1 Job Title: Reporting to: Hours of Work: Work Base: Development and Communications Assistant Development and Communications Director 30 per week Swindon Carers Centre, Sanford Street, Swindon Job Purpose: To support the Senior Leadership team with effective communications and minute taking. To support the delivery of Swindon Carers Centre s Development, PR, Communications and Fundraising Strategy (including website, social media, events, fundraising). To coordinate the production of the quarterly newsletter and to keep publicity and promotional material up to date and relevant. To support the organisation and delivery of key events to promote Carers issues. Key Responsibilities 1. To support the Senior Leadership team with effective communications To provide communications support and minute taking at Senior Leadership/Service Delivery and Event Planning meetings. To provide support to the Senior Leadership team with ad-hoc tasks. To work collaboratively with other members of the administration team, including volunteers, to promote good communication and a well co-ordinated response to the administrative support needs of the Centre, Trustees and Senior Leadership Team. 2. Website Management Supporting the Development and Communications Director to manage the centre s website and contribute to its ongoing development to ensure its optimal use as a communications tool. To liaise with staff and volunteers to source topical and relevant content. To research other relevant websites/media sources for items/articles for possible copy for social media and/or website. To police and review the website content on a regular basis.

2 To ensure all enquiries from carers and other browsers originating from the website are dealt with by the Admin team in a timely and appropriate manner. To collaborate with SCC s IT officer in relationship to IT provision for website to ensure quality and service are maintained to the agreed standard. Support the Development and Communications Director to oversee analysis of website and social media statistics and user feedback. Support the Development and Communications Director to introduce further development of digital communications channels. 3. Newsletter, Publicity and Service Promotion To support the Development and Communications Director with co-ordinating quarterly production of Caring Matters : This will include sourcing copy, gathering content and liaising with proof-readers, designers and printers and ensuring that all materials are signed-off appropriately, liaising with admin/volunteers for mail out. With the Development and Communications Director, review and produce a range of publicity material to ensure a consistent look to the promotion of Swindon Carers Centre and its services. To ensure current promotional material is available for download on the Centre s website. To regularly review and evaluate all Organisational printed material to ensure accuracy, consistency and relevance. To regularly monitor and update the Centre s social media channels. To assist the Chief Executive and Development and Communications Director in managing media enquiries, writing news releases, producing advertising, media coverage and publications that promote the Centre s work. To support the Development and Communications Director with the production of a range of written materials including briefings, presentations, service promotion materials, case studies and articles. 4. Events and Key Campaigns To contribute to promotion of Swindon Carers Centre activities and campaigns. To assist the Events Planning Team in coordinating/organising the delivery of key events such as AGM, Carer Week events and Carers Rights day in liaison with the Chief Executive and Development and Communications Director as appropriate. To ensure that the publicity and promotional materials required for outreach and fundraising events, and Carers Week and Carers Rights Day, are branded, current and available. To oversee the SCC calendar of fundraising events. To monitor use of collection tins and record receipts and collections.

Relationships To support the Chief Executive and Development and Communications Director with the marketing of Swindon Carers Centre, donor development, income generation and fundraising campaigns. 6. Additional duties Team working is essential to the smooth running of the organisation. It is the nature of the work that at times, responsibilities and tasks may be unpredictable and varies. Where the occasion arises, staff are expected to work in a flexible way. Any additional duties will normally be compatible with regular working. If the additional responsibility or task becomes a regular or frequent part of the employee s activities, it will be included in the job description in consultation with the employee. All staff are expected to prepare and participate in regular supervision sessions and annual appraisal process as part of their performance management, workload and to support further personal development and training opportunities. Special Conditions Flexible working hours including some evening and weekend work may be required.
