For information about the Public Access Corridors and Free Access Areas, press 2. For information about Closures, press 3. For information about the DNR Industrial Fire Precaution Level, press 4.
1. Rules and Regulations: (System Mail Box #1048) Access is allowed 7 days per week from 1 ½ hours before official sunrise to 1 ½ hours after official sunset. Overnight camping is not allowed except for motorized permit and lease holders. Smoking is not allowed outside of vehicles. Fireworks of any kind are prohibited. Campfires are not allowed except for motorized permit and lease holders outside of fire season. Fire season is April 15 th to October 15 th but may be extended if there are dry conditions. No firewood cutting or removal is allowed except motorized permit and lease holders may remove up to 2 cords of firewood. It is extremely important that you obey all signs and do not enter active work sites. Illegal drug and alcohol use is strictly forbidden. The maximum speed limit is 35 mph on mainline roads, less on spur roads and always subject to driving and weather conditions. Headlights must be turned on and seatbelts worn at all times. Please remember to stay to the right side of the road and yield to logging traffic. No forest product removal is allowed except berry and mushroom picking for personal consumption. Rockhounding, digging, gold panning, or removal of any rocks or minerals is prohibited. No disturbing any cultural artifacts. Motorized vehicles are required to be licensed, street legal and have a properly functioning exhaust system. Vehicles must stay on roads. No ATVs, ORVs, side x sides or motorcycles are allowed (even if street legal). Vehicles blocking gates or roads will be towed at owner s expense. Gates are to be left as found open or closed. Practice safe use of firearm and archery equipment. No target and skeet shooting or exploding targets are allowed. Trapping is not allowed. Do not harm trees in any way. Do not place any nails, screws, or other metal objects in trees. If you damage trees, you will have to pay three times the value as compensation. No littering, dumping or burying of garbage is permitted. Pack it in and pack it out. We thank you for your cooperation and ask that illegal activities you witness be reported to local law enforcement. Please report forest fires to the Department of Natural Resources at Forestry and harvesting operations move frequently within the tree farm, so access opportunities often change. Because of this, please call the hotline or read the hotline script at before you travel to the tree farm.
2. Public Access Corridors and Free Areas: (System Mail Box #1049) Public Access Corridors are maintained to provide access to State land and fisheries. These corridors generally remain open for motorized access unless closed for extreme fire danger or other operational concerns. These corridors do not require a recreational access permit. Details of the corridors are: The 4100 Road Public Access Corridor begins at the South Toutle Road & 4100 Road junction and continues eastward along the 4100 Road and ends at the bridge where the 4100 Road crosses the South Fork Toutle River. This corridor also includes the 4200, 2710 and 4640 Roads which access State land between the North Fork Toutle River & the South Fork Toutle River. The 1900 Road Public Access Corridor begins at the South Toutle Road & 1900 Road junction and continues northward along the 1900 Road; the 1900 Road crosses the bridge over the North Fork Toutle River, continues along the 1901 Road, continues down the 508 Road and ends at the Green River Fish Hatchery. The 3100 Road Public Access Corridor begins at the 3100 Road off of SR504 (between mile posts 30 and 31) and continues southward to the North Fork Toutle River. The 8050 Road Public Access Corridor begins at the US Forest Service 54 Road & 8050 Road junction and accesses State land south and east of the Lewis River s Yale Reservoir. Public access to the Ryderwood area of the St. Helens Tree Farm is controlled by other landowners. Weyerhaeuser manages access to these areas in cooperation with the public access policies of those landowners. Please contact them for information on access to their ownership. This area does not require a recreational access permit. Before accessing these areas you must listen to the rules and regulations portion of this hotline.
3. Closures: (System Mail Box #1050) Currently, there are no closures.
4. DNR Industrial Fire Precaution Level: (System Mail Box #1051) Permit and lease access areas will not be restricted unless the DNR Industrial Fire Precaution Level reaches a level 4 in that particular shutdown zone. Level 4 means general shutdown (all operations are prohibited). The DNR website at is updated daily with these levels.
Recreational Maps: (Option 3) (System Mail Box #1047) The current recreational map of the St. Helens Tree Farm is available for purchase at the following locations: Arnold Map Service in Vancouver, Bob s Sporting Goods in Longview, Drew s Grocery in Toutle, Link s Four Corners General Store in Castle Rock and Metsker Maps in Seattle.
