2 1. INTENSIVE COURSE This is our main course. It offers a high degree of flexibility: you can do as many weeks as you want and start at any point in the year, whatever your level. 20 h/week 1h = 55 Any number of weeks Start any Monday (every second Monday if you are a beginner) Monday to Friday: (including a 20-minute break) All levels Max 8 students per class (average 4-5) Minimum age 16 Start dates Students who already have some knowledge of Spanish may start an intensive course any Monday throughout the year (except public holidays). Don t miss out on swimming with some of the most amazing marine life on the planet. Working with a specialist diving school, we offer two courses: A. Diving for Beginners: a 3-day course leading to the PADI Open Water certificate for dives of up to 18 metres. B. Advanced Diving Course: a 3-day course that leads to the PADI certificate for dives of up to 30 metres. 3 days over any number of weeks All dives and other activities are programmed so as not to clash with the Spanish lessons taken in the mornings. Beginners: $645 Advanced: $530 (Scuba equipment and diving manual included) 1.3 Latin dancing Put on your dancing shoes and learn from some of the best Latin dance teachers around. Class activities are designed primarily to help students develop their communicative skills. Note All levels Students can take an optional BULATS test. For one-to-one business classes 2 hours/day (10 hrs/week): $300/wk For two students with the same level who want to study together 2 hours/day (10 hrs/week): $175/wk/person 1.6 Medical Spanish This course will help develop your Spanish skills, specifically for the medical line of work (doctors, nurses, care-workers etc.). Note Optional visits to a healthcare centre and contact with Spanish speaking doctors or nurses. For one-to-one medical Spanish 2 hours/day (10 hrs/week): $300/wk For two students with the same level who want to study together 2 hours/day (10 hrs/week): $175/wk/person 1.7 DELE exam preparation Get all the practice you need to take the highly prestigious and internationally recognised DELE exam, organised by the Instituto Cervantes. Note Students can take a DELE preparation course at any time of the year but the DELE exams themselves are only available on certain dates. Please note that IH Riviera Maya is a DELE exam centre, which means that students can take the exam in our school. Please contact us for more details. Private tuition If you want to go at your own pace, learn just what you need, and decide for yourself how intensive you want your programme to be, one-to-one classes are the best option. You can also combine private tuition with a group course. Course fee For one-to-one classes: For two students with the same level who want to study together: $30/hour $35/hour 3. Spanish for families Enjoy a great family holiday, and top it off with a Spanish course. We have courses for all ages and levels. Children aged 2 to 5: Childcare service provided by members of our staff. We use a play-based approach to introduce younger children to our language. The focus is on having fun while learning. Children aged 6 to 12 and teenagers up to 15: Private or semi-private (two students) Spanish courses tailored to their age and needs. Adults: Adult family members and those aged 16 and over may participate in the intensive group Spanish courses. Private or semi-private courses are another option. Note The whole family can take part in the afternoon and evening cultural activities we offer within the framework of our social programme. We also organise tours that are open to all family members (an extra fee applies for these tours). The number of hours contracted for the care of children must be sufficient to cover the time adults spend in class so that children are not left unattended at any time. 4. Online Spanish courses To get ready before coming to Mexico or continue your studies after returning home, we recommend one of our online courses. Each Net Languages course consists of around 120 hours of interactive study materials and can also include individual written and spoken tutorials with a qualified language instructor. If it is impossible to arrange arrival and departure times in accordance with these days, extra nights can normally be arranged subject to availability. 2. Shared rooms are for couples and friends travelling together (student residence, host families and apartments). 3. The high season in Playa del Carmen is from the 15th of December until immediately after the Easter holiday period, and from the beginning of July until the end of August. Prices for off-site apartments, hotels and hostels will vary accordingly. 4. Students who choose accommodation in an apartment or in our residence will be asked to sign a form which authorises the school to charge their credit card up to $200 to cover costs in the event of any damage to their accommodation. 5. Accommodation fees include 10% VAT. 7 Enrolment information Enrolment IH Riviera Maya is a joint-venture with IH Barcelona. Therefore, enrolments and payments of the deposit can be sent to either school. The deposit, which should accompany the enrolment, is US$230 and can be paid by credit card, bank transfer or cheque. Enrolments and payments can be made with complete security at our website: Alternatively, students can enroll by completing the course application form (enclosed) and sending a scanned copy to either school. Transfers in US$ can be made to our bank account in Mexico, which has the following number: (Swift code: BNMXMXMM, CLABE: ) and is held at the Banco Nacional de México, Sucursal 4615-Riviera Maya, Calle 10 Norte esquina Calle 12, Manzana 30, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Transfers should be made payable to Servicios Lingüísticos Riviera Maya S.C. Transfers in US$ can also be made to our bank account in Spain, which has the following IBAN number: ES , (Swift code: BSA BES BB) and is held at the Banco de Sabadell, Via Layetana 47, Barcelona, Spain. Transfers should be made payable to International House Barcelona S.L. Cheques in US$ should be made payable to Servicios Lingüísticos Riviera Maya S.C. or to International House Barcelona S.L. and sent to the corresponding school address in Playa del Carmen or Barcelona (see back page). Please note that any bank charges incurred on payment of the deposit will be added to the balance of the course fee. However, we do not charge commission on credit card payments. Payment The balance of fees is due on or before the first day of the course. Cancellations When a cancellation is received 10 days or more before the course is due to start, the deposit is refunded, less US$120 for expenses. For cancellations received with less than 10 days notice, the deposit is non-refundable. Once the course has started, the cost of the entire programme (course and accommodation) is non-refundable. Under exceptional circumstances, and at the discretion of the school director, a student s unused fees can be held on account for up to 12 months. In other words, the unused fees (not including the first week s course and accommodation fees, which are applied to the cancellation fee) can be used to study at any International House VIVA Group school within 12 months of the cancellation date. Please note: We recommend that all students take out course cancellation insurance to protect them in the event of unforeseeable incidents. Airport transfers There is frequent bus service from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen. However, we recommend that our students take advantage of our airport meeting and transfer service. Cancun Airport transfer fee (one way) One person: $80 Two or more people: $65 per person The prices quoted are for transfers between 8.00 and (arrival time at the airport). If the students need a transfer before 8.00 or after 18.00, these prices will be increased by 50%. Please note that we need the arrival information at least two working days before arrival. Insurance We strongly recommend students to take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance in their country of origin to cover any loss, sickness or accident which may occur during the course.
