The world of events is a fast growing industry, and South Africa is a sought after destination for many international organisations whether it is to do business, exhibit their products, or get involved in sport events. Just think of the hype around the 2010 Soccer World Cup! Private companies, large event companies, conference venues, sport stadiums and hotels need coordinators to help them plan and organise their events. Are you keen to get involved? Then read on! Programme Type The Events Coordination programme is a Provider Programme. INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes: National Qualifications are credit bearing qualifications registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body. Provider Programmes are unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Agent Programmes are programmes and qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate). 3 Events Coordination Career Opportunities The knowledge and skills you gain will open doors to large event companies or specific venues where you could work as an events coordinator. You could also consider starting your own business, assisting corporate companies in team building exercises, year-end functions, training courses or conference planning. If you are currently employed in one of the following positions: secretarial, personal assistant or human resources, this course will greatly assist you when planning those corporate functions. Entrance Requirements We strongly recommend that you have an English language skill in reading and writing equivalent to Grade 10/(Std 8.) Course Content You will be introduced to the different role players and learn what the contribution of each one is before you look at the planning and organisation of an event. Once all the basics have been covered, you will also be exposed to the coordination of a number of specific events. Introduction to the world of events The event role players Event planning Organising accounting and financial management Event sponsorship Event programming Risk management Event management and communication Catering management Meeting management Organising a carnival, sports event management, exhibition management or political event management

4 Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 12 months. Assessment You are required to hand in 2 written assessments. Award On successful completion you will receive your INTEC Certificate in Events Coordination. Your Textbook Event Management Textbook Folder plus pen* *INTEC reserves the right to change kit items.
