The successful candidate will be requested to apply for Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, although a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to obtaining the position. 1.1 NAME OF POST HOLDER: VACANCY 1.2 Post Title: Assistant Head Teacher Curriculum & EYFS/ KS1 1.3 Reporting to: Head teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and Governing Body 1.4 Responsible for: Middle Leaders and Teaching staff 1.5 Liaising with: Head/Leadership Team, teaching staff, other relevant staff with cross- school responsibilities, relevant support staff, LEA representatives, external agencies and parents. 1.6 Working Time: Full time as specified within the STPCD. 1.7 Salary/Grade: ISR L5-9 41,343-45, Job description last updated: March 2014 Job Purpose The range of duties and responsibilities for ASSISTANT HEAD TEACHERS as set out in the current School Teachers Pay & Conditions Document. The post requires you to teach children in the age ranges 4-11 years and by example, provide an outstanding professional model of the curriculum or parts of the curriculum as required by the Head Teacher. The Assistant Head Teacher should be aware of national developments and local initiatives and be able to demonstrate these practically and discuss their implementation with the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, staff, governors, parents and others, where necessary. Be responsible for the administrative and managerial duties in collaboration with the Head Teacher as designated. KEY MANAGERIAL TASKS AND PROFESSIONAL DUTIES; Purpose: To assist the Headteacher in managing and leading the school as a member of the Strategic Team (HT, DHT, AHT for Inclusion & AHT for Curriculum & EYFS/ KS1) To lead the development of an innovative, creative curriculum that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and Early Learning Goals and also meets the needs of children. To be accountable for the standards in EYFS & Key Stage 1 alongside the Phase Leaders. To present a clear and accurate account of pupil performance in areas for which you are responsible e.g. Curriculum, EYFS & Key Stage 1 to audiences including governors, the LA, OFSTED and others. 2 Responsible to: The Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Governing Body and the Local Authority. General Duties: To carry out all duties of a school teacher as set out in the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions document, the Professional Teachers Standards and school policies. Key responsibilities and duties relating to EYFS/ Key Stage 1: To line manage the Phase leaders with responsibility for EYFS & Key Stage 1 classes To set high expectations and promote high standards of pastoral, social and educational development from the Phase Leaders with responsibility across EYFS & Key Stage 1 To lead, co- ordinate and manage effective learning and teaching across the EYFS & Key Stage 1. To coach and mentor members of EYFS & Key Stage 1, as appropriate, including planning support, modelling lessons, team- teaching etc To lead in Performance Management objective setting and review meetings of EYFS & Key Stage 1 staff To have a significant impact on the educational progress of pupils across EYFS & Key Stage 1 To monitor and review areas for development across EYFS & Key Stage 1 To ensure that creative and stimulating learning takes place across EYFS & Key Stage 1. Key responsibilities and duties of Curriculum Innovation To take a lead role in formulating and regularly reviewing the school aims and objectives for agreed core areas reviewing the school policies annually and annual action plan. To co- ordinate the faculty teams in their development and review of the long term coverage of subjects to ensure the full coverage in each key phase including the Early Learning Goals and National Curriculum. At all times ensuring they all have regular and appropriate assessment opportunities. To ensure that the learning and teaching provided by different faculties and teaching teams form a co- ordinated, coherent curriculum entitlement for individuals To ensure the subject leaders have developed and reviewed schemes of work to support medium term planning. To ensure that the curriculum area(s) reflect Maths and English, cross- curricular concerns such as Multicultural issues, equal opportunities, moral, citizenship, personal and social education. Promoting the integration of information technology curriculum in areas and use of ICT in assessment. To work alongside the Faculty teams to devising teaching and learning activities appropriate to the full ability range. To fostering curriculum continuity, consistency, balance, match and progression. To promote stimulating cross curriculum approaches. To organising whole school themes/activities. To lead the development of SMSC and assemblies in line with the ethos and values of the school and National policies Contributing to the formulation of the School Development Plan, School Prospectus and SEF. This job description will be reviewed annually in consultation with the Head Teacher and Governors according to the changing needs of the school as outlined in the School Improvement Plan. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: Assistant Head Teacher Part 1: You are required to carry out the duties of a School Teacher as set out in the current School Teacher s Pay and Conditions Document: Conditions of Employment of Teachers other than Head Teachers. Part 2: Taken from the School Teachers Pay & Conditions Document 2011 Part 10 - CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OF DEPUTY HEAD TEACHERS AND ASSISTANT HEAD TEACHERS Professional duties A person appointed as an Deputy or Assistant Head Teacher in a school, in addition to carrying out the professional duties of a teacher other than a head teacher (as described in Part 12) including those duties particularly assigned by the head teacher, must: Play a major role under the overall direction of the Head Teacher by: a) Formulating the aims and objectives of the school b) Establishing the policies through which they will be achieved c) Managing staff and resources to that end; and d) Monitoring the progress towards their achievement. Undertake any professional duties of the head teacher reasonably delegated by the head teacher. If the Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher are absent from school the Assistant Head Teacher must undertake their professional duties to the extent required by the Head Teacher or relevant body, or in the case of a foundation, voluntary aided or foundation special school, the governing body. TERMS AND CONDITIONS In addition to those detailed in the appropriate section relating to Deputy Head Teachers, the post holder is required to carry out all general, particular and professional duties as set out in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions of Employment Document Also there may be requirements to attend Governors Meetings and/or Review days which may take place on a Saturday during term time. These duties must be carried out in accordance with National Curriculum requirements, the aims of the school, school policies and any policies of the Governing Body.
