2 What is My Media Mall? (Hereafter shortened to Media Mall ) A third-party subscription website (operated by Overdrive Digital Library Reserve), available to library cardholders, offering downloadable e-books, audiobooks, and videos. Available free to library cardholders in the Lincoln Trail Libraries System.

4 How does Media Mall work? 1. Download and install free software on your computer or cell phone. 2. Possibly install a security upgrade if using Windows. 3. Browse the Media Mall website, select titles, and download them to your computer or cell phone. 4. For titles downloaded to your computer, either listen to/watch them directly on your computer or transfer them to a portable device. 5. For titles downloaded to your cell phone, listen to/watch them directly on the phone.

7 Audiobook & Video Formats Media Mall titles come in three formats: MP3 Audiobooks (1,035 titles) WMA (Window Media Audio) Audiobooks (5,000 titles) WMA Videos (87 titles) (title count as of 2/15/11) To use any of the above, you must install OverDrive Media Console on your computer or mobile device. It is available for: Android v1.5 (or newer) BlackBerry v4.5 (or newer) ios v4 (or newer) Mac OS v (or newer) Windows 98 SE (or newer) Windows Mobile 5 and 6

9 Where do I find OverDrive Media It s available on the Media Mall homepage, in the lower left corner (under Digital Software ). Console?

10 Security Upgrade for Windows OverDrive Media Console for Windows requires a security upgrade. OverDrive Media Console for Windows utilizes Windows Media Player 9 Series (or newer) to play DRM-protected files. The first time that Windows Media Player attempts to open a DRM-protected file, it will alert you that a security upgrade must be performed before the file can be opened. The upgrade takes just a few moments. Only OverDrive Media Console for Windows requires a security upgrade. All other versions of OverDrive Media Console do not require security upgrades. OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks do not require the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade.

11 About Copy Protection Many Media Mall audio and video titles are copyprotected with DRM Digital Rights Management; you ll see this acronym occasionally when using Media Mall. Some publishers allow you to burn their audiobooks to CD; this option is indicated in the title s full record.

12 Finding Audiobooks and Videos Login to the My Media Mall site (via the Danville Public Library site mentioned above, or directly at Click Sign In, choose Lincoln Trail Libraries System from the alphabetical list of libraries, enter your full library card barcode number, and enter your PIN (usually the last four digits of your phone number, unless you have arranged otherwise). 13 Multiple ways to browse and search Browse by collection and format. Browse by children s or adult titles, fiction or nonfiction, or by genre. Search using the Quick Search box in the upper-left of the homepage, or use Advanced Search for more options

14 Advanced Search Compound searches can be used to limit by author, genre, year, etc. for example, to show all Stephen King audiobooks in WMA format. Unfortunately, there is no way to search both audiobook formats simultaneously; you must search MP3 and WMA separately.

15 Advanced Search (cont.) Many audiobooks will be checked out at any given time. To limit your searches to show only items that are checked in, click the Only show titles with copies available box at the bottom of the screen. Demo

16 Always Available Audiobooks A small number of Audiobooks allow for unlimited simultaneous use, i.e. everyone may borrow these titles at the same time. As of 2/16/11, there are 100 Always Available audiobooks out of 6,350 total audiobooks in the Media Mall collection.

17 Checking Out and Downloading When you find a title you're interested in, add it to the cart and check it out. Once you have checked out a title, a download page is displayed. For audiobooks, you have the option of downloading individual parts or the entire book. Audios and Videos can take a long time to download, even with a broadband connection. For example, Carry on Jeeves, a relatively short (7-hour) audiobook, took 20 minutes to download with a T1 connection. Videos take even longer. Downloaded titles will be placed in a My Media folder inside your My Documents folder (on a Windows PC).

20 Media Mall Policies and Procedures How many titles can I have checked out at the same time? You can have up to 5 titles checked out at any given time. How many days do I get to keep titles I check out? 7 or 14 days for audiobooks; 7 days for videos. For audiobooks, you pick the loan period yourself. Can I return items early? No. Due to publisher licensing agreements, audiobooks and video cannot be returned early. They are automatically returned to the collection at the end of the lending period, at which time they cease to play on your computer/device.

21 Media Mall Policies and Procedures (cont.) Can I renew the items I have checked out? Titles cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again if they are available when the checkout period ends. What happens when I place a title on hold? A title you place on hold will be reserved for you to check out once it becomes available. When the title is available for you, we will you instructions on checking the item out. The item will be held for you for 3 days after we you that the title is available. How many items can I place on hold at the same time? You can place up to 7 titles on hold at a time. Demo

22 Media Mall Policies and Procedures (cont.) What is the OverDrive Advantage Program? The OverDrive Advantage Program allows a member library to purchase titles exclusively for its patrons. While most of the titles available at this site are available to patrons of all member libraries, titles purchased using the OverDrive Advantage Program are available exclusively to patrons of the library that purchased the titles.
