn of 2009 the supporting association of the SOB was assumed by the BFI Upper Austria. The school offers educational training for specialized social workers and qualified social workers focusing on social work with the elderly. Geared towards the job market, these courses are conducted as extra occupational courses or as full time study. Rita Frauenhuber Chairwoman of the Board School for Professions in Social Care The full time study, lasting 24 months, primarily addresses young people who have just finished general schooling. Those people who have decided to pursue a social profession at a later time in their lives have the possibility of attending the course as an extra occupational program, which in itself is in line with the concept of life-long learning. 7 The Cambridge Institute Being able to speak English is a skill that we just cannot imagine not being a part of our daily lives. A working knowledge of the English is something that today s working world assumes and a skill that has also become quite important in our private lives when traveling, searching the Internet and the like. The Cambridge Institute is the first language institute in Linz that specializes in teaching English only. The Cambridge Institute in Linz stands out as an individualized, timeindependent and sustainable place of learning. A specialized assessment process determines the language proficiency level of each student. There are 21 levels, ensuring that each student can be taught at the level that best suits him or her. There is no time lost trying to find out where someone belongs; students are in the right small groups from the very beginning. The courses at the Cambridge Institute are set up to enable students to never miss a lesson, meaning they will always reach their learning target optimally. Mag. Martin Schmidhuber Head of the Institute The courses offered range from an 18-step basic course system that guarantees participants the highest degree of flexibility possible to courses for language certificates accepted worldwide, such as the diplomas from Cambridge University. The entire spectrum is found here: from introductory courses to the highest levels of proficiency in the European Framework of Reference for Languages. The Dolphin System is an internationally tested combination of computerbased learning and teaching units conducted solely with teachers whose mother tongue is English. This guarantees sustainable language learning success on the highest level. In addition to that, learning sessions that are individual, flexible and planned according to the time available to the student can be ensured. In January 2013 BFI OÖ and another partner took over operations at the Cambridge Institute Linz and have been offering both private customers and companies the possibility of expanding their English language skills in a flexible, individual and sustainable way.
